I love that fashion era, especially the flared pants with pointy toes and body-skimming tops. Plus mini-trends like those long belted thick cardigans... When I watch Gilmore Girls and Friends I always enjoy the outfits and still find them appealing.

I also have been wanting to bring some of that back to my current clothing choices. I feel elegant with flares and widelegs worn with pointy toes and slim tops. The one thing that's changed for me is the rise. I loved those ultra-low rises (so comfortable!) but now they just look too low. I guess that's the one point where I feel it all needs an update. I see you are dealing with this by wearing untucked tops, but I like to tuck or semi-tuck...

I personally think if you're confident you can rock anything you wear. You can look at current fashion trends although shoes don't normally go out of style. You can wear those outside or inside any type of pants or bottoms. When it comes to the bootcut try to wear heels, nice boots, or something a little higher and nicer. Wearing running shoes or work boots might not look the best, unless they only flare out a bit. Try on different shoes and check in a mirror. If you're comfortable you'll be fine!

Previous iteration of bootcut meant mandatory higher heels. This time around, I got the Lucky Lolita bootcut in 32 inch length, which for me makes for ppl with very low heeled boots. They do sell them in 3O or 34, so they might work for a number of fabbers.

As far as rises for baby bootcuts, the pants I purchased are in the medium to low rise category so that tucking is an option. If I tuck into high waisted pants I’m physically uncomfortable and look very bad around the midsection. I’m partial to high rise side zipper straight leg pants for tucking or looking smooth under a top.

I’m in search of a new shorter fall blazer, but striking out so far. Early days though.

@Sal: i'm going to try what i have in the closet. i may need a boxy crop/short top or two to update the pants.

@annagybe: i've been on the hunt for just the right boho midi...like goths go to coachella or iggy does glastonbury. i have one boho-lite dress that may work.

@Liesbeth: hunting down that blazers/bootcuts post now.

@rachylou: i suppose all i need is a fashion puffie. maybe in a tartan. off to check uniqlo.

I do like older pieces mixed in with newer ones. I don't have anything much from this time - I have a pair of shoes from 2000, a dress from 1999 and one gear top.

I think baby bootcuts can easily be worn - with a jacket, blazer or even an asymmetric top. I would not wear with a fitted button down shirt which is how I used to wear them.

I think skinny pointy boots look great with wide leg crops, culottes or a full midi skirt. I would not wear them with a pencil skirt suit (or I would be cautious about doing so)

As long as it is not cargo shorts with a zip on piece at the bottom to convert to full length pants then you should be fine (haha)

@3style like you, i'm moving more toward full length, even floor dusting pants in wide leg or bootcut.

@Aida, hah! i just hemmed a pair of 90s/00s ag wide leg jeans that i didn't wear when skinnies reigned. i'll see if i can modernize it.

I think they might be an item-by-item situation. I just cleaned out a closet that had a bunch of stuff, including several pairs of expensive 90s/00s jeans, which I had forgotten about; pretty much none of the jeans I would consider wearable for me because I just don't have that much 90s in my style (not even back then, heh) and the rises and stitching felt off. One or two I kept to make into baggy cutoffs, and one that was mid-rise I set aside but am already leaning towards passing on.

The easiest way to update would be to wear only one of those older items in an outfit and pair with distinctively trendy, modern partners. I think you have enough trendy things to do this with!

I guess the first question is how do you think that they look on you and how do they relate to your figure flattering priorities.

I just bought some babybootcuts, because I am tired of skinnies and currently uninterested in anything wider than a simple straight leg, and I like how baby boots look with the Moto boots and cowboy inspired boots which are my basic winter outdoor shoes.

i've been watching 90s tv shows-- "coupling", "monk", "will and grace". not strictly 90s, but early '00s with enough 90s carry over. i've notices that the tops worn particularly on "coupling" are very relevant today, but the bottoms or bottom/top pairings give the outfit a dated look.

i still have many of those items in my closet, partly nostalgia for items i bought when i first started making an income, partly hoarder tendencies, partly feeling that i didn't get "enough" use out of expensive items especially shoes. like the pointy toe spike heel skinny tall boots and the full length baby boot cuts. if anything goes in fashion, how do i update these items?
