I just ordered a “trial pair” of flat backed small dot gold earrings, that never have to come out. If they work out, will look for gold ones.
They call them nap earrings, which was great advertising, lol.
Having very short hair means that earrings can be darn near any size, and most sizes suit me, but small studs were not my thing till just now.
As a small person, I always rebelled against the dainty and played off size. As an older small person, I feel a lot more modern not going the Golden Girl route, though if I move to Florida…those balsa wood parrots are coming back into play.

Definitely spontaneous - within certain boundaries.

Earrings: Costume earrings don’t suit me for whatever reason. I have small gold hoops or balls, and a pair of small diamond studs (a precious gift from DH).

Bracelets and rings: I like chunkier bracelets and rings, and have a collection of silver and turquoise from a special craftsman.

For necklaces, I have several Carolee in gold-tone faux pearl and crystal from the 1980’s. Does anyone remember how nice Carolee quality was? I don’t think the brand exists anymore. And a gold Tiffany heart (also a precious gift from DH).

But I haven’t bought anything for several years, and haven’t worn much either - I’m living a super casual life right now.

I am loving that two-band silver ring.

I am spontaneous with jewelry--mostly earrings. Blingiest and biggest tend to be best, but I also love a good stud. I never need them, but I "need" them, and they fit my personality.

Beyond that, I will plan for staples, like a pearl set, or a simple silver necklace. Here are a few of my fun earrings.

I LOVE jewelry!

My grandmother had a jewelry business in the post war period in our country of origin. For a while, most of my jewelry was inherited and then bought by Mr bj1111.

Now I buy my own. Mostly 18k, which I justify as fleeing the country jewelry. Still adding to my collection tho more slowly. Earring and necklaces —bold, modern.

It’s a process. Those oval loops with the resting pearls are stunning.

@RunCarla—here is a selection of Huggies from the real real.

Jaime & cat2, looks like to have a strategy that works for you. I love scarves but struggle with them lately. Find them to be to fussy worn as accessories, so for now I wear it for warmth only. I have a few belts just in case but don’t wear them at all. But one can hope.

Bijou, for years I wore only the jewelry given to me as gifts by my DH. But in the last couple of years, I found that I want to experiment and wear something inexpensive and not too precious to me.

Roberta, I looked on Etsy for small earrings with secure fasteners to wear with hats and scarves during the winter. It is too easy to get it tangled in knits. Hope you will like the pair from Nordstrom.

Suz, hope Mejuri earrings will work for you. This season they have small chunky earrings in their inventory. I ordered in the fall a few, loved them but all were too chunky for me.

Dee, belts are great accessories, wish they worked for me.

Oh I love your silver and amber ring, but actually all your items look so refine and elegant.

I used to be a big earring person when I had shorter hair and didn't have to wear glasses as much, but now I hardly ever wear them, you can't really see them anyways with my hair this length.

No bracelets either, tried them but they feel too fussy on me. I do have a few necklaces that I've bought at craft fairs over the years, but I'm pretty particular about length and style. I'm like goldilocks, not too statement but not too tiny and refined either.

I like belts, and I am on the hunt to add a grey one to my small collection.

I'm about to weed out my jewellery collection and let go of items I no longer wear -- which includes many, many things. My style in jewellery has been inconsistent over the years as my tastes changed.

I'm now fairly confident that what I like best are chunky silver and gemstone/ semi-precious stone or pearl items, with the odd bling item for fun. Along with some tiny stud earrings. I say "chunky" but really most items are scaled down chunky, i.e. they are a bit chunky on me (a smallish person) but would still qualify as small on a larger person, for the most part. I do wear some larger statement earrings in summer time. But they need to be lightweight and simple in design.

I wear earrings every day, and also my watch, and I wear statement rings and bracelets quite frequently. Much more rarely worn are necklaces. I wear one perhaps once or twice per month. This may be because I have lacked the right styles for me. I'm not sure.

You actually inspired me to order a few pieces from Mejuri -- thank you! I am going to try them out. A pair of the huggie earrings and a small pearl earring.

I like the idea of amber for you. I also love that last earring -- very pretty!

I gave away a dozen watches and bracelets to friends this year, and kept only those that have personal meaning or that particularly delight me. Ditto with half a dozen bags and scarves. I have too much of everything and I very rarely wear bracelets or necklaces.

I would like a pair of silver earrings that are smallish and easy to put on. Very like your picture #5. :-) I have oversized (lightweight) silver earrings, but I want something that doesn't bump into collars and scarves. I have been eyeballing these cubic zirconia earrings from Nordstrom, and will probably pull the trigger next year. I like a bit of sparkle.

I have a small collection of jewellery and generally prefer to wear the same rings, bracelet and watch every day. What I mix up is my necklace and earrings.

In 2024 I bought some gold hoop earrings and a pink crystal necklace. I mainly wear items that have been given to me by loved ones, rather than being a fashion statement.

I tend to tackle accessories when I find a specific gap, like wearing out a belt and not having any other options in that color. But I also keep an eye out for when a different warm color is trending and I know there are likely to be options. That is how I ended up adding pewter loafers last year and eggplant this year.

I think it is a sign of true style when you realize what works on you and stick to it. Your new items look lovely and just right for you.
The only category of jewelry I specifically look for (and for the most part wear) are earrings. I do like hoops and other moderately large earrings in various colors and mostly find them on TheRealReal and buy them with store credit (at the rate of one or two a year). I do have a large inadvertent collection of mostly silver jewelry that I have picked up thrifting over the years. Same goes for belts, scarves, bags and most other possible things you can thrift .

Lisa, hope you find silver buckle belts. I must match my hardware metals, like bags hardware and zippers on jackets. Another reason to love summer - no jackets with zippers and I can take any bag I want.

RunCarla, I have earrings close to what you described. So far I had a positive experience. I find that what I like often comes from Europe and more expensive. I haven’t tried it yet but I might go for it next year.

Lovely new additions to your jewelry collection!
How was your experience with Etsy? There is certain styles/stones I was interested in ( larimar in particular ) and the prices on Etsy looked more in my budget than Macy's but I have no experience ordering from places other that traditional like Macy's, Nordstrom and such.
I like not quite traditional styles of earring/necklaces ( and on the smaller side as well ) and most of my favorite pieces came from Lucky Brand and some from Macy's past seasons collections. Currently I'm searching for more options in silver with some colorful stones ( real or not ).

I’m not a jewellery person, but I’m on the hunt for very small gold hoops. I have small ones that I wear for long periods of time alternately with small diamond sleeper studs. I want even smaller gold hoops - ones that barely clear my earlobe. The size some people use for lip of nose piercings. I want to put them in - and forget about them!

I’m more impulsive about other accessories - though I really wanted the new, larger, Uniqlo quilted half moon bag. When I knew it was going to be released, I stalked it! Made a trip to a local mall specifically to see if it lived up to expectations IRL - and bought it!

The red leather mitts and the wine red beret were impulse purchases, as was a rhinestone pin picked up at a thrift shop.

I didn't plan my belt purchases during 2024, they were recommendations from our eagle eyed Angie and all the belts have been excellent additions to help finish off my outfits.

I did plan my new handbags purchased in 2024. The green I added after including both a green belt and a green pair of sneakers to my wardrobe. The ivory crossbody bag was on my list for a little while as well because I have multiple pairs of light colored footwear. The burgundy bag was also purchased after adding a pair of burgundy booties.

I'm a big fan of matching belts and shoes to handbags, so I tend to add new bags after adding footwear or belts first.

I don't have a specific bag (or belt or shoes) on my list for 2025 at the moment. But if I saw a belt with a silver buckle I would consider it, since I wear more silver jewelry than gold and finding silver hardware on belts (or bags) is always difficult to find.

I like dainty jewelry and your new additions are lovely!

Last year I made an attempt to enhance my tiny jewelry/accessories collection. I wanted to see if adding bold and bigger earrings and some bracelets will provide another dimension to my outfits.
I failed.
I realized that I can tolerate bracelets on my wrists for short time only. A set of nice beaded bracelets are now to be posted on Poshmark.

Fail #2. I can wear a big earrings occasionally in the summer but not often enough to search for more. I have 3 pairs of fashion earrings and it’s plenty. I gifted a set of gold big hoops and a bangle bracelet to my DIL. I kept it for long time, it was a gift from my DH but I don’t feel comfortable wearing either. Looks lovely on her.

I went back to mostly wearing small, minimalistic jewelry. I added a couple of dainty shirt necklaces. And a couple of rings, which is new to me, I don’t often wear rings.

I’m more into silver for fall/winter as the zippers on my coats and jackets are silver and I don’t feel like wearing mixed metals at the moment.

Next year I want to add more amber in silver pieces and to look for rings (I wear a small size and it’s a challenge sometimes).

Below, new pieces this year. All bought from Etsy.

Do you plan for accessories/jewelry purchases to you are more spontaneous?
