My biggest issue is when they run into some difficulty (e.g. maybe the fabric doesn't work for the silhouette I want), they don't tell me - instead they come up with a 'fix' &amp; present it to me as if nothing's changed (hence shoulder pads(!) in my made-from-scratch wedding dress, lol!) </p> <p>My sewing skills also suck - I can only shorten hems &amp; take in waists (all by hand). I can see them working well for you and they are much more interesting than the Crayola 16 pack colors I tend to favor. </p> <p>On alterations—I wound up running a bunch of stuff up to be altered, including those things that had to get pockets, at the last minute, because that shop that Astrid recommended is great. Since you’re planning to move in a year, go ahead and do it now, so you aren’t standing there shortly before a holiday hearing someone tell you “sorry, I didn’t get it done. On the other hand, the closet can also creep upwards in size, as mine periodically has done.
