I like the sound of teal and clay together - possibly with some of the camel you’re trying to wear out? Burgundy, aubergine, and navy sounds yummy too. Nice palette.

Runcarla: I had a very businesslike collection of mostly navy, grey and black. For neutrals, I am leaving the navy and camel behind and giving army green and clay a try. Each has had a moment in the last few years and I stocked up a bit. I also narrowed down my accent colors to those that are most flattering, mostly warm teal, burgundy and aubergine.

Nicely done! I like your wearing out and restyling efforts - these are both goals of mine this year. Although I have adopted more current pants styles, I will wear out my skinny jeans under my long puffer and tall boots for local errands and walks, and save my newer pants for "outfit days" (eg. when my styling efforts will actually be seen at the office or friends' places). I have a couple of somewhat challenging older pieces I would like to restyle into my newer looks as well, and am already using several existing silk scarves as main accessories for my new winter capsule.

Jenni, I comment anonymously on two password protected blogs, but otherwise don’t have or want a social media presence. I won’t be loading anything into finds — I shop online and keep everything in screenshots so I can keep track not just of what I have but what I paid for each item.

Your plans sound similar to mine although you may be even more disciplined. I also try to wear things out or at least wear them 30 times if they go out of favour. I still have some pre-2018 items not worn enough as I made more mistakes before that.
I enjoy your posts but not sure I can get a handle on your style as you don’t post pics. Do you post any Finds either? Not sure. Your posts seem more philosophical almost.
Some sort of pics even of garments hung up would be nice?

I found camel to be a super useful neutral- it really works with just about anything to me.
Yay to wearing things out instead of tossing, but in my experience even a bit of wear on the "meh" things gives an excuse to send them out!

Suz, looking at my orders, it looks like navy was the alternative to black in 2017, so most of that capsule is from then.

It sounds as if you are making excellent use of your older items, remixing them into new combinations and creating fun outfits with them. This is the benefit of a deep closet (i.e. one that goes back over time). I'm amazed you wore out some items within the year! But of course that includes years of previous wear, as well.

I applaud your method of rather wearing out clothes instead of tossing them out. Also to consciously wearing out the ones you are not so keen on any more, not sure I could do that one. I struggle to get rid of pieces. I have been trying to practice one in/two out this year and have had almost success. The pieces I donated were either fairly worn out or I really did not feel happy wearing them at this point. For 2023 I am not going to be doing any major shopping (I mostly thrift) but rather shopping my own closet.

I took a close look at what I added this year and have a pretty good idea of what I wore out, donated, or tucked away for later.

1. Budget and Item Tracking
I came in $ 100.00 over budget for the year. With the exception of a couple of items, everything I added was on palette and not polyester. I will press on with this approach, as it has gotten me to prioritize what I really need.

2. Wearing Out My Existing Wardrobe
I made progress on shrinking my wardrobe not by tossing everything old but by wearing it out. I focused on wearing out the ink blue pieces I bought for work, and made a real dent in the collection. For 2023, I will press on with this project, and also start working on the camel pieces I bought when I was a bit blonder.

3. Restyling Work Pieces
Angie posted outfits with classic cardigans buttoned up or duster length sweaters over cropped pants, and I dug out cardigans from 2017 and 2018 and dusters from 2018-2020 to wear with my 2020 and 2021 crops. I wore out a duster but still have the rest in rotation to finish out the winter. I also figured out that my camel pieces bought for work mix well with the more casual army green pieces I added a couple of years ago. I am looking forward to the next year of fashion updates, as they will spur new ideas.
