I love the staple idea too. Just be careful with lotions, makeup and lipgloss. You don't want to have an accident where something melts or opens, destroying the bag.

As others have said, I think the trick to swapping bags is to not have too much in it. But it's so personal. Some people like to carry around a huge bag with everything from extra shoes to a box of baby wipes, and others prefer a tiny clutch that holds lipstick and wallet.

I personally have just the one bag, but it would take me under 30 seconds to swap bags if I needed to. I carry

wallet
change purse
lipstick, lip balm and concealer
sunglasses
mobile phone
keys
sometimes a paperback or Kobo

I keep a box of Kleenex in the car. That's the only other thing I can think of that I could potentially add to my handbag, which isn't currently in it.

Deb, thanks for asking this; I've been wondering the same thing. I have a couple of bags, but I usually don't carry one--just keys & ID, cell, etc. in my pants pocket or in the pockets of my jean jacket or vest or blazer, etc. Somewhere along the line I stopped carrying a bag & it was a relief to not have too much stuff with me or have to remember not to leave it behind. But seeing all the great YLF examples of how much a bag can add to an outfit, maybe I'll have to start carrying one!

Janet, I do carry a shoulder bag and go for the 12 x 8 x 3 or so size. I, also try to keep the bag weight low. I do have favorites, though. I find Coach bags too large for me, but my daughter loves them. Dooney and Burke are just too heavy. It is amazing what I can get into a medium bag.

As long as I keep a bag organized, it is a snap to switch. I use a large zippered wallet and a cosmetics bag. The only other items are a brush, sunglasses and my phone. Now, if I've been disorganized and have receipts and change and all sorts of other things floating around the bottom of the bag, then it is a lot more time-consuming! But overall, all my cash, cards, receipts and paper goes in the wallet, and any small items (like cosmetics) go in the cosmetics bag, so I only have to transfer a few items from one bag to another. Bags that have a key leash are handy, otherwise I keep my key ring in an easily accessible pocket.

Deb, if you carry a shoulder bag and you choose to lighten your load like I did, your back will thank you! I'm also choosing smaller, lighter bags as a result -- bags have gotten so big in recent years that it's way too easy to find yourself carrying many pounds of heavy, unnecessary stuff.

OK, after reading what everyone has in their bags, I see it is definitely time for me to 'de-junk' my bag. It would certainly lighten my load. I do not know why I carried on the 'need to have everything because of kids' mentality. My kids are almost 30 for goodness sakes! I am getting so many good ideas from all of you ladies and I thank you!!!

Like Nadya, I keep items in my purse corralled in smaller cosmetic type bags. One holds lipstick, blotting tissues, aspirin, nail file, stuff like that. Another holds a pen, biz cards, and any coupons or notes that I need that day. Then there's my wallet, eyeglass case, phone, and keys.

Upon my physical therapist's urging, I have thinned out what I carry in my bag to keep it light, so that's pretty much it, so it's really not much effort to transfer those few things from one bag to another. Takes maybe a minute.

I really don't keep a lot so it's quite easy to switch. I hate clutter so I clean old receipts and such in record time.
I keep:
Fabric zipper bag with lip gloss, mirror, and a few toiletries
Wallet
Cell phone
Work ID
IPad
Keys
Sunglasses
It takes me 3 seconds to switch things back and forth.

I change my purse every few days, maybe twice a week. I sort of dovetail my outfits, sometimes wearing the same skirt twice in a row or repeating a top that only had a few hours' wear. That way I stay in the same color scheme and carry my bag for 3-4 days in a row. When I change, it's just a small man's wallet, phone, keys, lip balm, small lotion and pill box.

Re: wristlet wallet ... For a year I had this one:

http://mimg.ugo.com/201012/6/7.....80x480.jpg

With black patent leather exterior. ... which was great (got lots of comments, everyone wanted to know "why are you talking to your wallet" when I'd make a call.. LOL) ... I don't carry a lot of cash. This fit a $20 or two folded up and tucked in. Unfortunately, the metallic part was not sturdy and broke.

For xmas my hubby got me this one:
http://www.imichaelkorsfactory.....one-Python

Which has slits for credit cards, space for some folded bills and receipts, and a slot for iphone with a case to fit. It all zips up nice and neat, and the whole thing fits in a clutch. Or I can take just this, and put comb and lipstick in my pocket.

I switch bags fairly frequently though not quite daily. I used to use one of those purse inserts and it was nice. But then I went on this long jag carrying nothing but clutches (with wrist strap) - easier on the back - and the insert wouldn't fit into it. (For work I'd just toss the clutch into my laptop bag, which has wheels ... yeah... not fashionable but boy does it save my back.)

The clutch jag taught me to be a minimalist, and I was already a minimalist when it came to what I carry in a purse. Here's my strategy:

1) I stock all my purses with certain common supplies such as hygiene products, Kleenex, gum, and a couple of band-aids. No transferring necessary; it's already in the bag.

2) I keep car keys and sunglasses in a bowl near the entryway -- basically any item you might grab without your purse to go outside (for a walk, walk the dog if you have one, quick run to the car, etc). This way, these items are dissociated from your purse. You make a habit of adding them to whatever purse you happen to have settled on.

3) I transfer from purse to purse only these items: a) foldable comb/brush b) lipstick c) wallet (which happens to be a clever wristlet design that also fits my iphone).

Actually, with lipstick, I often have older tubes in each purse. So if I forget to transfer my current in rotation favorite, I'm set because there's probably an older one rattling around. I also have a chapstick attached to my keychain. So I am never ever without some sort of lippie. I do not bother packing any other make up in my purse.

What's nice about this strategy is I only have to remember and transfer just three items. (well I also have to remember to take my iphone off the charger and put it into the wristlet, but I'm so enamored of my iphone I never forget to do that!)

4) Last thing I do is stash a cardigan and/or a scarf, which is selected to coordinate with whatever I am wearing. So this is not a "transfer" item.

Umbrellas: I have a ton of them everywhere so I am never without. I keep one in my laptop bag. A few in my car. And several in the coat closet.

There is always that moment when I am standing over the trash can cleaning out old kleenex and ticket stubs and gum wrappers and other junk left in my purse from the prior use. If I'm running late, I do this later, but it drives me nuts so first chance I can get you'll find me doing the de-clutter/dump... public restroom... gas station... work trash can..

I use the Kangaroo Keeper purse insert and love it! You can buy it here: http://www.amazon.com/KANGAROO.....B003XF8RWC

And here's April's review of it from a couple of years ago: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....zer-review

Note: I first got the black one, and then replaced it with the tan because it's MUCH easier to see the contents in the tan one. The black one is like a black hole!

I use a smallish, zippered wallet with a coin pocket for my cash and credit cards. My key chain is attached to a credit-card size case that contains my driver's license and personal ID. Everything else (tissues, lipbalm, wipes, file, gum, etc.) goes into a small zippered pouch.

To change bags, all I need to do is throw my sunglasses, phone, wallet, key chain, and zippered pouch into my bag. If it's raining, I'll also toss in a small umbrella. Takes only seconds. If I'm carrying a small bag, I just use my wallet, key chain, and sunglasses.

I use small zippered cosmetic bags to keep things in: I have one for pills, lip balm and other essentials, and a bigger one for makeup. So I can swap purses by just moving my wallet and those two bags (plus sunglasses in the summer). Since starting this system I'm a lot more likely to change handbags!

I see what you mean. It cat get tiresome to change very often, and besides, it is a lot easier to forget important items. I have only a few bags, and I don't change a lot between them, but more so now than I used to (must be YLF, I guess!). My solution is to use a fairly big purse where I keep my credit cards, cash, driver's license and lipstick permanently. I have room for my phone and keys too in it if necessary. This one is with me at all times. If I want to use another bag it's fairly simple to change it by removing the purse and adding it to the new bag. In addition to the mentioned small items in my purse, I usually never bring a lot with me. The largest item would be my computer to and from work, occasionally, and sometimes I have an iPad, umbrella, sunglasses etc in my bag, too. This way, I can match my bags to my outfits without too much fuzz.
