Well done. I like a “no” list too. It helps to prevent me shopping for my fantasy life or over indulging a trend/item that I like.

And happy birthday. It’s my birthday month too

I have a NO list for shopping and it has prevented lots of mistakes. I agree with Olive Green. The sweatshirt looks good with the swim top. Maybe you need brown shorts too.

Yes, the NO list is great. I often have something similar in the closet! And I know already that as pretty as some things are, I won’t wear them.
That sweatshirt is a great deep colour, and goes with the swim top.

Some sound goals for 2024. Tracking purchases in finds will certainly help to keep things honest, its easy enough to underestimate how much we buy, forgetting about an item or two or heck three here and there. And I like the “No” list too, I can easily fall prey to buying some repeat items when I already own enough of them.

Thanks everyone!
Helena, the JF gear I picked up is pretty basic - neutral tees, olive green nylon joggers. I want full chest coverage and a roomy fit in my workout gear and that is hard to find! I do find they do some essentials well - cotton flannel PJs at Xmas, decent workout gear, and I also got an organic cotton long sleeved T on sale for $12, while 100% cotton was a bit scarce at the GAP etc this year.

How do you find the Joe Fresh gear? I haven't bought in ages but they have some fun bright colours in store at the moment!

These are great goals for 2024. I love the idea of trying to combine multiple "wants" in one item. And you make a good point about "return churn" -- it's so easy to rationalize just trying something out but...do we really need to? There's an environmental cost to sending things back and forth of course and personally I burn out quickly on the buy-return cycle...so return churn tends to sap my energy for wardrobe management, for little benefit. Thank you for this excellent food for thought!

Love your purchases for this month -- they are all really striking, yet harmonious together. Exciting about your trip!

A wardrobe tracker is an invaluable tool! I’m happy with Finds and use it all the time. In fact, I was feeling twitchy about wanting to shop for an upcoming Florida vacation but decided to play with my Finds and see if I could create outfits for the duration of the trip. I realized that I could. This allowed me to look at needs vs wants with a clearer head. (I did add to my swim capsule!)

Brava, on making returns when you realized the items weren’t going to work. I’m with you on unlined wool coats. What’s with that?

What a gorgeous kaftan for your upcoming trip! Yay! I hope you enjoy it. I also love the houndstooth strap -- great idea to combine those wants.

Your goals and plans look excellent to me. I have almost all my wardrobe in Finds at this point and it is very helpful to me.I like seeing it all there, and making collections for various reasons.

That kaftan is absolutely GLORIOUS, and I encourage the four of you to get similar if not matching versions. What else is a girls trip for? Combining the no's or the wants into one list, or looking at them side by side, as you did with the houndstooth guitar strap is kind of genius. Why not combine two wants into one thing?

I am happy that you are working hard on your Finds, as I get a lot of pleasure and inspiration from looking at everybody else's Finds on a daily basis. I use Pinterest and Finds and a financial spreadsheet to track everything I own in various ways. I guess one never stops being an administrator!

*applause*

This looks GREAT, Jules! You are another who's feeling really good about their style and wardrobe. My toes are tickled! WELL DONE :)

Personally, I find the FINDS feature invaluable. It's SOOOOOO worth documenting your wardrobe digitally, AND updating it with additions and edits. Keeps me organized, and focussed at the press of a button.

It's VERY effective to have a NOs list!

A little time spent on hair tutorials is also worth it. Anything that makes life easier ;)

And go Team Bleu by Rod Beattie. Best swimwear in my book. Great suit, and I bet gorgeous on you!

Please carry on!

Long post ahead!

2024 fashion goals:

1) Put all my purchases in Finds (with the exception of undergarments and workout gear), and make monthly posts about my purchases. I really enjoyed Style Fan's monthly series a couple of years ago about how she made slow, thoughtful additions to her wardrobe. I want to keep myself honest about how much I actually shop - and keep! Which brings me to the next goal :)

2) Cut down on return churn. My wardrobe is in really good shape, so I'm at the point where I am ordering things I already own or have already rejected - not the literal exact same items, but variations on themes. I need to order less and more thoughtfully instead of chasing the thrill of the buy.

3) Shop from a list that includes NOs - this has already come in handy in that once I wrote down "something houndstooth" next to "guitar strap" I realized I could have a houndstooth guitar strap, lol! On the negative side, the NOs include not ordering jewelry from small makers online - although I enjoy the process and supporting the artisans, it's really hard to judge whether I will like the items on me in reality.

4) Continue making use of Finds to keep myself honest and build collections - seeing everything together helps me see how things work together, what's missing and what's already plentiful. I'm going to Costa Rica in May and have already ordered a couple of things - which is part of the fun of anticipating the trip! - but looking at things all together helped me realize I should consider a solid colour swimsuit next, as I have many patterned cover ups & swim tops already.

5) Learn better hair and makeup skills.

Returns: With respect to goal #2, this month I returned a blazer (perfectly nice but just not different enough from one I already have), a pair of carpenter jeans (I don't have any yet, but decided there's probably going to be something better coming - of course my favourite pair from the 90s set a high bar, lol!), and a Soia & Kyo wool coat of what I call sweater type - unlined, quite soft. I realized I had already ordered a previous season's version of the coat, assuming these pricy wool coats will be lined, structured in the shoulder, etc, but these are a different style and not what I want! I need to read between the lines a bit more to save myself return churn.

Purchases: in Finds, plus a gym gear refresh from Joe Fresh (5 pieces, for a total of 9 items this month!). More than I anticipated for sure. I needed new gym gear and had tried hard to find better quality/nicer items but finally went with cheap and easy. It is my birthday month and I got a small cash gift that went towards the deeply discounted Lole sweats. I'm also excited about the Costa Rica trip plans coming together (I suggested to my 4 girlfriends that we all get matching kaftans, lol!). I had my eye on the Rod Beattie swimsuit top since Angie had a blog post about the line and things finely lined up for me to order it.
