Sis is standing on some tissue paper. You can't really tell here, but the tulle layer was under the lace. I can't remember how long it took to make that dress. My sister saved it for her daughter to wear, but when she married it was a different era and my niece wanted something very different.&nbsp;</p> <p>This was in the 50's petticoat era--holding the dress out. I left most of the petticoat layer off, so it was considerably less bouffant. I was in kind of a haze anyway. I just wanted to be married and start real life!</p> <p>Happy that so many of you are enjoying these photos. Last year while working on these, it dawned on me that there were no photos of my parents' wedding. Now I find it sad that this happened. They got married in the midst of the Depression, a few months after my grandfather died--my Mom's Dad. Mom claimed they were engaged "off and on" for 7 years. They did have a small wedding. I also like the wedding dress - you mentioned removing a layer of tulle, but is that a lace 'peplum' I see on the skirt? Another detail I like but cannot find - think I might need to go visit some vintage bridal stores </p> <p>PS - Congratulations on not just staying married (any tips for the rest of us? lol), but also completing everything else you mentioned afterwards (kids &amp; schooling). We changed it a little--taking off an overlay of tulle. The bridesmaids made their own dresses, and I think my Mom made hers. I rented the headpiece--I think it was $15 for the day. A few weeks later we had an open house in So. Cal at my in-laws house. I liked my hair better then.&nbsp;</p> <p>Our most frequent entertainment was to put the kids to sleep in the back of the car and drive up and down Hollywood Blvd. and sometimes Sunset, to look at the hippies and the folks dressing up in amazing outfits. Wish we'd taken photos of those sights.
