I like both outfits! The stripes and floral pattern mixing in #1 looks great. I have problems with soul sucking beige too and you did a great job of mitigating the color in outfit #2. The beautiful scarf is all I noticed and not the beige bottom layer.

I really love #1 -- nice pattern mix, and the colors are great on you. I know what you mean about facial expressions in pictures -- I have deleted a crazy number of photos and kept shooting because of some weird things I apparently do with my face without even realizing it!

So sorry you're getting sick JR - there seems to be alot of that going around!

Your scarf in #1 is gorgeous and works brilliantly with the striped top.And I think you conquered the SSB in #2!

Sorry you've been under the weather JR, feel better soon.

I simply adore the square shawl, what a stunning piece. I so love turtlenecks and this topper turns a basic into a fab. Well done.

JR I really like the pattern mix in #1. Floral and stripes are a stunning combo. #2 is a soul sucking beige success story! Simple yet stylish. Congrats on the nice passport photo. I always think that the intention of the pp photographer is to make is look as dreadful as possible! Even my adorable Master 9 does not look like himself in his pp photo:)

Well, you were going to renew your passport... don't look any further for not smiling! And now you're not allowed to smile on the pic either!

The first outfit is absolutely adorable. Everything about it is fab, from proportions to brilliant pattern mixing to shades.

I will be honest with you, I am not loving the second one. The shawl commands some heels because of its amplitude, and maybe a black t-neck.. And the turtleneck's colour seems off. Looking at the first pic, and seeing how well you wear greys, pearl, stone colour, I think you might look better in cooler shades. This mushroom colour tends to wash you out. Jewellery is nice though.
Sorry!

These are nice JR. I have to say I prefer #1 but that is probably because of the little bit of delicacy with the scarf. Your bateau stripe shirt is serving you well : )
The turtleneck color looks fine to me too.

Emily, I just tied a knot in a torsade chain.

Ceit, the turtleneck is a tan colour, which pre-YLF I thought was a good colour on me. I am way too cheap to throw it out, but I do try to make a point of getting some other colours near my face when I wear it. The magic scarf would have worked also (doesn't it always) but I do try to give it a break...

I wouldn't even call the second SSB - it looks more a silvery grey colour on my screen. I like it with the shawl/scarf. 1 is brilliant, love the brown and grey, and the stripes and scarf, and that jacket is great.

I really like the scarf in 1 - magic, indeed! I think of these the first is my favourite. That said the paisley shawl and Y Necklace look they were made for each other, I didn't even notice the beige.

You look so amazing in pale/gray colors! Love one, but 2 is great also, looks like a jacket or cardi, but it's a scarf, right? Very cool!

Caro, lighter shoes are on my wishlist. I'm keeping my eyes open. Thanks for the suggestion.

Suz, that jacket has served me well. I got it for $7.50 because the lining of the sleeves had been cut too long, making the hem sag. For that price I was willing to sew a pleat in the lining... It is getting a bit big, but I will squeeze all the wear out of it I can. I found a wonderful pair of arm warmers at Danier's when out shopping with Freckles which were NOT acrylic (two years I had been looking) so now I can wear my 3/4 sleeves even when going out in the winter. :o)

I really like the pattern mixing & layers in #1. I'd like to see #2 with lighter or brighter boots or shoes. Also I didn't notice the beige - just the beautiful scarf so your trick worked.

Nice outfits for someone feeling under the weather! I especially like #1 (but then, I would...having been on a stripes-and-scarf jag for over a month!) That jacket looks incredibly useful and cross seasonal as well.

I love the way you talk about outfit #2...the paisley calling for a response. It sounds as if you are really having fun with your clothes.

Please forgive the glum expression. I don't know what caused that, and didn't realize it till I uploaded the pics to my computer. I was coming down with a cold and feeling pretty draggy though.

First pic, what I wore to get my passport picture taken. By some incredible miracle, the passport pic was actually good. The one five years ago looked like a mug shot of some floozy. Oy. Concerning the clothes, I was experimenting with combining brown (the pants) and grey (the shirt and jacket). The magic scarf came to the rescue to tie it together and add a bit of colour. I wore my white wool coat, heeled booties, and 20s style retro hat out, and felt almost too well dressed. ;o) More visible than I'm used to being.

Day before I stayed home, and gave myself the challenge of making Soul-Sucking-Beige presentable. Square shawl was the magic-maker this time (I hope), adding some colour closer to the face and tying the navy and beige together. The richness of the paisley seemed to call for a response, so I wore filigree earings and a torsade chain. As per Angie's blog post, I like turtlenecks, despite having a short and aging neck, but I do tend to add a scarf or necklace (or both) to establish better proportions.

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome.
