I love your style Irina. I think editing is hard when there is a substantial change. I think it will come.

For me I edit every couple of months as I see pieces that don’t work. Every two or so years I end up doing a more substantial edit as my tastes change.

Irina I also bought more this year than I have in many years. No regrets though. I want to reduce my wardrobe by a third too. I'm procrastinating though. One day the big edit will happen and I will be ruthless. For now I have the space and I rotate my stuff seasonally. I have started only taking out what I want to wear for a particular season, a seasonal capsule so I to speak, in specific colours. This is working quite well. Emigrating and retirement was a major style shift for me ten years ago. I will be 60 this February. Funny I'm less bothered by it than say 40 or 50. I think I have made my peace with it all. Hope so! Back to you, you are so dialled into achieving the look you want it is quite mind blowing and that this keeps evolving even more so. You clearly have the Style gene. Oh and No Buy months is a useful tool in my experience. Yes to working out core colours. It's helping me a lot.

You have such wonderful style IRINA, and a great eye for adding the pieces that enhance it. Retiring and turning 60 are some of the big milestones in life, it just takes time to embrace the changes that come with it.

I hear you on buying more than planned, it happened to me in 2025 too. I'm just going to enjoy what I added, guilt free and continue to edit out what no longer feels right for me at this stage of my life.

Irina —so I accidentally found that it was actually easier to have someone not into fashion help. Because they were not invested and said things like, what’s the difference between that blue sweater and this blue sweater-because to them a blue sweater was a blue sweater, which made me think outside of the well I might, well it’s a box. If that makes sense

As far as I can see, your style is already beautifully interesting and bold so why should you have to change it if you don't want? I am turning 60 this year and have been priming myself for a while. Seeing so many beautiful role models like you on the forum certainly helps.

Irina, chiming in with all the praise of your wardrobe and outfits! You always look so effortlessly cool, even though I know you put a lot of thought into the process!

Reducing the wardrobe by half is a huge shift, but as Carla says, it might be easier now that you have been away from the job for longer. I like your notes to yourself about where to set the bar. "There's nothing wrong with it," is one that I can easily get caught up on, myself, in my edits. But if I am not wearing it, well, why not? I managed to donate quite a few items like that this year.

I think re-selling is a great way to go if you have the patience for it!

The " there is nothing wrong with it" , and "would I need it later" thoughts are tricky, aren't they? That's too low of a bar to set, I agree. I'm actually cleaning my closet out right now and expanding into some new space - and hoping to create more space visually and mentally.

Pirouette, Helena and LJP, thank you.

Lisa, my plan is to be more critical with items that are leftovers from my working days and some blah casual things. These feelings “But there is nothing wrong with it” or “Would I need it later” shouldn’t cloud my judgement. I can keep some “special occasions “ things with very limited use but why to keep wool trousers that I last worn in the office? If I haven’t worn it in a while, it should go.
I plan to evaluate pieces as I change the seasonal wardrobes. I know that a lot of you donate your used clothes. I try to sell it. There is a downside to it - takes time to post & mail, unsold clothes takes space. But I will not feel that guilty if I can use the proceeds for my future purchases. It’s important to me as my income is so much lower now.

I also plan to reduce my shopping by 50% at least, so I hope that I will not add much. I already have all essentials I need.

Happy New Year Irina! I always love your style and find it both inspirational and aspirational. I don't devote the amount of time and energy into sourcing my clothes as you do, and it shows. But as you said, at this point in life (I'm 64), we are who we are.

I too would LOVE to downsize my wardrobe to about 1/2, and despite proclamations of same last year, didn't succeed. I think establishing my core colours will personally help me achieve this goal. How do you plan to work towards that goal for yourself?

Happy New Year Irina. I love your style it looks effortless and so cool. I I am 63 and agree we are who we are at this stage of life and if we have found what suits us why not just enjoy it. I find I am mostly replacing stuff in my wardrobe rather than trying new looks. Occasionally I will change but the change is much slower and planned rather than all the impulsive buying to follow trends that I used to do. Letting go of stuff is very hard I have lots of storage which is a bad thing for me as I tend to keep stuff’ ‘just in case’ rather than let it go. I have stored all my skinny jeans even though I probably will never wear them again!

Well, I’m adding my review of 2025 to the bunch :)
It’s been a year of learning and rediscovering my style.
I’ll keep it short.

The best: I had a successful purchasing year and enjoyed some nice findings. But the most important was two replacements that I’ve been looking for some time - a wool coat and dressy boots. Both are challenging to me in terms of the fit. So far, happy with both. The third one is a navy bag.

Not so great: shopped more than I planned. Also, not enough done in editing.

I accept that my wardrobe is not getting any more interesting or bold. I am who I am. And I should just enjoy it. I struggled this year with turning 60. I hope I’m over it.

2026 goals:
1. Reducing the size of my wardrobe by a third. This is a beginning of my editing process. I would like eventually have a half of my current wardrobe. I need to learn how to let go.

2. Introducing No Buy months.

Wishing you peace and good health in 2026!

Thank you and Angie for this wonderful place!
