<p>Tex, you’ve just brought back a ton of happy memories for me I worked on S Congress, and then later did my masters at UT, so have happy memories of the drag near campus. Is BBQ at Dripping Springs still a thing? Your mention of Lady Bird reminds me of the wildflower place East of town that she was involved in. My parents and I had a lovely afternoon there—but not at this time of year. Pretty sure it was springtime.</p>
<p>Pil, please report back after your trip

<p><div>Feel free to PM me if you have a specific question.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you end up staying near south Congress, you may try Continental Club for music (more "Texas" style music there which I would call more Rockabilly and Blues I guess). Broken Spoke is pure country with two steppin dance lessons most nights at 8 pm. And they do serve food - chicken fried steak is their specialty.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>We've had friends enjoy the Omni downtown if you want to be in a traditional hotel with usual amenities. Downtown is not far from South Congress. Speaking of S. Congress, parking can be a challenge but if you end up in a hotel there you can likely leave your car parked.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>The Capitol building is pretty impressive and worth seeing - esp. the "underground" part that doesn't feel like it's underground. The Lady Bird Lake hike and bike trail and Barton Springs are definitely worth checking out. Deep Eddy is kind of neat to see and you may want to have breakfast or lunch at The Magnolia Cafe on Lake Austin Blvd. near there (inexpensive). If you don't mind the crowd Stubb's BBQ is usually on people's list of places to go to eat and hear live music.</div><div><br /></div><div>Everyone has their favorites of course but if you like Mexican then you may want to try </p>
<p>Fonda San Miguel for dinner (make reservations or go on an off time) or if you get to the east of the south side, a very casual Curra's Grill was always dependable (I still make some of their sauces).<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I would steer clear of Sixth Street - and would not stay in a hotel near the area (personally) so I won't recommend the historic Driskell (very popular bus stop hangouts on that corner). Maybe I'm just getting old but it just never felt safe or very clean to me. I also would steer clear of the University area (as far as hotels I mean). <br /></div><div><br /></div>

<p>No advice, but just wishing you a great trip! Austin is on my list of places to go. Adriene from Yoga with Adriene lives there! Seems like such a cool city; I hope you'll share some photos and recommendations when you get back

<p>Antone’s, “the Home of the Blues” was cool when I lived there—in the early 90s! Barton Springs is the famous pool in the park that used to be (&amp; maybe still is) the center of SXSW, but I liked Deep Eddy better—more of a neighborhood feel, but big enough you won’t feel you’re intruding.

<p><div>We’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn by the river. &nbsp;The best part is the pool on the roof with the fabulous view.</div><div><br /></div><div><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn/hotels/us/en/austin/austl/hoteldetail">https://www.ihg.com/holidayinn.....oteldetail</a><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>

<p>I've stayed here a couple of times:</p>
<p><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.lonestarcourt.com/">https://www.lonestarcourt.com/</a></p>
<p>It's at the entrance to a lovely outdoor shopping mall.&nbsp; That will give you restaurant and shopping options when you don't have anything scheduled.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<p>Mr. Xtabay and I enjoy going to the Elephant Room, a jazz club in the 300 block of Congress (downstairs). &nbsp;It's nothing fancy, just good music and great people. &nbsp;The restaurant that's over it, Swift's Attic, is very good, and very popular. &nbsp;We also like Guero's on South Congress for Mexican food, and if you want the full honkytonk experience, hit the Broken Spoke on S. Lamar. &nbsp;You can dance the night away (or just drink cold beer and watch). &nbsp;Have fun!</p>

<p>Any suggestions for ‘must sees’ in Austin, TX? Where to stay? There is so much information on neighborhoods out there it is mind boggling. We wanted to head someplace warmer before winter hits us here and cheap round trip airfare to Austin made the decision for us.&nbsp;<div>The only thing we have planned is a show at the Moody Theater. Suggestions for other music venues? We’re pretty low key and don’t have to be doing something every moment.&nbsp;</div><div>Thanks!</div>
