<p>What a challenging year - 2022 is close thankfully.</p>
<p>You have a wonderful fun, stylish, modern aesthetic and I agree with Angie - your hair has been the icing on the cake.</p>
<p>With online shopping a high number of returns is part of it - there's not much way around this.</p>
<p>All the best for your travel, I hope it goes well.

<p>Jenni, I’m sorry you had to go through that as well. My mom passed about 12 hours after she was texting me about Jeopardy. The pink Keds will probably have their moment. I bought them on super sale late in the season. </p>
<p>suntiger, this is very true. We have lost my mom, both my husband’s remaining grandparents and one of his aunts and one of his uncles in about a three-year span. </p>
<p>Thank you, Staysfit. The memories are indeed a blessing. I suspect you are right about shoes too. There is some fussing I can do but only so much. My feet have changed over the last couple of years, and since I don’t go to the office anymore for now, it’s hard to judge how well things will work out. </p>
<p>Thanks, Helena and Irina! I hope 2022 is kinder to us all.

<p>You've got an awesome wardrobe Christina. Sounds to me like you've survived a ton, learned a ton and succeeded a ton ... By any measure amazing accomplishments after a downright s****y year. I hope you have a restorative holiday season and wishing you a happier and more peaceful 2022 xx

<p>Christina, unexpected loss of anyone, especially a parent is awful at anytime, and I struggle to find something comforting to say since grieving is made harder with the added stress of a recent move, flood, Covid, and general uncertainty in the world. &nbsp;May the memories you have of your mother continue to be a blessing. &nbsp;<div><br /></div><div>Comfort in clothing is a good theme for 2021. &nbsp;I appreciate a cozy flannel shirt and think you have had much success in sticking to a theme that looks great on you and hopefully adds the coziness you seek. &nbsp;</div><div><br /></div><div>In my experience, shoes that fit are very tricky. &nbsp;I may think the fit is right, wear them outside and end up with blisters on my heel or the side of my feet. &nbsp;Sometimes I try multiple types of socks in an attempt to rescue a pair that is not working, but I am learning that shoes that do not feel good need to go regardless of the loss……<br /></div>

<p>Bring on 2022 (though we said that about 2021....hmm)! I hope you have a safe trip! No one ever talks about that part of middle age- illness/loss of parents. The media makes it out like it's all about grey hairs and such, but it's sooo much more an inner transition than an outer one.<br />
Great finds! Love the pink shoes especially!

<p>Lovely choices. So sorry about your difficult year. Losing a mother suddenly is hard- I have personal experience of that. She was making me homemade soup one day and was gone the next day.<br />
I love, love, love the pink Keds. You probably know I’m a sucker for embroidery!<br />
All the best for your holiday trip, hope you can stay safe x

<p><div><b>Angie and rachylou </b>- thank you I have gotten a few pairs of pants and will do a post on them if I have time tomorrow, or else next week. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Angie, </b>I know you had a hard year too. I hope the next is somewhat better. Hard for it to be worse on a personal level, not sure about the rest of the world though.</div><div><br /></div><div>Thanks, <b>shevia!</b> The churn with shoes is a pain, alas. I'm getting better at recognizing what might not work, though.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>It <u><i></i></u>has been a hard year, you guys, and it's not over. I am still traveling for the holiday--given my mom's passing I have things that really must be discussed and settled in person with my family for various reasons. I am very anxious about the possibility of spreading covid and will be wearing heavy duty masks in transit, etc. (I fully expect to get covid soon, in fact; I should be okay if so but it's a nuisance.) The news today is that the in-person full opening of my office is postponed indefinitely--my guess is the earliest they will reopen and expect me to start my hybrid schedule is March, depending what covid does. It seems like omicron might be a faster wave, which is awful in some ways....<br /></div></p>

<p>My dear<b> Christina,</b> you have had an absolutely awful year, yet you and your style are doing SMASHINGLY! You look better than ever! I am VERY impressed!&nbsp;</p>
<p>*APPLAUSE*</p>
<p>I suspect that the intuitive honing of what makes you happy with your style, and what feels authentic, is coming through more strongly than ever because you're soul searching, relaxing into it all, making informed wardrobe choices, <i>and feeling confident with your choices</i>. I love it :)</p>
<p>I think your new 'do is KILLER cute! And it complements your look beautifully.&nbsp;</p>
<p>You like playfulness and softness in your style - milk it. (High five! Me too).&nbsp;</p>
<p>I empathize with how tricky footwear is - despite being careful and thoughtful upfront. Not failures - just rotten luck! :(</p>
<p>You've found two pairs of great pairs of fluid pants recently. So good! Let the good trajectory continue.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As someone who also had a much worse 2021 than 2020, I hope that 2022 is better for all of us!&nbsp;</p>

<p><div><b>Mary Beth </b>- Boden is usually a winner on me. Thank you! As for the mules, I have yet to try petals.&nbsp; I did use plenty of foot glide on them, though. I wonder if they need to soften up. I definitely didn't get much change to break them in. If I am going to the office next summer, as&nbsp; I am supposed to be, that will be the time to find out. I need to wear them for shorter stints to see if they break in or not, too. They may end up being a dead loss, but I hope not. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div><b>JAileen</b> - yes, we do! I agree that the pink sneakers should be able to work. I need to get over some mental hurdle on patterned footwear. Spring will really be the time for them anyway.<br /></div><div><br /></div><b>nemosmom</b> - thank you! Yes, I am a pattern queen.I also definitely need my WFH home and my lounge clothes to be separate. I need that mental distinction.</p>

<div>You've had a smashing success with patterns this year, Christina!&nbsp; Big yes to prioritizing comfort while WFH and lounging - AND for having beautifully executed a distinction between the two!</div><div><br /></div><div>I see "you" in all these pieces, so I'd consider it a successful year, despite the frustrating returns.&nbsp; <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I'm another who is more than happy to see this year end.
<p>We have very similar tastes, I think. &nbsp;I really love all of your plaid and stripes. WRT busy footwear, I like it. Those pink sneakers are not super busy to me. &nbsp;They could give a relatively plain outfit some personality, like your plaid Doc Martens.

<p>You have some really fabulous successes in here!&nbsp; &nbsp;That Boden jacket is soooo cool, and I especially love that striped Boden dress, and your entire boot collection.</p>
<p>The good thing about your misses is, even if you tuck those away and bring them out in a few months, those colors will be beautiful all the way into summer.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>With the mules, I'm wondering if adding a non-slip grip inside, like footpetals, and some Bodyglide on the top of your foot, would help.&nbsp; &nbsp;

<p><div>What to say about 2021? For me, this year was even worse than 2020. I am glad to see the back of it, though the immediate future for the world is not super rosy. I focused on <b>stylish comfort</b> this year, unsurprisingly.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I don't "do" numbers, but I can say that this year I focused on:</div><div>
<ul>
<li> building out my WFH wardrobe in my new home. This means comfy, but not lounge, bottoms, and lots of knits, since for the first time we are not overheated in winter. </li>
<li>added a lot of flannel</li>
<li>added a loungewear, since I needed warmer items. </li>
</ul>
<p></div><div>I still want my silhouette to be more relaxed and less traditionally feminine. I am also less interested in traditional figure flattery. I think I'm influenced in my preferences now by living in Brooklyn, and my new French bob. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I also feel strongly attracted to the 90's themes of my youth, which are recurring in fashion - flannel, combat boots, and Converse.<br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Successes include <br /></div>
<ul>
<li>Madewell and Wit &amp; Wisdom Jeans</li>
<li>Madewell and BR knits</li>
<li>Boden dress and jumpsuit</li>
<li>Boden jacket</li>
<li>Madewell shacket</li>
<li>BR, LOFT and Madewell pants</li>
<li>White Docs</li>
<li>Converse sneakers</li>
<li>Sam Edelman and Pikolinos boots (non-black!)</li>
<li>EVA Birks</li>
</ul>
<div>I built a pink mini-capsule for my pink and navy Boden Jacket, too! Sneakers, scarf, hat, headband and gloves. This is the first time I've been so deliberate about that. I kind of wanted pink boots, but I feld off as my space for boots is full until I pass on some more. Things stop working on my feet often, so we'll see when that happens. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Mistakes (and potential mistakes) include:</div>
<ul>
<li>Sofft mules--my foot slides forward, and they rub the top of my foot something awful. This was not apparent when trying them on at home. I haven't removed them from the wardrobe, but have only worn them once. I don't have much hope, though, unless I keep them for special occasions only, when I don't have to walk on NYC pavement. That is a very rare occasion indeed, though.</li>
<li>Madewell white jeans - I have this silhouette in other colors, but this version is just too tight on the belly for my current preferences. I've already put them in the holding zone, but they'd only really come out if I lose weight in the next year.</li>
<li>LOFT green pants - they look fine, but again feel too tight on the belly when I wear them day-to-day, after I eat. I will try to keep for now. If I lose 5 pounds, they may work. If I don't, they will go into holding.</li>
<li>Keds x Rifle Paper pink sneakers - I will keep these for now and give them another try, but I really rarely wear patterned footwear (beyond something like a two-colored snakeskin). It may also be that I got these at the start of Fall, and the season for these was very short this year. They may see more use in late Spring. These were an in-person impulse buy.</li>
</ul>
<div>Pants and footwear are tricky, and I have to be very careful about buying them in the future. It's just so darn hard to gauge the comfort of shoes, though. I think anything with a heel above maybe 1.5 inch makes my foot slide forward too much, so it's probably time to avoid those. <br /></div><div><br /></div><div>I do need more pants, since I've passed on a few due to fit, so that's my focus for now. I need footwear much less, fortunately.</div><div><br /></div><div>Beyond those two conclusions, all I can add is that I did buy and return A LOT online this year. It's a nuisance, but for the most part, PPP worked out. I wish stores had more stuff to see, though.</div>
