I'm going to NYC next month for a long weekend and our plans are as follows:

Walk the High Line
9/11 Memorial (just the fountains, not the museum)
Guggenheim Museum (New Guy is a Frank Lloyd Wright buff)
Boat tour around the island (fun to see everything from the water and it gets you close to the Statue of Liberty)
Broadway show
Spend a lot of time in the bar on the roof of our hotel LOL

Other things I've loved in NYC are food tours with Foods of New York, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, and a fun walking tour of Brooklyn. If you go to the Tenement Museum, check out the awesome Vietnamese restaurant a few doors down.

I would follow your plan including the jumping up and down part...even if that is done inside...With only one day, I would probably do more people watching, more strolling to get the feel and pulse of the city...I think if I were only blessed with one day that I would probably walk through Barney's and look, walk through one floor of MOMA and again take in the ambiance of the moment...definitely eat street food...Just be there and have the natives wonder why this woman has such a grin on her face...I would be grinning...Have fun and know I am so envious...

Thanks Anne! I am excited even if it's just a day.

Suz, thanks for weighing in. I still have a few days to plan. Maybe I need an un-plan so I don't try to run myself ragged. It's my first trip to the USA in quite a while and I know myself. I will try to do it all and more. I hope I can force myself to have just a few things on the to do list for thurs and just walk and soak up the city.

Anyway, thanks again!

OOOH!! I would definitely walk the Highline if weather permits, or over on the East River -- the park there. Also I would walk from Tribeca through Soho and Greenwich and pop into some galleries. If weather is horrid, I would spend a lot of time in the galleries.

No suggestions - but have FUN! I last passed through NYC in 1996 and I wish had stopped and done things! Make the most of it!

It's been ages since I've been to NYC. Recently, watching movies and TV shows set there, I've really gotten the urge to visit the Big Apple. Well, guess who is lucky enough to be sent to the area for work? Yep! I'll be in NJ M-W and have carved out about 24 hours to spend frolicking around the city Thursday next week.

Problem is, I haven't been there in ages. I don't know how to focus my time. Of COURSE knowing me I must MAXIMIZE my visit! LOL

Unfortunately budget is tight, so shopping will be (mostly) out - unless I remember something I can't get elsewhere. Which of course is probably the case, this is NYC after all. Feel free to tempt me ...

So, what's a girl to do with a Thursday free in the City?

I've heard good things of the highline.

I am more of a Downtown girl (used to work in Soho, lived in Chelsea). Midtown doesn't excite me much.

Hotel reservation made for TriBeCa area.

First thought is to walk my tail off, something I enjoy immensely. Find a nice coffee shop for breakfast. Have some sort of baked goods since they're not so great where I live now. Maybe hit Balthazar, it was hot back in the day and apparently still pretty consistent. Eat street food with reckless abandon (well, I do that at home, too, but NYC street food is different!)

I love to walk, people watch, take the subway, eat well and basically act like a local.

So - what would you do if you were me??

Suggestions greatly appreciated!!

**squealing and jumping up and down**

Thank you, YLF!
