It's a tough length to figure! Plus, I found many types hang up my calf if they're tapered enough or rolled too thickly, and are too schtumpy-wide if they don't cling. I have kind of ended up where Joy is--almost bermudas and closer to long shorts, ( I know some hate those) or rolled just a bit above the ankle. Still is tricky.

Agreeing with Suz, and add to her list, the width of the pants as well. Capri's are not easy!

As Suz said, there are lots of factors to consider. I only wear those that end on the knee cap or just above the ankle bone. Anything else is stumpifying on me. Even the ankle length is new to me and only after seeing the length with ankle straps in a color that can visually continue the leg line. On others I think some types of heels also work. The worst on amost anyone are Capri pants that are wide at the bottom, fitted at the top and anything ending on the calf. My legs are slim and fairly long for my height.
You might try rolling to different spots and studying the looks. Taking photos is a big help. You may also need to think whether or not you care if the look is flattering or maybe just flattering enough.

Angie has some helpful blog posts about this.

Sadly, I think you're just going to have to bite the bullet and try on -- or perhaps accept the idea of cutoffs/ rolls. Because the sweet spot is going to depend a lot on your proportions, your body type, how you plan to wear them, and the footwear you choose.

I think they look most flattering when they hit where your calf tapers. I also think height and leg length play a role. Maybe vertical body proportion would be a better way to state it. I am tall but my legs are proportionally short so I wear my cropped pants and capri's only a few inches above my ankles or my legs look very short.

I am looking toward a spring wardrobe. Something on my list is a pair of jean capris. I've ordered a few and returned them all. Trying to figure out what look exactly I am going for and the fit I need to look for, I thought I would ask here. Which length works best and why? I think #4, the wallflower capris are the most flattering. I'm still trying to puzzle out why and how to find that "sweet spot" on my own calves. I think maybe because they right where the calf starts to taper in again?
Also, to me the two Levi's are a little truncating. But I can't quite put my finger on why. Because they end on the widest part of the calf? (The white ones seem to be more flattering.) #1, the bandalino capris are almost working. Perhaps because they end right where the calf is beginning to widen so you can still see the curve? Also, they are tapered in a little at the calf and don't widen (which is a problem I have had when trying on a few pairs).
If you have any thoughts or suggestions or something I might have missed, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to narrow down what to look for before I go try on five thousand pairs. Thanks.
