Well thanks a lot Michelle and Christieanne for those helpful tips.
Surely, Christeanne. Will show you all what I came up with, I need your YAYs ofcourse before I take the tags off them. And I am going shopping today evening.
Oh Kiwichik, such nice words from you. Yes they are beautiful but they are quite heavy and are suitable for our larger than life marriages, pujas, family functions since these traditional wears tend to be heavy, sparkly and embroidered. So for other occasions like for friends birthday party, office parties, I need to have some dresses (and really beautiful ones) that are light on its works and also a little conservative for our society.
Thankyou again ladies. Hope I find some dresses suiting my needs. Off to shopping.

Do you need to wear modern clothing for dressy events - your traditional clothing is so gorgeous. Personally I would be looking for any and every opportunity to wear it.

But that's me and I see that Michelle and Christieanne have already given you some excellent advise.

I think Michelle offered great tips but of course I have a few thoughts.
Pants are an option but for dressy, maybe a midi length pencil shaped skirt (lace would be amazing if you could track one down) and a modest top but in a dressy fabric.

My thoughts:
Pencil skirt + long sleeve silk or lace blouse
Lace pencil skirt + a cashmere sweater for colder evenings
Maxi skirt + slinky, silky top and a shawl/pashmina wrap
pencil skirt + shimmery shell/tank and a tuxedo satin jacket

For shoes you could do a heel (maybe a flat if needed but I think you were heels?) and hose for sure. I wouldn't do a dark tight but that might work. I do see pictures of the HIp girls in the US wearing tights with everything in the winter.

Let us know what you come up with!

I don't feel I can tackle all your questions, but I will take a stab at some of them.
1. Are you saying you *don't want* to wear dresses and skirts, or that you just have to work at finding the more modest ones? If you're averse to skirt looks, then there's no reason whatsoever that you can't focus on finding a pair of dressy pants. Think nicely tailored, slimmer-fitting slacks in a satin, silk or velvet fabrication. Many opt for black in this scenario, and with such a highly-textured fabric you can't go wrong doing so. If you're after a skirt or dress, you're in luck - midi lengths are all the rage and should be easy to track down. Focus on finding one of those, again in a dressy fabric.
2. You can absolutely wear hose, but I would recommend sheer ones rather than opaque tights.
3. If you don't wear heels, opt for some dressy flats (perhaps in a patent or with some degree of sparkle). Personally I would opt for a metallic one for maximum versatility, but you can settle on the colour once you've nailed down the rest of your outfit. If you can spring for even a modest one-inch heel, however, that will help you out a little bit (particularly if you're wearing a midi skirt). Given your height and your preference for flats, I'm really starting to think dressy pants could be the way to go (perhaps paired with a lace or sequine-embellished blouse)?

Hope this helps a little.

Thankyou so much to Angie for this piece of advice. I needed some outfitl for that dressy occasions that may pop out asshe said but I have these problems. Hope you could solve them?

1. Wearing dresses especially that shows too much skin is a bit awkward in our very conservative society? Short dresses and showing skin is a taboo though teenagers today are ok with it. I am however 28.

2. Can I wear tights with dresses for dressy occasions too?

3. What kind of footwear with and without tights?

4. I am basically a jeans, tees girl with my style mantra of being cute and casual rather than hot or sexy? So what kind of dresses or outfits should I buy and what kind of footwear? I don't wear heels

5. I am petite, 5 ft 2 inches, weigh 46 kgs and is a slim petite somewhat hourglass shape.

Suggestions would help me build my this part of the wardrobe. Pictures would really help me in this case and if more information needed regarding my body size or taste, do let me know.

Thankyou so much in advance!!!
