Life the short version: dad's cancer, MILs death, loss of 2 embryos, loss of 3 pets, FILs move to senior housing, return to office and related depression, mom's hospitalization, mom moving in, and finally DHs PhD after a 10 year journey. I mentally changed a lot. I've had to be "the adult" and there's no going back to the happy go lucky ST. I finally understand middle age, not due to my own health or looks, but having aging parents.</p> <p>On to style! I had wanted to strengthen my neutrals, especially browns, and challeging areas (winter, casual wear). The result was good, but was a looooot of retail therapy upon office return (see finds). A lot was local- boutique and consignment, and the vast majority since July when my wfh ended. Less online than 2020. I've written a lot about how a wardrobe change doesn't fix the real issues, but it sure simplifies my mornings. Right now I don't need my wardrobe to be a source of creativity, I just need to dress and get on with my day.</p> <p>The result of the shopping has been lots of black and brown outfits, sometimes with a pop of color. I feel a bit more put together these days. I also moved to a less traditionally feminine direction- more classic, more structure, more suitable for a PhDs wife.</p> <p>My color of the year was dark greens, word was simple/quiet- to have the vibe of hiking in my woods. Didn't add much green but it's one of the few non neutrals I want to wear now. Simple/ quiet is more wardrobe than life for sure! </p> <p>I did buy a couple wildcards- the furry coat and pleather pants. I thought the furry coat was a little OTT but after seeing the pics, the color harmonizes with me enough to be fairly quiet. The pants have been a surprising workhorse and way more comfy than the pleather of my past.
