He's sent me for a smog check now, still not taking my car or money. I have to come back another day for a tune up and now also to get my trunk door open. I think he just doesn't want to write up a bill - not computerised and he takes like an hour to do the form. If this keeps up, gonna have to go to the smarmy guys up the street. Something like that happened to me. My car was my first big purchase and my chance to build credit. I could have just bought it. But I financed part of it. I agreed to some sort of coating on the upholstery... and they lumped that in with the loan part without asking. That totally irritated me. I guess they made more money off me that way? But that's the reason I don't go to the dealer here - they won't speak to you and charge $185 just for coming in - or the guys up the street, who'll want to replace one of the doors because the trim's broken. I set some deadlines in my head. Like, my car didn't pass smog check because the engine light came on... which it does in crazy weather like we're having... so while my registration is paid, I don't have stickers. I wanted that done today. And my mechanic is so, I don't know, unwilling to take money for no reason. He won't pretend to work on it like the dealer would. And his process is so Byzantine. He switched off the light and I'm to drive around a few days and then take it back. And then I'm supposed to drive around another few days before retest, after he does whatever he does.
