The goal is actually for me to not have to work and just focus on creative and athletic projects I'm hoping by age 50, if we can have the house and all paid off.

Very successful year in every way - nice job on getting exactly right neutrals ( not an easy task - still working on mine ).
I'm happy for your husband and good prospects money wise in general - it's more important than ever to have 2 people working to full potential!

Probably not with those skirts. One is a 2 layer recycled Sari, so can be worn different ways. The linen maybe, but would take a lot of work I think.

My trouble with the light neutrals is the opposite, carlad. My skintone is medium and white and near white colors look harsh in contrast. A lot of people say they like to wear white when they're tan, but it's very different when tan is your year round color!

Flexible success seems like the best (or maybe most realistic) kind of success and you've certainly achieved that! I hope your hair feels happier to you soon, I well know what a drag it can be when it doesn't.

I can also relate to the frustrations with key elements of complements giving out. I think Suz is on to something about planning ahead, which is a big part of what I'm mulling for my own 2023 aspirations/plans.

I was wondering if the wrap skirts could be converted to pull-on skirts? Not that you need another project, I am sure...but such pretty colors! I would have a hard time walking away.

You’ve been quite focused this year and it shows. I hear you on the frustration with things that look easy breezy and the the breeze brings anything but ease, lol. I try not to be M. Monroe on the street grate, but if it happens, I’m more worried about the bystanders than about myself, iykwim.
On the handles—you’re getting them fixed so you can continue using those bags? I consider that a win; maintenance is part of owning anything over time (ie putting splits into pre AC buildings or getting new car tires).
Have a good 2023!

ETA congrats again to hubby on getting the PhD this year, and glad you’ve been sprung from the cubicle. Will you be moving this summer?

I wrote a lot about my hair before- but the short version is I swim. My hair got damaged and really thin. I had to cut it to a short bob. It's not awful, but I'd Much prefer having at least shoulder length hair again.

I generally don't wear skirts when it's cold enough to need tights. I did for a while, but rarely bother anymore. Those skirts are very lightweight too- one is silk and the other linen.

Cognac and burgundy are beautiful colours that add depth and richness to any outfit!

Like you I have an olive or brownish undertone to my skin and so brown leather goods are always an essential. But I have the hardest time finding brown bags! I’d be open to camel, cognac, really any shade…. But the ones available at retail all seem sooooo boring. It’s a HEWI for me. If you have a good cognac bag, definitely worth it to repair it.

Camel is a great tip, especially when cream or white feels too much like a 'colour' (that you have to cater to) than a true neutral.

Flexibility is key - I like to think of these as guidelines, rather than rules

I see what you mean about the wrap skirts - I actually wear mine with a layer underneath! I found a deep nude dress for this specifically (& for wearing underneath sheer mesh). It might not work in high summer, but maybe a minidress/ miniskirt worn underneath the wrap (with jussie's toffee tights under it all)?

Sorry about the bags though that's part of the reason why I could not be a true closet minimalist - I'd rather 'split wears' with my backup options than risk panic shopping!

Nice job. Camel would be a great light nuetral; very versatile. I’m quite partial to camel worn with cold navy. Sort of cools it down a bit.
It’s frustrating when something you are relying on, such as your complements, turns out to be damaged our worn out, causing wardrobe chaos! I have a similar issue, having ordered a black crew neck merino sweater, (which was going to make about 6 different outfits functional ) that now got lost in the post. The best laid plans hahaha!
It’s a shame about the wrap skirts, they look very pretty. I wonder if there’s any chance you could wear them in autumn with some warmish dark toffee tights under, possibly making you feel less exposed in the event of a minor wardrobe malfunction? I might just be clutching at straws though….

Trying to keep the number stable, due to space considerations.

Suntiger, I hear you on the wrap skirts. I ruled out two that looked pretty good on for exactly that reason -- I was sure they were going to fly open. For some reason, my Ripskirt does not -- I think perhaps because it's actually a size big for me (or rather, I was between sizes and went up rather than down) so there is a lot of overlap. That does make it a bit large on the waist but I just wear it lower. And I have very few blowing issues with it.

Another thing that interests me -- your complements, and how one missing component (a bag) can mess with your smart plans. I've had exactly the same issue. And you can't always replace these things or get them fixed in time for enjoying the complement. In future, I'm going to try to take a page from Angie and Carla on this. They plan their complements well in advance of a season and make sure everything is in working order before they are ready to launch. (I'm more...oh, I'll wait until the season begins and see what shows up in the stores...) Anyway, I think if I really want to get serious about this I need to take more care to ensure that everything I already own is still in good enough shape to use.

I agree you need to be flexible on purchasing, especially if you have to replace key essentials. I think some people don't even count those as "purchases" in a way -- I mean they just assume essentials get replaced, and "new purchases" are either investment or statement items. (Obviously, it all counts in the budget, but you know what I'm saying...)

Looks like you’ve done well. I’m with you on using a number of items instead of a budget. Works better for me, too.

Exactly! I bought both around the same time, but neither has gotten much wear yet. From now on, I'll only buy pull on skirts!

Oh, I have that same problem with my wrap dress. It definitely bugs me to have to be that "aware" of my clothing. I want to forget it, not be constantly worrying something inappropriate is showing.

The problem is they don't stay put. I bought these 2 this year, and I have the Ripskirt too- which is more cooperative.

They fly open in wind, so I have to pin them. I tried a magnetic clasp, but it stuck to other things and came off the skirt. Plus it seems like I'm always having to retie them. I thought wraps would be good for weight fluctuation, but they're definitely fussy.

I wear short, fitted sleeveless tops with them, like I would with any skirt with volume.

I love how specific your goals were, and it sounds like they did their job in helping to guide your focus and your purchases.

What was problematic about the wrap skirts? I have one true wrap skirt and one faux wrap and I find that, while I love the idea of them, I find them hard to pair with tops. I'm not sure how much of that is a "wrap skirt problem" and how much is just a "skirt problem" though.
