Just ordered the Heavenly Long direct from Columbia on their Black Friday promotion. Same price as the one I got from The Bay -- but with an added $7 for shipping.

I'll take that as a low-hassle win.

Here's a picture of the damage to the Heavenly Long. I suppose a couple of stitches would address the damage to the seam. But I wonder if washing would remove the dark mark?

Suz, I also picked up one of these from Eddie Bauer -- thinking I can layer it under my larger burgundy puffer when it is really cold.
https://www.eddiebauer.ca/p/20.....pe=Regular

It's pretty lightweight but they say it's good to minus 20-something C when performing 'moderate' activity -- who knows what that really translates to. It comes in a few colours including burgundy, navy (twilight!) and light grey.

Good luck with the hunt!

Oh, bummer. That coat is not available on the website. But I can look for it elsewhere. It might work well for my climate. I tried the Lake 22 coat but I didn't like it so much -- it felt a bit cheaply made.

Well, that's a bummer that the first one has sold out! Maybe they will re-stock? How frustrating that the security tag damaged the garment. I like both coats--the first one seems more lightweight, while the second one looks like it would be especially toasty on the coldest days? I agree with your deep analysis on what exactly you need/would be practical.

Thanks, Kkards. I did see that it was available at full price on Columbia's site, but it truly never occurred to me to ask about a price match. I'll give that some thought.

The other thing I really still have to chew on is not only what do I like -- but WHAT DO I NEED???!! What will I wear underneath, and where will it be most useful? And because my wardrobe is in such flux and I'm not sure how much my shape will change over the winter, I don't have answers to some of those questions.

I do think I need something that is not too bulky but still reasonably warm, and can pass for dressy (well, casual Winnipeg winter dressy) -- ie the shape has some style, although not necessarily fitted, it is probably black, cream, metallic, or possibly even a bold colour -- and has some room underneath for layering.

I do like a light colored puffer…my experience with them as been excellent, sorry that the bay has sold out of the 1st one, but it does look like it’s available on Columbia’s site, of course not on sale, but maybe they would price match

If you like the damaged coat enough to keep it, take it back to the shop and ask for a partial refund. If they can’t replace it, they should at least compensate for the damage. FWIW, that’s what I would do. I think it looks great.

Cee, it's not there yet (quite lovely today, actually, all things considered), but that stage is coming when you don't give a rat's fuzzy bottom about what anything looks like as long as it keeps you moderately warm. Thanks for the fabulous chuckle!

Rachy -- white puffy club seems like a thing -- there are a few of us yearning for the ones that got away!

Shevia -- I think I also have to do some styling with my existing red parka to think how or if I would wear it. I wore it quite a bit a couple of winters ago and not at all recently (it was a bit snug). The biggest downside of the red one is that the hood is just SO heavy it literally unzips itself from the jacket. The hood on the white one is much neater.

Thanks Suz. The first one is the Heavenly long jacket by Columbia -on sale at The Bay.

Thanks for the first -hand experience, Glory. Nice to find another Winnipeggers, even if ex pat! I kind of figured the sleeker one would be more limited, so it's good to have confirmation.

The second style I have is called Peak to Park, I think. Not sure how it compares to lay de down - there was really a limited selection in the store. I think I will have warmth covered elsewhere, so won't worry as much with this one.

Jenni, it might just be a funny angle because the second one is quite loose. I'd have compared with a medium if they had one. But I think I am leaning harder toward the first one... Thanks!

The faux fur collar is pretty with your hair, I agree. But on balance, I think keep the first style.

This is a great colour for you. I think the first one is the heavenly hooded jacket. I have an older version in burgundy and it is a great light weight jacket. On the downside I can only wear it until about -5.
Last year I purchased a mid weight Columbia called Lay d down with omni heat. This takes me through the hard parts of the winter here in Ottawa - but I hail from Winnipeg.
I feel both look great and love the winter white. For me it would depend on how warm you need it to be.

Thank you cat2, slim cat, Chewyspaghetti, Grace, Kate, nomad and lozz! I am usually more comfortable with surrendering my waist, but I do like this one, too -- in part because it reminds me a bit of my 'original' white coat. I don't know how warm this one will be in dead of winter, but it would fill a hole for something a bit dressier and not bulky.

I am crossing my fingers that the one I have ordered will work out.

Irina -- thanks for voting for #2!

I don't mind surrendering my waist, especially for warmth. So the higher loft and furry hood of the second one hold their own appeal. That said, I have an older red one with a faux fur hood, and I've imagined that my new burgundy one will be what I wear for cold weather walks. (I also just picked up a packable down jacket (also in burgundy) to layer underneath that one for extra warmth. So I might be harder pressed to really justify the second white one.

This is why it is so much easier to just have on basic black parka -- no waffling!

My preference is also #1. The quilt pattern is more even giving the coat a dressier vibe and trimmer fit. #2 is more relaxed, but also looks good.

Yet another vote for the first one. Sleek and a great fit. The second is a bit boxier, and not quite as flattering a fit. I share your love for white (in my case, cream) colored outerwear. I really miss my knee-length cream puffer with the big hood. Would love to replace it someday.

I like the first one better. The faux fur collar on the second coat seems like a bit too much textile for the overall look of the coat. I'm also noticing a tighter quilting pattern in the lower half of the coat with the first option, which I think makes it a more flattering/dressier garment.

The first one looks sleeker and dressier a bit. Hope the one ordered will be fine. The second puffer looks sportier-casual - nice too.
