Thanks Sharan! Great idea to layer the vest under the green jacket, and DUH just figured out that that green jacket with that vest also works with some slightly darker green jeans - have had both green items for years but never thought about combining them :-) Maybe I'm getting more relaxed about color combinations.

Wow, that new cardigan and pants are dynamite on you, Chris! It's like the sweater was just made for you. The sweater vest and loafers are super, too. And I really like the sweater vest with the shirttail out in 4. To me the proportion is just right, and I think the curved hem of the shirttail is flattering. But I can also understand being sensitive to seeing lines drawn across one's body at certain points (for me it is elsewhere). Under the cardigan, I prefer the less bulky tops to the sweater vest. I think the vest could layer nicely under the green jacket.

Brooklyn, our resident High Priestess of Earth Tones, (or one of them), thanks for all the suggestions! I tend to want just a few colors in an outfit but you've inspired me to try MORE. I have some dark red items that would be great to try with this outfit - 2 tops, loafers, boots (in the chunkier style you suggested), and a bag that I'd like to replace with something funkier. Finds below. I also have on my wish list dark brown chunky booties, and a couple of thigh or longer "overcoats" meaning not puffers/sporty - in dark red and/or a brown plaid.

I'd love to find tops in teal and/or forest green too - have neither at the moment.

I think both the cardigan and the pants are real winners. I especially like 1/2. I like the vest too.

I have a few suggestions about styling (just my opinion of course):

*I think the plain top with the cardigan in 1/2 creates a nice textural contrast. I think 5 leans too matchy matchy (in terms of texture) and you lose that contrast.
*You could try experimenting with different coloured layering tops beneath the cardigan to add a little more colour in a way that doesn’t overwhelm. I think dark red and teal could look great.
*I’d love to see the cardigan with a longer coat or jacket (mid thigh) to give the cardigan more of a long waistcoat vibe. (But I do like it with the jackets you have shown.)
*I agree the 2 greens in 7 work together but it might work even better if you double down on one of the greens eg repeat the colour of your jacket in in your layering top or if you add a third green eg a dark forest green layering top.
*Would you consider wearing a chunkier shoe? I think it would toughen up the look of the cardigan, if that’s a vibe that you like. I think I saw somewhere that you had collected a similar shoe to this one (which I have!). But I can’t see it now so I might be mistaken.

Great new pieces. I like the agave green, lovely color on you and the texture is nice too. The pants look fine to my eye, even with the wrinkles in the back. I find that even a thicker fabric like denim will wrinkle so I don't worry about it.

The LOFT sweater vest is another winner. I'm with you I would tuck in the shirt, just because I'd rather see more shirt peeking out than what you have here. That vest goes really well with the brown pants. You've assembled very nice outfits for fall with these additions, bravo!

I love the sage cardigan and pants on you. What a beautiful color palette. The Loft sweater I was attracted to myself, but I knew I would have to fiddle with it way to much to make it work for me. I do love it under the cardigan. Those colors are just perfect on you. BTW, your hair is looking gorgeous!

Thanks DebD! Well i can't take credit for the sweater buckle and pants being the same color - that's how it's shown on the Soft Surroundings catalog.

As far as the Loft sweater - interestingly enough the find I showed is for the petite size, with the model wearing the shirt tucked. HOWEVER, in the find Angie showed, for the regular size (shown below), the model is wearing the shirt untucked. Wonder if that was by design?

Thanks RobinF! The buckle matching the pants was done by someone at SS marketing ... I might not have put them together myself.

I love the new items. That sweater is beautiful and looks great on you. I also agree that the pants look like they fit well. I never would have noticed the wrinkles if you hadn't pointed it out :)

My favorite look is #1 with the lower necked top under the sweater (although I think they all work) and I like the way the pant color echoes the fastening on the sweater. I also quite like the shirttail showing under the vest but that is a personal preference and I bet will look just fine tucked in.

I love, love, love outfit #1 on you! Everything is right about it.The sweater is a beautiful shade of green, and really defines your waist with the buckle closed. And you have a nice tonal match going on between the buckle and pants. Sharp!

You look great in the Lot sweater vest, too, and I agree with you that the shirt ends should be tucked in, as shown on the model in the Loft photo.

Thanks Roberta! Yes the proportions of short sweater, longer shirt, etc are so different from one body to another and one garment to another. This look might work on me with a shorter button down shirt but that's not something I'm willing to invest time in finding :-)

Suz, thanks and EXACTLY as far as leg shape vs pant shape. I've decided to not sweat it on those wrinkles. I see them on a lot of other people and I bet very few notice it.

Thanks Star! Hah - sounds like you prefer a sligthly longer shirt in this sort of look, like what I'm showing. Different strokes for different folks!

Thanks Angie! Yes of course you are right that the pant wrinkles are all about the draping, how the pants are cut etc. I've read instructions on how to make a pant pattern that fits exactly on one's own body, but I just can't be bothered putting time into that :-) Yes the sweater vest IS unexpectedly good quality for a knit from Loft!

KILLER cardigan, Chris! The V-neck and the side fastening offsets the length you're worried about. Works well under the tan jacket too!

Fabulous pants! Don't worry one bit about those wrinkles. It can happen on my clients with very narrow thighs. It's not a body type thing, IMO. It's fabric, drape and silhouette thing. They don't look tight. They look GREAT :)

Waving at my sweater vest twin! Such an unexpected quality piece. Looks wonderful, and wear it any way YOU want to. You're the boss of your clothes!

Hope the next size down on the shoes work too! Pretty, and dressier than you usually go for. NICE!

Love the cardigan on you. The soft muted green is beautiful -- agave, yes, but also a soft sage, or oceanside green, perhaps. Lovely! I like the pants, too, and the loafers (crossing fingers they work). Very nice combo.

Re the wrinkles on the pants -- this happens on me sometimes because
my hamstrings/ thighs need more room than a slim or straight leg or boot leg pant allows. Sizing up doesn't work for the reason you say. The pant design is relatively slim and my leg is...my leg!

It does not happen with wide leg trousers, only with slim or skinny or straight trousers or -- especially -- jeans. Happens to almost everyone with slim jeans that have stretch, in fact!

Sometimes I can fix this by keeping the length of the pant on the shorter side. This is the case when some of the problem is due simply to too much fabric, because of my shorter height. It's sort of like the problem you'll get in the back if you are short waisted and you try a too-long waisted dress. But where pants are made of stretchy fabric, it likely won't help a whole lot to try to fix by making the pant shorter. And anyway, you don't want to make the pant too short.

The fit looks fantastic in the front, so likely that's just the way these pants are, if that makes sense.

Re the shirt / vest -- you can also try a shorter more cropped shirt if you do want the shirttails to show a bit. But tucking the shirt in is an easy solution, and more amenable to what's already in the closet.

The cardigan and pants are a wonderful color combination on you! I love those muted forest colors. I know what you mean about the shirt tail showing under the vest - that is hard to get right. Sometimes I like it, and sometimes it feels really sloppy and I have to tuck it in. I haven't quite figured out what the magic of the right way is yet.

I’m considering these 4 new pieces for fall and would love your inputs. I am really liking these soft earth tones. They are shown in the first 3 finds.

Soft Surroundings Sweater. The color is a grey/blue-ish green, called “Agave Green”. I normally avoid tops/toppers at this length because they visually shorten me and emphasize my widest area, but this one seems to be ok

Soft Surroundings Pants in a color called "saddle" These are pull-on stretchy faux suede fabric

Loft Sweater Vest (the one Angie showed recently). I bought
this a few days before she showed it …great minds think alike of course :-)

Cole Haan loafers. These are too big, waiting for the next size down. Not sure they are going to be comfy enough but I like the
color ... also available in a slightly darker brown

Photos

SS Sweater and pants, white tank, brown booties that I hope last
another year. Pants a tiny bit too long but otherwise like this

… added a tan jacket

back view of the pants - lots of gathers. The next size up is way too big. Not sure if it's a deal breaker since it happens in almost every pair of pants I own but I wish it were not so.

Loft sweater vest (petite), a white shirt, brown jeans, Cole Haan shoes. I’m 5” shorter than Angie and do NOT like the expanse of white shirt down around my thigh area … where on Angie the untucked shirt proportions are great! I’d rather wear it tucked in.

SS Sweater over the Loft vest … whole lotta cableknit here LOVE cable knit.

SS Sweater, dark wash blue jeans, light camel lace top, light camel loafers

…same with an Olive green jacket … .. the greens clash a little but it’s ok.

Any and all comments most welcome!
