yes, that makes perfect sense to me. It's roughly how I think through my budget as well. Ideally most items will hit that $50 range, a few just for fun items might sneak in at $10 or $20 and at least one item a season will be a bigger ticket item in $100+ range. For me, summer tops and footwear can be the cheapy things but like most everyone, coats and boots and leather are the items that need a bigger chunk of the budget. But the summer stuff is only good for a season, maybe 2, while those coats and boots can be upward of 10 years' wear sometimes. Again, the CPW is likely to level out over time.

Jewel- I'm thinking seasonally for the type of items. From Jan- march, I'm focusing on things I can wear in spring and so on. But I will buy out of season if I find the right things. I'll also adjust the per month where I need to as long as I balance out in the end.
Mo- bear with me, this may get long. I want nice things but I also want to feel like my money is well spent. Using the 50 wears from your how much do we need thread and my old standard of CPW of $1, I'm limited to $50 per item. Most of what I really want costs more than that. I noticed that some of the things I buy are not more than $150, so I'm calling that my upper limit for everyday items. That doesn't mean I won't go over, but I'd call it a splurge. I do plan to do a couple of them this year. My $150 item divided by 50 wears leaves me with a $3CPW so I'll call that good. If I get down to $1CPW, I'll call it a steal. I gave myself permission to spend my upper on every item because I'm focusing more on fewer better items than a dollar amount, but I still have CPW rattling around in my head. Next year I'll probably focus on the money. Hope this made sense.

Shedev, do you have a $ budget this year too or just number of items? You mentioned spending your max amount on the R & B's.
I'd eventually love to get away from $$ limit altogether and just do limited number of items. Not that I can spend unlimited, but that when I think $$ first, it affects what I buy more than I want it to. Realistically, I'll probably always stay around under $2,000/yr.
After all, when I think about it, this is how my BF shops. $3,000 in suits one year, and then nothing for 8 months, then a few pair of premium jeans at full market price and 3 or 4 quality tees, then almost another year with no shopping. He buys what he wants when he needs it, and does not when he doesn't. Brilliant!

The new jeans are great, and I love the soft gray jacket!

I'm doing 24/12 but my numbers are broken down by season (six items for each) rather than limiting my purchases to two per month. This works better for me, because inevitably there will be months when I come across several gems as well as months that I don't come across anything I care to add to my wardrobe. As belts are a bit of a wardrobe hole, they are my exception. I'm allowing myself to snatch up as many good belts as I can find within budget. Having said all that, I made 9 purchases in January (*hangs head*). Two were belts so they don't count against me, but 7 purchases is still a lot for the first month of the year. Here's the best part, though...five of those purchases were from my list. The other two were impulse buys- scarves. I can't get enough scarves and handbags. I currently have two items pegged for February, but I could end up with four due to FOMO (fear of missing out). I recently found a great pair of gold gladiator sandals and a denim shirt dress (also on my list).

Lisa- I could easily do those numbers too. Boots are a wise purchase this time of year.
Windchime- rebuilding does require more purchasing, it's great that you are getting lots of wear out of your new stuff. My problem was having so much more than I could wear.

Your new jeans look great!

After a lot of January shopping, I put myself on SYC until at least March 1st. My dollars went a long way-- there were many really good sales, and I also thrifted a couple items. I'm in a wardrobe building stage and have already worn all the new purchases several times each. I'm looking forward to wearing and remixing the winter wardrobe I now have in place. My next purchases SHOULD be spring refreshers.

I'm not doing 24/12 per se, but I do plan to reign in my spending quite a bit this year. I was able to add some new items from holiday gifts so that helped freshen up my closet without touching my wallet.

For January, I purchased a new pair of booties, but that was it. Our winter has been wet and snowy and boots are getting a workout this season. But one item is a big step for me, I've been known in the past to purchase easily 12 or more in one month, every month!

For February I have white jeans on my shopping list, I've been saying all winter I want a pair so I'm happy they are finally in the stores.

Mo- nice way to work your overall plan. (says the girl eyeing a leather splurge)
Suz- do you think the jacket can stand in for a pastel? It may be as close as I come.
Caro- fashion sure can be feast or famine, can't it. You'll find lots of superfab stuff later.

I'm doing the 24/12 plan. I thought it would be fun for all of us doing budgeting plans (money or item count) to share our progress. My money budget is set to my max per item because I wanted to put fewer better items into practice. Next year I'm gonna tighten up on the $ some.
My two items were the Rag and Bone jeans I'm wearing today. I'll be looking for a less fitted version of the sweater. I ended up folding the sleeves of the jacket under.
beanie- Nordstrum Rack, their brand
sweater- Gap thrifted
moto- Kut Macys
jeans- RB in Mayan runway at TJ Maxx
boots- Fergie Command Rack

My other pick is the RB Ralley from ebay.
