Lisa, I like your bags, they are stylish and practical.

Cookie, I don’t have too much damage from my bags, probably because I use different bags and they don’t rub a same spot.

Update: unfortunately, the bag didn’t work out for me. It is a bit too large for my purposes. So, I will return it. Well, bags are always difficult for me.

I have a lot of really random bags. What I want/need is a good looking, not too sporty or gear-looking backpack that is LARGE enough to hold a pair of boots plus a laptop and other stuff (because I walk two miles each way when I go into the office and prefer to wear sneakers for that). I’ve been low-key searching forever (using a beat-up Herschel backpack at the moment).
More and more I am realizing that both shoulder bags and cross-body bags are destroying half my clothing by rubbing against my hip and making the fabric pill or break down entirely. I’m not sure what to do because carrying a true handbag or even a backpack all the time seems impractical at best. Does no one else have this problem?

I have sloping shoulders and crossbody bags are my favorite style of bag, followed by satchels/totes with two thin straps long enough to wear on the shoulder.

I added a few bags in 2024 (see finds) and even got one from Santa this year so at the moment, I don't have anything on my wish list for bags to start 2025.

However, I tend to like matching my bags and shoes so if I ended up adding a pair of colorful shoes to my wardrobe then most likely a matching bag will go on my shopping list.

Angie, wider strap slips off my shoulders more often than thin. It’s the main reason I’m interested in this particular bag.
I now wear crossbody bags in the winter so I can hide my hands in the pockets. I want something else for warmer weather.

Irina, there is a 50% chance that shoulder bag with stay or fall off your shoulders ;)

You might want to try a shoulder tote with a broader strap? Or a hobo bag.

I'm a huge crossbody fan - can't be otherwise walking around most of the time holding other things with my hands - like Yorkies!

I DO take off the crossbody strap and carry my bags by their short handles when I want to look dresser though. Nice switcheroo :)

Jaime, from what I can see posted, you have a very impressive collection of bags :)
Bijou, your small BoaBao is so pretty! My small, crossbody BaoBao is my most worn bag in the winter.

Janet, I was thinking about how basically the same bag works differently on us - I have a same BaoBao backpack in a lighter color but after I stopped caring my laptop to work, it is now an occasional & travel bag for me. I don’t carry enough things with me when I’m out for needing a backpack.

RobinF, it is always a win to find style of bags that work for you, whether they are crossbody or not. It’s been a while since I predominantly wore shoulder bags, so we will see.

Sal & cat2, looks like you both have great options already! :)

This year I added a pair of olive green Kate Spade outlet bags to go with a tote I already have. A very small handbag and a wristlet. For next year, I have a new leather travel tote on the way. And a light tan reptile pattern wristlet; I have shoes it will work with in a coordinating but not matching kind of way.

Your bag collection is stunning Irina and I like the new one too. It’s modern and sleek which both summarise your style.

I like slouchy shoulder bags in a neutral that isn’t black. Tans, off whites, rusts seem to work the best. I tried navy but found that less successful.

There are times when crossbodies are brilliant - I like them small for cards, keys and phone (and passport if travelling) - or for concerts or sport etc.

I have one satchel which I bring out about once a year.

I haven’t planned any bags for 2025 but I may indulge…..

I agree, bags are such a personal purchase and we all use them so differently. For my daily commute to work I just carry a large tote and my wallet/phone. But I do enjoy bags at other times. I don't really plan out my purchases though and don't have a great need for anything particular right now.

I am a crossbody fan though, always have been - small crossbody. I like to be hands free and shoulder bags get in my way. The only time I don't like the way they interfere with a look is if I am dressed up. But that is pretty seldom these days.

I really like that bag you have pictured.

I love to look at bags, but the truth is my bag style has definitely narrowed in the past few years. I carry the grey Bao Bao most days — it’s easy to carry (often just on one shoulder but sometimes in full backpack mode for total hands free). durable, neutral, lightweight, can fit a lot if needed, and still gets compliments everywhere. I also like that there is no metal hardware in gold or silver tone, so it just goes with everything. It’s really put a lot of my old bags out of commission. I keep a lot of them, in case I have a shift in preferences, but increasingly I’m tired of having those unused bags take up space.

Since the purchase of that bag three years ago, I think the only other bags I’ve bought were a couple of handmade bags (one at a craft fair, one in a little mountain town out west) that I wear infrequently but they have their uses. And a secondhand black Bao Bao crossbody that gets used a lot for occasions and city travel, since it dresses up or down nicely and packs down to nothing. I also got an inexpensive silver occasion bag because my old one does not fit a cell phone.

So, I’m really not in the market for more bags, more in an editing mode. I sometimes think about duplicating the Bao Bao backpack in black, but it’s not a need. I just worry a little bit that I’ll wear out the grey one!

I’m feeling very done with anything that is carried only by hand — if there’s no shoulder strap or crossbody capability, I won’t use it. No more clutches, no more satchels or bags that only have hand straps. I’ve even gone as far as having loops attached to the inside of a favorite old clutch so that it can be carried in crossbody or shoulder mode. I don’t use it a lot, but it’s a unique piece and sometimes it’s just what I want to use!

I purchased two bags in 2024, a large straw beach bag used at least weekly for a trip to the beach and a small Bao Bao that is my favourite small bag.

I have a large collection of bags but find the two most useful bags are a Bao Bao tote that seems to go with everything and happily does not slide off my shoulders and a LV satchel that I bought second hand - it is a great work bag - it makes a statement and looks professional.

The bag that I am likely to buy in 2025 is a replacement gym bag - I have been using the same one for the last 20 years to take my towel, sunglasses, phone and keys to the gym. Not an exciting purchase and I am very reluctant to replace the old faithful bag with something that is less functional.

As with everything else wardrobe related I have many bags. But I hear you about cross body bags - I still love them but they do mess with an outfit. My goal is to be free of thought about my outfit when I am actually wearing it (as opposed to when I am actually thinking about style, fashion etc.). I have been wearing some shoulder bags lately but some also slide off my shoulders.
Anyway, the bag you picked is gorgeous!

Suz, yes, bags are so personal. It’s also a category I struggle with the most. I really like your shoulder bags.

LJP, the bag is from Massimo Dutti. I have a few bags from them and consider it good value for money. This bag is burgundy and not available anymore. I couldn’t commit to this color, which I don’t wear. That is a dilemma - I like bags in color but can never commit to them. At the same time, I occasionally buy shoes in color. I think black is boring but it also so easy to style. So, this one in black is on the way to me :)
Minaminu, I love your Polene bags! I think I will like a slouchy bag, add a bit of a casual vibe.

Bonnie, if you get a color bag next year, please share with us. As I said, I struggle with color.

Karen23, hope you will find the one that works for you.

When it comes to bags, my goal is to have one that can hold most of the important things I want to carry in it (often including my cell phone and sometimes letters I'm taking to the post office) without becoming messy inside or looking overly large and clunky.

Also some sort of bag I can take to the ballpark, without risking being told I need to go back and hide it in the car. I have something I hope might work, but it's ugly.

I am OK with shoulder bags or crossbody, I've been using them for ages.

The bag you are considering looks really nice. If I decide to add another bag, I would definitely consider it so let us know how it works if you try it. I added two casual bags this year, one is a bit too small but works with many outfits so I made do with it and the other is strictly for long walks and works brilliantly. I have a lot of older bags that I have decided to reconsider but using a different one each month so see if I like it. Right now I'm using a Kate Spade bag (not shown) in a black fabric that is working well for me. I would consider adding one in another color next year. Some of my bags are shown below, the first two were added in 2024.

Super organized! I like your plan and think a brown shoulder bag would be a great piece for you. The piece that you showed seems to have a lovely texture too! Would you be Ok with the slouching effect?

I am quite happy with my current handbags. The only thing that I would like to add is a rattan bag for the summer but it would be difficult to justify the purchase due to the short summers that we have here... One day!!!

I don’t care for the cross body look anymore either . Like you , I only adopted it during the pandemic , but am not a fan of how it can ruin the line of an outfit or bisect the breast area . I have a couple that I’ll wear over a jacket in fall/spring but won’t be buying anymore . I haven’t bought a bag in a few years now and have been looking for one since early fall . Minimal hardware , if any , and no logos or tags . I’d go for brown or black . I don’t carry a lot so it doesn’t need to be very large . I have several really good bags ( in coloured leather ) I don’t use with any kind of regularity but still hang on to them - I’d never replace them at this point so I guess I’ll just keep them until it’s clear I’ll never use them again . I really like the one you’ve shown here ! Where’s it from ?

I admire your thoughtful and considered bag collection and really like your recent additions. Your bags add to the luxe feel of. your outfits in a very efficient way.

Bags are so personal, right? They have to fit what you need to carry, and have to be easy enough or comfortable to carry. They need compartments (or not) as you prefer. The colours and textures need to be just so. It is like buying jewellery.

I have temporarily given up on silver hardware, which I prefer. (Or no hardware.) At least for now...because bags with silver hardware that also work for me in all the other ways I need them to work have become very hard to find. I still have some older bags with silver.

I don't know if I will add a new bag in 2025. I added two last Christmas. I saw a beautiful lilac bag, just perfect with my new pants and on sale -- and it suited my needs in a multitude of ways -- but I felt I would not use it enough to justify the cost, so let it stay on the shelf.

My goal should be to prune my already fairly small collection and weed out that which I do not use or recondition it so it is better fit for use.

2024 years was a great year for my growing collection of bags. I added 5 bags, some of those were HEWIs like a nice backpack, straw bag and a crossbody with black hardware. I sold a couple, too.
My 2025 goal is simple - no more crossbody bags.

I only started to wear crossbody bags in 2021. After pandemic I had to buy a bag for my office laptop and it was too big for casual wear, so I started wearing crossbody bags as everyday kind of bags. I like to keep my hands free and usually don’t carry much stuff. The issue I had with them, however is that some straps were too long on me and I don’t like how a strap cuts into lightweight fabric across my chest when worn other summer clothes.

In 2025 I want to add a couple of shoulder bags so I will have variety in my collection. It has a challenge, too - I have narrow, sloping shoulders and some bags slide right off. But I want to try. Below, is one of the bags I consider.

Are you looking to add new bags in 2025?
