Thank you, Joy, Shevia, rachylou, jussie, Mainelady,
SarahD8, Elizabeth P, Katerina. I've enjoyed getting to know you during this challenge.

I'm also glad to see that I am not alone in changing my mind in the morning about what I'm going to wear. I take into account my energy levels, what I 'image' I want to project, who is on my meeting schedule, and the weather. Do I feel like being cozy, approachable, laid back, energized, authoritative, or so on -- and I'm not good at predicting this the night before. Some silhouettes are more laid back and others are more structured and can be made more formal. But often, I simply feel compelled to wear a certain item, then revise my outfit to fit that. For example, some days are simply about featuring my burgundy suede booties -- my happy boots.

Katerina, I'm still trying to figure out the answer to your question. I think that I want to keep my wardrobe on the small size until my weight has been stable for a year, but I do expect that as my weight stabilizes that my wardrobe will slowly grow and the rate of item removal will decrease. I expect my wardrobe to end up on the small/moderate-sized scale. I generally like a substantial refresh each season, but am then happy to wear those pieces repeatedly through the season. I don't feel a strong need for duplicates and I like a reasonable turnover rate. Once I am a bit "off" an item, I find it difficult to wear it again. I think I naturally gravitate to a seasonal capsule and will continue to do an informal capsule challenge. I liked thinking about how I can mix up my items and accessories, but I am also very comfortable about wearing an outfit the exact same way.

I think Shevia hit it on the nose when she wrote "practical, particular and still allowing for emotional dressing" and SarahD8 wrote "no-nonsense". These are both very true. However, this challenge, plus the weight loss journey, has helped me become more in-tune with the emotional aspect of my dressing, a side that has always been there. This challenge has also coincided with a major change in my body image and I've only recently really 'awoken' internally to my new size. I was at this weight for a short time 11 years ago, and then it was probably 20 years before that. I wasn't unhappy at my heavier weights, and it is an internal image that I am finding hard to discard. I hear that this is normal. I think the rebuilding my wardrobe for my current shape is going to be an emotionally rewarding process and my wardrobe and outfit "rules" will need to be tweaked and updated.

For the next two weeks, I am going to continue with an even more limited version of this capsule, since several pieces no longer fit, and plan ahead for purchases that I hope to make during a visit to family and friends over the President's Day long weekend. I will absolutely provide an update after that trip! I know the key will be to restrain myself to my transition wardrobe rules, such as patience and no duplicates, and to not simply buy items simply because they fit. I think that Angie's advice to develop a style moniker and descriptors will be a key tool in my shopping trip.

Toban, I am really impressed by your discipline, your analytical and practical approach to wardrobe building and the way you listen to your feelings and needs, as well as your impeccable style. You have managed to create a fabulous and stylish transitional wardrobe. You are such an inspiration. It has been a pleasure to talk to you on the Forum and I so appreciated your thoughts, ideas and reflections, you have so generously shared with others during the challenge. I thank you so much.

What are your wardrobe plans when you achieve your goal weight? Are you going to continue with a smaller sized effective capsular wardrobe or aiming to build a larger wardrobe?

Toban, I'm so glad you decided to participate in this challenge. It has been great getting to "know" you better through the challenge, and esp great getting to see you! Your approach to your wardrobe through a time of weight transition has been inspiring, and I'm sure many of us have learned from you. I wish you the best on that last 10 lbs, and I hope you will continue to post and share your wardrobe insights here. You have a wonderful sense of style.

I almost always decide what I'm gong to wear in the morning. If I ever decide the night before, something changes. Unfortunately this means I rarely get things ready that need ironing, so I tend to go for knits far too often!

Fantastic job! It’s interesting to see your list all together. You’ve managed to make such a cohesive and professional set of outfits with a very tight, and constantly shifting, capsule. I am learning a lot from you about the proportions of items in a workable capsule, as well as about having a no-nonsense attitude about rotating things out when they are not working.

Toban, you really rocked your challenge and have some great ongoing goals. I imagine you will really enjoy choosing new pieces when the time is right. I hope you have lots of fun doing that!
I, too, sometimes change my mind in the morning. On Sundays I often iron a few tops and a couple of bottoms and leave them hanging in the laundry room. I might have time to change my mind, but I don’t have time to iron anything last minute. Changing out shoes or jewelry is something I can do quickly. Maybe I need to be more decisive.

Wrap up and final numbers. Day 29 and 30 in thread below.

Overall, I was very happy with how this challenge went. I found that my transition (weight loss) January wardrobe had a few versatile silhouettes. I enjoyed each combination and in the cold temperatures my two pairs of jeans were work horses. Most items got worn multiple times. I was not surprised that my sleeveless shells were worn infrequently given the temperatures. I had fun switching out the shoes and necklaces. I did not mind repeating clothing combinations. I am starting to plan my wardrobe and have a shopping trip scheduled in mid-February, but will continue with a tight wardrobe until my weight stabilizes and due to the budgetary challenges of replacing my entire wardrobe. Freshness will come naturally through replacing items that are too big. Because the fit is changing frequently, I couldn't just grab items and assume it would work, which meant that I had to try on outfits the night before days when I showered at my gym. On more typical mornings, I found that I rarely wore the outfit that I had set aside -- clearly an emotional component to that day's choice.

Counting clothes and shoes, but not necklaces or scarves, and allowing one substitution of pants due to fit mid challenge, I used 26 items. 5 items are too large and moved to donation pile -- 1 sheath dress I had planned to use, but was not included because the weather was too cold in the beginning of the challenge.

Bottoms:

1. Straight jeans (Days 1, 3, 8, 13, 15, 20, 24,28)
3. Boot cut dark jeans (Days 2, 5, 6, 9, 14, 22,27), will need to size down in next week or two
10. WHBM rose ankle pants (Day 4, 11) --> moved to donate pile.
Replaced with navy full length pants (Day 18,23,26,30)
20. Geometric print pencil skirt (Day 10, 16, 25,29)

Tops:
2. Teal cowl neck tunic (Days 1, 15, 24) --> at edge of fitting, consider replacing with similar weight tunic in February
5. Purple/black v-neck top (Day 2) --> tried on Day 22 and is too room in waist area, moved to donate pile.
11. Burgundy shell (Day 4)
13. Teal cashmere sweater (Day 5, 14, 30)
15. COS rust jersey top (Day 6, 12, 18, 22)
16. Cream sleeveless shell (Day 8, 16, 23) --> moved to donate pile
17. Teal shell (Day 9)
21. Merino rust sweater (Day 10, 22,29)
23. Burgundy cowl neck tunic (Day 13, 25,28) --> at edge of fitting, same size and cut as first tunic above.
25. V-neck navy cable knit (Day 26)

26. Grey Athleta t-shirt (Day 27)

Toppers:
6. Black asymmetric cardigan (Day 2) --> considering moving to donation pile.
12. Burgundy waterfall cardigan (Days 4, 8, 16)
18. Teal cardigan (Day 9,23)

Dresses:
8. Navy COS boiled wool dress (Day 3, 11,19)

navy sheath, not worn in challenge --> it was too cold in early January to wear and now is too big, moved to donate pile

Shoes:
3. Chelsea matte Burgundy boots (Days 1, 6, 8, 24)
7. Black 3.5" dressy booties (Days 2, 4, 10,19,25)
9. Burgundy suede black heel booties (Days 3, 26,29)
14. Bronze booties (Day 5)
17. Black moderate heel booties (Day 9, 13, 14, 15,28)
22. Burgundy block heel pumps (Day 11, 12, 16, 18, 29).
24. Navy pumps (Day 22,23)
