I was a teen during the "natural" look of the late '70s, but did wear some bright colors in the '80s. This is one reason I don.'the think I look good in bright colors. I look back at those '80s pictures and wonder what I was thinking, lol. I look so much better in more toned down colors.

Yes I wore more make up in the 80s than I do now. I favoured green eye shadow to match my eyes. And peach lipstick. Nice.

I wore teal eyeliner and fuschia lipgloss today since I had a black sweatshirt and pearls Madonna thing going on. My hair was not big enough. I do remember the 80s very well. I was thinking I needed my reebok Velcro high tops.

Also kissing potion seems like more of a late 70s thing. I owned a few of those and had a large collection of bonne bell lip smackers. And back pocket combs.

Thanks for this wonderful and, at times, hysterically funny walk down memory lane. The '80's were fun times. Everyone and everything seemed bigger than life. (Grace Jones -- still LOVE her!!!) I sometimes miss my "big and flammable" hair and can remember how much time, effort and product went into making it that BIG. And it took even longer to do the "spackle and paint job" on my face. I would never have time or energy for these processes in my current lifestyle -- which is very "gas and go".

Luckily I was juuuuust a bit too young to go hog-wild with these makeup trends. My mom wouldn't even let me wear any until I was fifteen (1987) and by then I think the crazy blue eyeshadow trend was waning. Plus, my eyes are small and somewhat deep-set, so heavy application of eyeliner or eyeshadow tends to make them look like two black holes in my face -- something that was manifestly obvious to me even back then (and judging by my hairstyles, my teenage self lacked judgment). By the time I really got going with the makeup thing, the 90s were approaching, with grunge on the horizon.

I do remember happily wearing a frosted brown lipstick for most of grade ten, though.

So interesting! Everything was so big and theatrical then. I was glad the author mentioned the pachuco/chola subculture. Growing up in Houston, I was fascinated by that look. Those girls were so badass. I was excited when my younger sister made friends with one so I could get a closer look at what was going on there. They were feministas, for sure, and not to be messed with.

What a good read! Maybe that's why I wore make up in the 80s and not so much now.
