Thanks Smittie, I’ll keep that in mind

Windchime- i’d love to see your version of the cobalt skirt.

Mainelady- I haven’t tried that combination yet, but I will the next time I wear the dress.

Joy- I’m so happy with this dress. I can add layers easily for warmth, and when it starts to warm up, it has sleeves!

Jussie - I hadn’t thought of looking for scarves at a thrift store. It has been a while since I’ve gone, so maybe a trip is in order.

I think each of the outfits looks really good. You look so polished, neat and tasteful.
In number 1 I see no problems with the black hosiery- as someone earlier mentioned it balances the outfit out nicely. Maybe you feel frustrated with it because cobalt is a tricky colour to pair with any other colours? I love it- but get frustrated when putting it into an outfit and I remember my options are kind of limited to black or white. Well I mean there are other options of course but they’re a little trickier to pull off I think.
Well done on some gorgeous outfits!
Also, scarves can be bought so cheaply from thrift if you feel like expanding your scarf capsule might be handy?

You look fab in everything, but the first and last outfits are my favorites. That chevron dress is spectacular. It goes well with the new long cardigan.

You really know which styles flatter you and your outfits all look great! My favorites are #1 and #8. I am wondering how the jacket in #5 looks with your sheath dress. Have you tried them together?

You are doing a fantastic job with your outfits!

I have a skirt very similar in color and style to yours in #1, and I've also struggled trying to get the weight and color of my tights/stockings right when I wear the skirt in cold weather. Maybe cobalt is a trickier color to work with than it would seem. In any case, I love your outfit here and might copycat it. :)

I can also relate to trying a scarf 10 different ways and then giving up! Your scarf is beautiful and looks good in #3.

The chevron sheath dress was MADE for you--it looks fabulous on you every time you style it!

These are great outfits! I love the blue skirt outfit, but they’re all great.
I think the burgundy jacket works nicely.

Since you like to wear scarves, that indicates that you like something noticeable on your neck. So if you are going to purchase jewelry in the near future, I would purchase something a little bit noticeable.

Thanks sterling. The blue in the shirt shows up much better in person. Though I do like black and white with cobalt and will likely wear that type of combination in the future.

La Belle Demimondaine - what a fantastic idea! I’ll have to try that and see how it feels.

I love your outfits! You have a great feel for proportion and fit. My favorite colors are the really sharp, clear whites and royals, because when you wear those, I find I am looking right at your face. The muted colors and the black look great on you, but I find I look at the 'whole picture' more, and I don't really look at your face. This might be worth exploring, if you give presentations or are going to sit down for an interview, versus when you want to have a lower profile.

When I used to have an office job, and the temperatures dropped outside, I would wear nude hosiery underneath sheer black hose, so I could have that sheerer look with skirts, and still stay warm. It can be a little tricky though, because you have to make sure the hosiery is relaxed over the toes. Otherwise, when you put on that top pair, you wind up with the hosiery pulling on the toes.

Beth Ann - thanks, shoes and jewelry are a bit of a wardrobe hole for me. I’m looking for dressier booties to wear with dresses and skirts and for a long necklace.

Angie - Thanks, I’m trying to keep that in mind as I put outfits together.

SarahD8 - I kind of expected that to be the case as the challenge went on, but it’s nice to know that I’m not alone in that feeling and that it is worth it to get the most out of my wardrobe.

karen13 - The jacket is growing on me. I like the fit and the color. The buttons and the collar shape are taking some getting used to.

cjh - thanks for the link! That is just the style I was thinking of.

MsMary - I have it in white and blue. I love them for layering in the winter and on their own in the summer.

Dianna and torontogirl - I had just moved a few purple/plum pieces from work to casual wear due to pulling or other issues. I’m having trouble finding the right replacement pieces, but have added some burgundy in the meantime.

Katerina - thanks for the reassurance on the blue skirt. I’m hoping it is a color that will transition well throughout the seasons.

All of the outfits are great! Impeccable fit. I agree that burgundy is fantastic on you. You look amazing in all these outfits. The new cardigan with the dress is a stunning combo.
I LOVE no 1 - the skirt is adorable and the way you have combined it with the top and the black cardigan is beatiful. I actually like the black opaque tights with this outfit, to my eye it creates a perfect balance with the cardigan in colder weather. I am sure it will be also lovely with sheer tights as well when the temperatures will rise.
You have created such a great capsular work wardrobe and have so many fab combinations. Well done!

great idea about changing the buttons on the jacket. The brass tone spheres are both casual and military looking. Perhaps a dark gray shell type, or even a color match would be better. It's worth taking the jacket to the fabric store to see if you can find the right color and size. Something like this might work:

That chevron dress is to die for. I really like the burgundy jacket and don't think the chest pockets look bad in any way. But unbuttoned does de-emphasize them, so that works.

The frustration that you describe in your post sounds familiar to me. I find that when I start working with a capsule I'm super psyched at first because I'm wearing the most obvious "good" outfits. Then the first time I remix I get frustrated that items don't seem as versatile or combinations don't come off as well as I'd thought. Then the second time around with remixing I start to see the less obvious possibilities and things start to work better again.

I LOVE the blue skirt in #1. It doesn't seem too heavy with the tights to my eye although I do like the idea of trying sheer hose with the pumps, or booties with the tights.

I see what you mean about the scarf hiding the light shell in #3 but I think the metallic (?) in the scarf also brings some lightness. Maybe a smaller scarf would work better in these sorts of outfits?

I like the more subdued look with the pockets unbuttoned in #6 too.

#8 is SUPER FAB!

And I love all your ideas for remixing and can't wait to see them!

You've got a great eye for fit, and your proportions are classic and flattering. It seems like you're learning to make the most of wardrobe items by remixing them and creating new outfits -- with great resuls!

Oh yes, so glad you mentioned the burgundy jacket with the dress -- that would be wonderful, I think! For #4 -- How's your necklace collection? I would try something bold, I think.

Also, for the first look -- when the weather warms a bit, sheer black stockings would be nice. For winter, I could see a refined black bootie with the tights. I feel like tights with booties seem bolder, but less "heavy" than they do when paired with pumps.

At the end of week 5 I have 23 outfits using 31 pieces of clothing (excluding shoes and scarves and under layers for warmth).

I am aiming for the dressier end of the business casual spectrum, without looking too corporate.

1-2: Black/blue/white abstract print shell, black cardigan, blue skirt. 2 is a closeup of the top and skirt together since the colors in the shirt don’t photograph well from a distance. The skirt is a new addition to my wardrobe. I realized all my bottoms were black or grey and decided to add some color. I don’t think I like the contrast against the dark tights. Wearing skirts more in winter while staying warm is turning out to be a lot harder than I expected.

3-4: Black blazer, white shell, black ankle pants, purple paisley scarf. All pieces I’ve worn before, but none of them together. I tried to bring color in with the scarf, but that seemed to make the outfit darker since then the white shirt was covered. I think I tried the scarf at least 10 different ways before calling it quits and just taking it off. I would have liked to add a necklace instead, but I was already at work.

5-6: Cabernet jacket, black and white floral top, black boot cut pants. Again, all pieces I’ve worn before. I’m considering changing the buttons on this jacket to something more subdued. I usually wear silver toned jewelry, not gold, and I don’t like how these buttons seem to draw attention to the boob pockets on the jacket. I would actually prefer to remove the upper pockets entirely, but I’m afraid that it would still show where the pockets were. 5 shows the pockets buttoned, 6 shows them unbuttoned. I wore it unbuttoned.

7: Teal flutter sleeve blouse, grey boot cut pants, teal and grey scarf. Yet another remix. It was warm enough today for the short sleeves, but I’m not sure if the short sleeves plus scarf made seasonal sense.

8: Remixing my chevron sheath dress with a new burgundy cardigan. I’m still loving this dress.

I struggled a bit this week now that I am mostly remixing items from earlier outfits. Looking back, I see some changes that I think I might try in the coming weeks. Swapping out the cardigan in #1 for the blazer in #3. I know I like the blazer with the top, but I’m not sure about combining it with the skirt. Also using the jacket from #5 with the scarf in #3. I also want to try the jacket from #5 with the dress in #8 or a skirt, and the dress with my butterfly scarf from prior weeks.

As always, any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!
