it's not just the differences in waist circumference across the designers at a single size, but the the proportion of the bust/hip to the waist which really affects how an item fits across the different body shapes. as much as i find it frustrating, i think is necessary to express a designer's style aesthetic.

i think that's why i have a set group of "go to" designers whose proportions fit me more closely and whose aesthetic matches mine.

When I graduated from high school I was a size 10-12. 30 years later, and 10 lbs heavier I am a size 8-10. Go figure!

I struggle with the idea that when I get a pattern to craft a garment I have to size up to a 12-14!

I shop with a tape measure in my purse. Helps somewhat.

It would be so much easier if our dimensions were measured in inches, like men's sizes. So frustrating! Thanks for sharing, Cathy.

I like the idea of MyBestFit, I think, but I have never seen an installation. B-W-H measurements don't tell me anything about how shoulders fit and how narrow or wide the sleeves are cut, but it would be nice to know the measurements for each manufacturer AND the amount of ease they build in, assuming they are consistent from garment to garment. I have a pretty long list of long shot stores and companies, and am trying to amass a list of likely bet stores and companies. Sure, casting a wide net is nice, but if I start with BR and H&M, I will likely feel defeated almost immediately.

Eh, if they standardized sizing then some women would be happy and some wouldn't be able to buy clothes that fit. I agree with pattern designer Kathleen Fasanella that each brand/designer aims for a different segment of the market, and each segment has a different type of body type they design for, and that's as it should be.

Not that that makes finding things that fit any less aggravating.

Why do women put up with it? Men's sizing is just sooo much easier. Why can't they standardize women's sizing like they do shoes? Or men's sizing?
