The topics on this site are non-exhaustive, Maya. Writers block is thankfully inconceivable at this point. I can barely keep up with what I want to write about.

Becky, nice to know that you swotted Psycho and like the colour red as much as I do. Good common ground!

Well said Angie and Maya. I'd not wear what Maya did because I wouldn't feel like me, but I can definitely see her pulling it off. Like I commented on yesterday's blog, a personal style should fits one's body type AND personality.

I've been noticing lately that a lot of forum topics have been turning into blog entries. You'll never run out of ideas, Angie!

I think going to art schools in NYC, especially ones with such prominent fashion programs, has definitely had an impact on how I dress. I'm always getting ideas from classmates and fashion shows that are held on campus. (As a side note, I almost ended up in the fashion marketing program rather than graphic design, but I decided I'd rather do graphic design FOR fashion).

We are always taught in graphic design that what we like and what is appropriate are often 2 different things. I am personally a fan of clean, minimal, elegant designs, but that's not right for a toy store logo! So I am in complete agreement. What I wear and what I appreciate aren't always the same.

Not sure what my own personal style is. We do attend a lot of art gallery openings and frequent the art scene here in Boston, nearly constantly. So I do have just a bit of an artsy-fartsy streak myself!!

I can say that I absolutely adore Maya's dress, the necklace, and the boots. I love each individual piece and would welcome any of them into my wardrobe!!! I have been known to wear a very similar dress - even similar shade - and necklaces that are in similar style. I love unusual, one of a kind necklaces that look more like artwork than jewelry.

But, I *personally* wouldn't do the dress-over jeans thing. That's just me - I could be wrong, but I don't think it would work on my short frame (remembering my shortness is mostly in my legs). I fear it would make my legs look shorter than they are, and I'd be afraid it would add extra pounds I don't need. And mostly I think it would just feel too fussy to have the long layer of a skirt over jeans.

With that said, this winter I did have a favorite outfit that was a pair of skinny cords, with a long, form-fitting cowl-neck sweater. The sweater hit about mid thigh. I belted it with a wide belt. The sweater and cords were in the same color for one long lean lengthening look. I wore it with boots but the pants over the boots - again, to lengthen the leg. I'm always doing whatever I can to lengthen my legs!!

Yay Julia (Maya's body type twin)! You like the look too. Would you go for this look?

Maya raises an interesting point about how “persona” can come into play with clothing and outfit preferences (but not always I might add because there are always exceptions to the rule). I’m arty farty. Almost did a Fine Arts degree but opted for Psychology instead. After years of Psychology, I went back and studied fashion design because the creative juices kept on flowing. I became a fashion buyer, did that for most of my career and loved every minute of it. Then it was time to leave that hectic lifestyle behind and go out on my own. Now I REALLY use my entire skill set as a fashion stylist and love my updated career path.

Excuse the inane information, but there is method to the madness. To be a successful fashion buyer you often buy items in for a store that you do not personally prefer, but that your target market will love and purchase. You therefore develop a skill and an appreciation between good taste, bad taste and most importantly DIFFERENT taste. So too Maya’s and Julia’s point, there are different taste levels on this forum. You might not like something personally but you appreciate the look on someone else because it works for them for a whole myriad of reasons. I use this skill in my line of work every day.

Soooooo, yes Maya, it is apparent and I am flattered that we have a similar taste level. Probably because we have a similar arty -farty persona. That’s why dressing daily can be “a fun creative science” for everyone. Personality and lifestyle come into play WITH body type. Hence we have this forum and hence we yak on it all the time!

Maya, my first reaction was "Wow". I echo what Angie said, this is the best I've seen you posted so far.

I have a friend who majored in architecture and she has the same taste as yours. Although I can never come up with what she put together but I always loved her ensembles, it went so well with her personality and made her very unique. You should definitely keep this coming and develop your signature style.

Maya, that sweater dress was such a great find. Excellent bargain shopping skills.
I love the boots on you, they are just not something I would be able to pull off.

But all the credit to you for being able to, and doing it in a very stylish manner!
You can certainly pull of some unique outfits, like the ones you just mentioned.

Perhaps I'm flattering myself to say this, but I get the sense that we have similar taste Angie. This is my favorite look as well, along with my cropped jacket/yellow bag/red tank/straight jeans one I did last week. And the Marimekko top was a real success for me because I was afraid of looking like a tent, so it was good to know I pulled it off.

The boots are fantastic. I wore a version of these in suede in the 80’s ( Nicole and I are a similar age), and I am happily embracing them again. My ‘80s cream ankle boots are a little sleeker and smarter and I feel hellishly sophisticated in them. I’m so glad that you kept them and that they work for your feet. This is my fav look that you have shown. Keep it coming!

Since returning to school I have become the queen of bargain shopping.

It probably won't last too long since it has such a high acrylic content, but I figured for $8 I won't be devastated it it only lasts one season...and if it does last, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Maya, that sweater dress is wonderful on you! It really emphasizes your hourglass figure and makes your waist look tiny. It's very retro/boho, which is totally your style, so you can pull it off.

I do remember Angie. I didn't like them with my straight jeans but I do like them with skinnies, and they were so comfortable and such a good price that I ended up keeping them. They definitely are 10 hour boots and that's saying a lot coming from me, so it would have been foolish to give them up.

Retro and Euro are two looks I really embrace so I'm glad to hear you say that! I think they look best from the side where the detail can be seen. They also have a nice crackled worn texture that I like.

http://www.6pm.com/n/p/p/7259159/c/66701.html (those are the boots, for anyone who cares to look)

I don't think it has anything to do with being flattering. It's a subjective matter. Nicole and Tanya seem to have a more sophisticated standard than me, and perhaps my age gives me a different perspective of the 80's as something fun and funky and retro as opposed to schlumpy and outdated.

Also I just can't wear black boots in spring, even though it's cold and rainy!

It's true that red is my signature color. I am lucky that I can wear pretty much any color as long as it's bright enough. The only colors I don't wear well are pastels, which I'm not fond of anyway.

I absolutely LOVE the cream boots! Super funky, 80’s retro and very Euro. I bought a pair like that in London last year and they are a favourite. (And of course they are extremely comfortable – 10 hour shoes). It was “the” boot on the streets of London in Autumn so I HAD to have the look. I tuck my jeans in just like that. We had a conversation about this type of ankle boot at the beginning of the year, Maya, do you remember?

You look fab! Beautiful necklace and super tunic. Now that’s dressing out of your box. Well done!

Hmmm I'm not sure I'm liking the boots. Maybe because they were fashionable when I was in HS (and owned a pair in black). I think they make the outfit look a little frumpy...but I know you have shoe issues. Love the necklace though...and I would imagine your complexion looks great in red!
