Oh, I don't envy you getting ready to sell, but it's a nice side effect that you're thinking about your wardrobe and doing lots of planning/purging.

You're rockin' that hard hat btw!

It all sounds very glamorous until you realize 1) how filthy you get, especially your nails; 2) how unbelievably noisy a construction site is when you work there all day; and 3) just how stinky a sweaty hard hat can get. Also, high-vis is not that stylish.

Nice to see you Mander, thanks for sharing an update with us. The dig sounds so interesting, and what a broad range of finds that came out of it. A closet edit followed by some shopping with the YLFers in June sounds like just the thing

Glad to hear from you. I believe that your life must be less glamorous than it sounds, but just because you say so. My DD would be asking you about the dig with eyes full of stars.
Sometimes fashion takes a back seat and a closet purge is just the thing to make things move along.

You have the sort of life I read about in novels. On an archeological dig? How romantic :-)

Fashion has taken a bit of a back seat in my life too. I can relate. A closet edit seems like a really good idea -- you will feel so refreshed and organized afterwards!

Wow, this one was a great read (about your work:-)). Never thought how difficult can be for an archaeologist to "just distroy" for keeping up with the pace of the digging. Happy you got some new experiences and people to know and hope reuniting with your hubby will compensate you for all the hard work you're doing at the moment around your house (and wardrobe)! Hang in back here, Mander, when you'll have the time!

I hear you, Vix! Right now I'm more interested in paint and home décor than clothes.

The dig was certainly interesting for me. I'd never worked in an urban site, or on anything with very recent historic components, so that was both fun and frustrating. Fun because we came across things like part of an old brewery and buildings that had burned down in the Great Fire of London. There was also a lot of Roman stuff, which I don't know much about so that was fun to see. And we got a few prehistoric remains, which is almost unheard of in London, so that was cool.

But it was also frustrating because on all the prehistoric excavations I've ever worked on the pace of digging is much slower and it is more obvious when you can just dig and when you need to be more meticulous. It took me a while to get a feel for what I could just destroy. I got a nice workout, though!

The nice thing was that on this particular project they hired a lot of people with very little experience, so we got a ton of training on the job. I learned a huge amount in a short time, and with any luck I'll get hired on with the same outfit for a project later this summer. I also met a lot of nice people in the bargain. Even if I don't work with them again, at least I now know some people who live in London, so that I don't always have to hang out with DH's work friends!

Hi Mander!

I'm more interested in what you were digging than the clothing; says something about my frame of mind these days!

I hope the home sprucing and selling goes well. Guess you have to keep your eye on the prize: being in the same city with your husband!

I find in times of chaos/change my creativity in most areas, including dressing, either goes way up or way down. Once you're more settled maybe your pared-down wardrobe will let you experiment with new directions!

Really nice to hear from you! I think we all go through times when fashion takes a back seat. I like your goal of one giant suitcase perhaps the old steamer trunk needs a comeback. But -- you need one giant trunk per season no?

I have hardly been on YLF lately. Partly this is due to being less interested in fashion -- nothing has been tripping my trigger lately. But I have also been busy.

I've been working on sprucing up my house and getting it ready to sell. I hate to leave it but at the moment I am in one city while my husband is in another, and it's getting a bit silly. I also was away from home for 6 weeks, most of which I spent working a 6-days-a-week contract archaeology job. It was fun but digging all day is exhausting so I barely went on the internet at all!

However, with moving on my mind I've been thinking about what to purge from my closet. The other day I read a few sites about project 333, and though I don't think I will go through that whole process it did get me thinking about what I would pick for the next three months.

I also read part of the KonMari book (had to take it back to the library before I finished it!). I didn't think it was particularly well-written but I did think that the advice to do each category all at once was a good idea. In between waiting for plaster and paint to dry I will start the purging process. I fantasize about fitting my entire wardrobe into a single (albeit gigantic) suitcase, shoes and all. Not sure it will happen but I'll see what I can do!
