Jaime, thanks!
Olive Green, I’m not sure what exactly is exciting about wearing sweatpants I bought them during pandemic and even posted an outfit. Athletic wear was a novelty to me at that time but now firmly a part of my casual wardrobe.

Brooklyn, transitioning my wardrobe after WFH is easier. The pandemic brought not only flexibility in working conditions but continued with transforming office wear to less restrictive attire. I stopped buying strictly office wear in 2020. My main issue is that my wardrobe is a right size for a working person but too large for a retiree. At the same time, I want to be careful with edits.

RobinF and Evie, thank you for your kind words. Glad if any of my musings helped you in any way.

Irina, I love your carefully chosen wardrobe. I deeply respect how you value each item that has been thoughtfully added to your closet over time, and how you deliberately do not rush into editing them out. I would like to show more respect to my wardrobe as you do. Sometimes I edit out items far too quickly and regret it later on. Also, I frequently act on impulse and purchase new items without proper consideration. I really need to change my ways and ensure that the item fits great, that I am pleased with the quality and construction, that I feel completely myself in it, and that it will work for my current reality with the other items in my closet. Your post has been a good reminder to be more thoughtful and careful in both adding to and editing my wardrobe. Thank you!!!!

Those seem like very reasonable goals. You have a great closet already so anything added would just be for fun.

I love what you said about not wanting to get rid of clothes because of rules. It was a bit of an AHA moment for me. I have tried one-in-one-out and can't stick to it. Maybe that is why.

I think you have a very consistent, well thought out style. Already curated, as Suz says. I have similar goals to yours. In fact, I was thinking about making “curate” my word of the year. I want everything in my wardrobe to be carefully selected and loved.

Transitioning to retirement is not easy, but it does liberate you to wear exactly what you want to wear. I look forward to hearing about how it goes.

Agree with Angie - you have wonderful style and your clear headed analysis of how you want to proceed makes perfect sense. I especially liked I don’t like getting rid of things because of rules (one in-one out, ## of wears). The only question I should ask myself is “Is it me or not?”

Suz, thank you. I struggle to wear my “good” clothes at home with my very clingy cat. I have 3 crew neck and 3 turtleneck cashmere sweaters that are 10 years old and I wear them with sweatpants at home and to the pool/walks. I need to get out of the house more.

Jenni NZ and Sal, thanks! I’m trying to wear makeup more. I’m a true minimalist when it comes to it and have a handful of products but I started to use what I have. I remind myself to add eyeliner and blush to my often worn mascara.

Winter is hard on me, takes my fashion inspiration away. But we are going on a short beach trip soon. I hope for a break and recharge.

Irina, I think of your carefully considered (and already curated) style as "modern minimal luxe." Modern, because you have a modern sensibility, minimal, not because you want a tiny capsule wardrobe, but because you prefer clean lines and strong shapes, mostly solids, etc. And luxe because of the fabrications you choose -- mostly natural, beautiful textures, etc. You have put a lot of thought into your wardrobe and it shows!

I hope you will be able to find creative ways to wear these beautiful things in your retirement. I think it should be possible. For myself, I have found that even though I work from home, I still wear my nicer trousers as much or even more than my jeans. I find my wool pants comfortable and easier to wear in some ways than denim. Knits are of course no problem. Silk blouses and shirts can feel a little precious at times, but with a decent apron, they are wearable for most household activities. Jackets are harder to adapt, depending of course on the cut -- and I have almost eliminated them, much as I love them -- though I will always hang on to one or two.

Anyway, shopping less and playing more with what is there seems like a reasonable goal, and I think you are right -- it is a balancing act. Too much indulgence and we feel stuffed; too much deprivation and it sucks the joy out of life.

I retired early to avoid stress and I want to find balance in other areas of my life by shifting my focus. I don’t want to feel guilty with overconsumption but deprivation would bring unhappy memories of my past. So, it is a balancing act.

These are two very good goals and I look forward to seeing where you end up!

And I agree with wearing what you have. With WFH I don't have to dress for the office daily anymore but I still want my blazers and jackets to get used, so I've worn my business casual blazers with graphic tees and jeans, I've even worn the blazers with joggers, to get more wear out of those pieces, since I don't go into an office daily anymore. I've done the same with hoodies and sweatshirts, I've paired them with work trousers for something as basic and boring as running errands on the weekends.

This creative dressing has opened up new possibilities for me. Especially mixing business wear with casual/athletic wear. I look forward to what new combinations and outfit formulas you come up with during your journey!

You have a very stylish, modern and carefully considered wardrobe Irina, you understand your style so well and it is much admired. I wholeheartedly agree with wearing what you already have, as I mentioned in Jenni’s recent post, I mean why not really enjoy it after all the hard work that’s be done to acquire it. I too, have felt that the one in/one out rule isn’t the sustainable option as I once thought it to be. I fear it might actually lead to more unnecessary closet churn.

I am looking forward to seeing how you navigate your style in this new phase of life. Your 2025 goals seem like a very good start.

You've impressively and thoughtfully added to and subtracted from your wardrobe, and thoroughly enjoy your fab stuff - and the process! You are dead right to wear the heck out of your wardrobe items more frequently! Please do :)

With lifestyle transition comes style transition, so it will be interesting to see what you end up wearing this year. Keep us posted on how things go. I'm sure you'll come out on top!

I initially thought of joining Helena on No Goals for 2025. But I thought some more and figured that I do have goals for 2025.
In the last 10 years for the first time in my life, I had the means and time to indulge into fashion & shopping. I have done my analysis and reflected on the causes and reasons of such intense involvement. I will always love fashion and will continue following it with interest but this is the time of personal life style change.
What I do have now?

1. My wardrobe is on the larger size. I mostly wear natural fibers and with good care that I do, things last me long time. I started recording my purchases in 2018 and have 60% of what I bought that year and some older clothes. The main reason (and the most common one at this stage in life) for editing out - increase in size and body shape changes.

2. I don’t work now. It might change in the future to a part-time, volunteering but for now, I’m a retired person.

I’m so used to putting more effort into dressing for work and for occasional outings. I need to use my wardrobe more on a daily basis.

With this in mind, I have two goals for 2025 or more precisely, intentions:
Curate my wardrobe
Be more creative with what you have.

I love my clothes. I spent a lot of time and effort to have what I have. But I I should make sure that I get good use out my things. I don’t like getting rid of things because of rules (one in-one out, ## of wears). The only question I should ask myself is “Is it me or not?” I might have a few things I bought because I thought I should have them. When it comes to editing out, I do not donate my clothes. Unless there is a stain or damage, my clothes is not for a trash bin either. Unfortunately, I don’t have close friends with my size, I try to sell or give away for free. I’m planning on clearing my holding zone. I also want to evaluate and decide on what to alter to improve usefulness. I don’t want to rush and will work on this project through the year.

For the second intention, I started a more detailed approach - I’m taking photos when trying an item, saving more on Pinterest and doing more research. But the most important part is to remind myself to make an effort for those diminished opportunities to get dressed in something other than sweatpants.
Do I have any shopping goals? I have probably 4 HEWI items and would be happy if I find them. I also think about a lined wool coat. Mine are more structured and do not allow me to wear thicker knits under. But it’s a challenging purchase. If I buy a new one, I will be selling editing mine. But not before.

I have a couple of items on my shoe and bags wish list. Also, I’m into experimenting more with minimal jewelry and accessories But these are intended to enhance what I already have.

Overall, this year I’m into achieving the first two goals instead of adding more to my wardrobe.

Thanks to all who reached the end of this novel :)
Any suggestions and thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
