You look lovely in your new glasses and they are nicer than your old frames. I do think this is definitely a case of your son not wanting you to change. The men (husband, son and father) in my family are always exactly the same, they resist most style changes I make until they get accustomed to the new look and then laugh at old photos and how "dated" I look. Luckily I have my YLF friends to help me in these matters!

My dad grew a beard once when I was little and I wailed like a banshee, lol. It wasn't about whether or not he looked good. Made him shave it off.

I like the bigger, rounder frames a whole lot. I think you should go with this general style. But I do defer to Angie about eyes being centered.

The new frames' placement on your face could well be a question of 1) camera angle, and 2) fit adjustment. Most optometrists I've encountered will gladly adjust eyewear you've bought from them, as often as you need, for as long as you have the glasses. I'm again and again delighted at the difference made by their skilled hands. The areas for potential improvement that a few people here are pointing out might not be about frame choice.

The earlier frames are perhaps less conventionally flattering than the new ones are, because the top doesn't follow your brow, the lower outer corners are squared rather than swooping up like your new ones do, and the color is darker, so overall the effect is a bit stern. Yet it's a look I also wore and enjoyed. Frankly, I would still don those frames on occasion, conventional flattery to the wind, if only I'd held onto them. Alain Mikli isn't the same any more. Tortoiseshell with bits of purple. Loved them. Unfortunately, I listened to comments of people who didn't like stern and who already found too much of me too stern, too masculine, too mathy, too big, too outsourcing of "feminine" tasks, too casual on weekends. So when I damaged one hinge by walking into a glass door that was usually open, I moved on to specs more acceptable to my environment, and shifted to wearing contacts more often than not. Now I'm back in solid-looking frames, in a shape and color that are classically flattering.

Many members who are shopping for new eyewear post pictures of themselves in the frames they're choosing among, and get feedback that way. I prefer IRL feedback from someone with a critical eye; failing that, a fast data connection and video works pretty well.

I think they look lovely. I think unintentional hurt from family members is quite common and your son was probably commenting on the difference from the old pair. They are bigger, true, the fashions change. My own DH is not on the spectrum that we are aware of but sometimes has similar comments and when we both read the wonderful book "The Rosie Project" we realised he identified quite a lot with Professor Don Tillman! You might enjoy the book if you haven't heard of it.

I quite like the shape on you, and I think they are a great update to your old ones. I had the same thought as Angie, that they might be too wide for your face, but I'm wondering if your eyes look more centered if you look at them straight-on. Your photo is a little angled, so it's hard to tell.

Angie-

Any good tips on how to shop for glasses? I honestly feel a little lost every time I set foot in an eyeglass shop as to what to look for.

My son is 26 but is on the Autism Spectrum so he has zero filter so sometimes he can make comments that can come across as hurtful even if that wasn't his intent.

I like them better than the old pair!

I don't know how old your son is, but my sister is 60 and I am 58. We hadn't seen each other for 6 years, I had just gone thru exceptionally heavy duty health treatments and was bald. The first thing she said when she walked through the door was, "Your glasses are nerdy!" Flash forward 3 years, she comes to visit again, first thing she says on seeing me at the airport (I had a new pair of glasses), "your glasses are weird!"

Moral of the story - relatives have no filter (and possibly no taste!!!!!!)

They are certainly bigger than your old pair, but I think the new pair looks very on trend. When I see my more fashionable acquaintances wearing glasses, the frames are generally on the larger side, similar to yours. I think yours suit your face well!

I like them. They are so much "softer" than the angular lines of the older frames. They look fresh. Maybe your son was just reacting to the fact that they are quite a bit different from your older glasses.

My first impression was positive. I think the round shape suits your face and the line matches your brow line nicely. But glasses are on your face all the time and seen from many angles so I have a hard time judging from one picture. Hope others are more helpful!

So I went to get new glasses last week. I liked them when I picked them out but now I’m questioning if they look good or not. It might not have helped that as soon as I came home my son’s first comment was “they’re big”. The 2nd pic is my old pair.
