I'm also growing out my razor bob. In fairness, razor cutting is damaging over time and it was causing my hair to frizz even more than it already does. Also, razor bobs (or and kind of bob) aren't really that fresh or trendsetting. They are also, as I discovered, neither low maintenence nor very versatile. I really missed the versatility of long hair.

On that note, I wish side bangs would get lost for a while. Every woman and her mother AND her sister has side bangs. It's such a tired look. The kind that cover one eye really never appealed to me, either in terms of aesthetics or practicality.

One more thing if I can say 4... leggings and heavy sweatshirts paired together. Usually worn by those with slim legs and large upper bodies but it makes them look like mushrooms. I'd better be quiet and go to bed

I love yoga pants. especially those long pants that flare out and have fold over stomachs. Victoria's secret has a great stock of Yoga pants. I've even worn my black ones to work...shock horror as the bottom half of a suit.
But I hate cargo pants, knitted jerseys especially with big motifs (probably because they dont suit me) and there are these tops I see a lot of where I live where people try and hide their bust by putting a halter neck top of sheer material over their t-shirts....I dont like that.

Melissa, that haircut is gorgeous!!

I'd love to do something similar but I'm still scared after a really bad and really short haircut I had 14 years ago!

I hope the skinny jeans/tunic thing isn't quite over yet since I just barely jumped on board.

Do you all think that the skinnies with tunics thing is coming to an end?

re: short hair, I certainly hope someone will come along and make it trendy again. I don't look good with my hair long. I have an appointment on Friday and am probably going to go even shorter than now and get something like this (the cut in the second column and second row on the right):

I'm getting tired of skinny jeans for myself. I wore the look for a while and still do sometimes, but I just don't think it's all that flattering on me. I don't have a lot of shape and have kind of big feet, so skinny jeans just make me feel kind of silly.

I'm not really into the 80s revival, which includes leggings. I like how other people wear them but it just hasn't tripped my trigger.

Speaking of 80s revival I could pass on the bright patterned tunics that are in many of the stores. I went looking for a neutral or muted color woven tunic and all I could find was bright florals! Pattern and color is great, but I hope more subtle patterns come back around.

Mac, I completely agree with you about generally disliking the tendency of everyone to look the same. I stopped blowing my hair straight as much as I used to because I felt like I looked like every other woman walking down the street. And I stopped despite the fact that I think my hair looks better straight!

SERIOUSLY! Even though I have long hair and love it, I'm bored of seeing every woman with the same cut and length.

Remember Linda Evangelista way back in the day with her sexy short cut?
http://www.polyvore.com/rhapsodia/set?id=15228213

Could anything be less old lady, boring, lesbian, mumsy, or whatever it is that many people like to say about short hair these days?

I was disappointed when Gwyneth Paltrow, a trendster, cut her long hippie hair into a sharp inverted bob (which looked great)... but has already grown it out to be - yes - long and straight again.

What celeb will be the new Linda and start the stampede towards shorter hair?

Mac, I too would love to see short hair be more mainstream again. It's associated with moms and women of a certain age exclusively, which is too bad. The endless parade of long-haired models and celebrities gets really old.

Michelle - your opinion carries HUGE weight. Toronto trends I'm ready to see pass include tie-dye maxi dresses; clunky platform clog high heeled clompers; enormous slouchy purses and bags with too many zippers and studs.

NK - I hear you! These days, short hair seems to be seen as = mumsy and frumpy instead of sassy and fresh, as it was in past decades.

Mac, I know exactly what you're talking about with the long hair! I was watching some old episodes of Friends and thinking how much better Courtney Cox looked when her hair was short and styled as opposed to the later episodes and how her hair is now.

Do you remember 10 or so years ago when great shorter haircuts were all the rage? Younger women, older women, teenagers, everyone seemed to be getting great shorter cuts that made them look polished and put together. I keep thinking about getting my hair cut shorter for a more refined look, but I hear so many negative sounding comments about 'soccer mom' hair, I'm not sure what to do. Grow it out? Cut it off?

Now it doesn't seem to matter how stringy or damaged anyone's hair looks as long as it's super long. That's my gripe with the hair extensions.

Frances, I believe I will be able to divert the throwing of eggs and rotten tomatoes away from you and toward me:

1. Boyfriend anything. Boyfriend jackets, sweaters, jeans, whatever. I've never found them flattering. I have one cardi I think of as a "boyfriend" cut and every time I wear it I feel lumpy, dumpy & frumpy and swear I'll never wear it again.

2. Harem pants. Oh no. Please, no. Not on anyone, ever, for any reason, paired with any sort of top or shoes. (apologies to all those sporting them this season!)

3. Underwear that shows. This includes panties and bras. I may wear tops cut low enough to horrify all of y'all, but I can promise you that when I do you will not see my bra straps!

:-)

[I am impressed by how polite this thread is!

Whenever a similar one comes up on the renovation or home decor forums I read, people tend to FREAK OUT that someone is tired of/loathes white cabinets, granite, green, double showers, subway tile, professional ranges, French Country, yellow, stainless steel appliances etc etc etc!

Well, I have both harem pants and a jumpsuit in my wardrobe, so I can't say much! BTW, my jumpsuit is strapless so no issues using the facilities!

I will say that boyfriend jackets annoy me, just 'cause they don't look good on me at all; they hide my thinnest part and end at my widest. Plus it reminds me of some terrible jackets I wore in the early 90's.

Also, the voluminous top plus slim bottoms trend is annoying to me because they don't flatter my shape the way I'd prefer. That said, I would like to find a way to wear some form of this trend in a flattering way...

I can't stand tanning as a beauty trend. Two days in a row now I have had to sit next to women with bad tans on the train (in my opinion, beyond the usual darkening that occurs for all of us in the summer, all tans look alien to me, whether from a can, tanning bed, or the sun). Why women can't learn to just love their fair porcelain skin is a mystery to me.

The latest woman was just pitiful. Besides her bad tan, she had her wet hair pulled back so tight in a bun that her hairline was receding, and her eye makeup was flakey and nasty looking. I felt sorry for her. All the attempts at improving her appearance were actually making it much worse.

A few weeks ago I walked past a woman who was clearly a tanning bed addict. Her skin looked like leather. It was ghastly. She had long blonde hair and something about her appearance made me suspect she was much younger than she looked, and that her perceived age was just the result of the ravages of UVA rays. I wondered if her family ever expressed their concerns to her. It was really, really sad to see.

My opinions on this may not have as much weight, but here goes: :)

1. So-called tunics that just cover your hips. That is not a tunic. Longer lengths please!!
2. Super strappy, high cage heels. My feet hurt just looking at these
3. Denim jackets that are either too long and boxy or have excessive hardware on them. Also not at all a fan of the asymmetrical zip

Jewel-encrusted fingernails sounds so beyond revolting!

1. I will confess I am ready for some new silhouettes; the tunic-and-leggings look is just not doing it for me. I keep trying but...it doesn't look right to my eye.

2. Too-short skirts

3. Pleated pants

Ugg boots and skinnies, please make it stop it has been around for sooo long.

The type of ultra flat shoes or sandals sold which make your heels flat and crack.

Ultra high platforms, I've never understood the look.

I guess I'm on a footwear rant today.

On the beauty side I would say back combed bee hives of the Amy Winehouse variety, just comb your hair. Okay rant over.

I totally agree about the writing across the bum, t-shirts for children with smart-ass sayings.

Rompers look cute (or super cute even) on teenage girls, but not so much on those older.

I love reading these lists and one reason is learning about what fashion horrors are happening in other locales. In my city, there are many ugly trends, but I've never once seen bling-encrusted finger nails (but I did see plenty last time I was in southern Florida) or pjs worn outside, for example.

Hm, I can't think of any specific style or beauty trends (defined as those things you see in fashion magazines). Many of them go by so quickly anyhow, and I like how bits of each season's trends can be incorporated in one's style to keep it fresh.

However, I have some fashion-related peeves, for sure:

- leggings/tights as pants
- wearing pjs outside the house (c'mon, people. we don't want to see your reindeer flannel pants)
- writing across the bum

I can't think of three things, but I finally thought of one. I wish that men would stop wearing their pants hanging off their butt. I wish they would wear their pants more fitted. And I wish the young boys at least of Germany would get a proper haircut so that they don't have to tilt their head to one side to hold the hair out of their eyes so that they can see. Oh wait, there's your three. Huh. I think I feel better now having got that off my chest.

San - I always have to wonder, too, how women manage to go to the bathroom when they wear their one-pieces. I remember having a romper when i was about 8 years old and what a hassle it was every time I went to the WC!

I'm not too keen on jumpsuits of any kind including the short ones, rompers. This is a bad fad and I hope it has a short life.
