It looks a lot like the lining of my waterproof coat when it is detached from the coat I think I'd want something with a bit more detail in the design but Uniqlo is certainly worth a look.  I'm chuckling at all the comments on not needing a super warm coat when only being outdoors to jump in/out of a car. It's generally true, but I don't have a heated garage, so it takes 10-15 minutes for either DH's or my car to warm up in winter. When we're going someplace close by the car does not have time to warm up by the time we get there :-)   RobinF on "2021 Dec. What about a Uniqlo lightweight down for your lighter coat? I have one from a few years ago that is a great coat for not too cold weather or winter indoors (shopping, etc). The quilted lining is attached with buttons around the edges and can easily be removed. I got a petite large which is just big enough to fit a fairly thick sweater even with the lining attached. It's been fabulous for winter travel to European cities (which we've done off and on for quite a few years around Christmas) because it's waterproof in case of rain but also quite warm although in Oxford England it was not quite warm enough for walking around for several hours. It has all the desirable bells and whistles - zip up pockets, removable hood, and zipper that opens top and bottom. It does make a little bit of noise when you move, like some Gore-Tex does.  The sleeves were too long so I shortened them, which meant shortening both the coat AND the lining, and I did it by creating an extra pleat/seam above the elbow so as to not mess with the button and buttonhole where the lining sleeve attaches to the outer sleeve at the sleeve cuff. My arms are proportionally a bit short so you probably would not have this issue.    It would not be warm enough for outdoor walking for me in deep winter, but might be just right for your climate.   I find EB fits a little bit slim, like Jcrew, which I would think would be perfect for you, if you can find the right size.  If you click on the find it seems to go nowhere but if you go to EB's site and search for it you'll find it.  You may know this already but EB quality is top notch.  Suz on "2021 Dec. It looks so great on you.  I own a dressy winter-ish (but not for true cold) coat that I bought on consignment and almost never wear. But I won't get rid of it -- it's perfect for those dressy occasions when it's perfect, and I can easily store it.  Tell me about the EB Girl on the Go insulated. I am wondering if it might make a good walking coat for me, if I can get a fit that I like. I often have difficulty getting a good fit with EB -- I seem to be between sizes.  rachylou on "2021 Dec. Chris, may I suggest keeping the dressy Trina Turk if you love it, it fits well, and you can store it. It will not date and it's luxe. It does not need to be a workhouse and terribly practical. You can wear it when you are not outside for long. In and out of the car, IYKWIM.... ETA: It's like my cape. I seldom wear it because it's not warm - and soooo not a Spring look. I generally care less about style and more about staying warm in winter, but I do want to look relatively current, so it is time. My  New England  winters are long and very cold, although not as cold as Ontario or Alaska.  For my morning fitness walks I have a combination of layers that works well, in various sporty styles, and I treat that as a separate capsule from “everyday coats”. I’m not reviewing that sporty capsule here. Suggestions, comments, all welcome!  Long Term Keepers - I don’t wear these a lot but every now and then .... <ul> <li>Eddie Bauer black hooded waterproof coat with removable liner. Workhorse for travel. </li> <li>AK Black classic wool blend overcoat</li> <li>Lands End black thigh length puffer. Very warm, but a bit too big. Might pass on if I find a replacement but not looking too hard.  </li> <li>JNY Black trench with removable liner. Similar in some ways to the EB one but this is a true trench coat. </li> </ul> Keepers <ul> <li>Guess Grey puffer jacket, new this year. </li> <li>LLbean Dark blue puffer – new this year (not worn yet) bought with temperature rating and longevity in mind. (Temp rating is 10F light activity/-40F moderate activity) Replacement for the burgundy one I’m passing on. </li> <li>H&M Grey Herringbone coat</li> <li>H&M Brown coat – almost the exact same style as the grey one </li> </ul> Time to Go <ul> <li>Trina Turk brown coat. NAS 2017 (my first NAS after joining YLF)  Not warm enough for my winters, but too wintery a look to wear in fall or spring. Have not worn very often. Needs to be re-homed to someplace with warmer winters than mine or someone who  doesn’t run as cold as I do</li> <li>Ann Klein Dark cobalt wool coat. Many years old, have never worn much. Has always been a bit snug. Prefer my winter coats a little looser and longer. Will donate. </li> <li>London Fog Burgundy puffer. This was a top pick and fits really well, but was disappointing in term of warmth (never as warm as I wanted) and quality. In the 3 years since I bought it the lining material has lost some volume and the baffle stitching is starting to come undone. Will donate. Already replaced with navy LLBean one listed above.</li> </ul> New? <ul> <li>I’d like to find a thigh or knee length puffer in a light color, with a slightly "trendy" style, does not have to be uber-warm.
