Great color stories, and looks like you already got lots in 2020 to lay a foundation. I think your idea to get things that are only one step removed from your essential is great. I think Angie once described this as a tactic for broadening your comfort zone too.

Big yes to lots of green! The "dark olive" Kettlewell color seems to be your "kermit green" IRL

Tacking wear and purchases can really highlight a set routine or a weak category in the wardrobe. Interesting point from Jenn, I wonder if different textures would be enough to add the variety that you are missing and still help you retain your uniform?

Ooh! Jenn’s comment about the interplay between uniform dresser and lacking variety is interesting. Maybe when you are tempted to duplicate, ALSO make sure there is one degree of separation (sufficiently distinct color, or your old pal Kermit green in a distinct silhouette, for example.)

It's so interesting that you came up with the twin observations that you lack variety AND are a uniform dresser. Those would seem to go hand-in-hand, but as Angie pointed out, maybe it's about finding variety within your uniform.

Your colors are lovely and make me feel like I'd like to just rifle through your closet looking at all of them together.

Also... I have a water bottle in the exact pattern of your first image.

This is a great summary of your year, and from the sounds of it, you've done really well at identifying your needs and problem areas. Plus, as others have already said -- your gorgeous colour palette! (Love "Kermit" green!) Seriously, you made some excellent purchases, and getting loungewear sorted in a year like this one was probably the best use of your time and money.

I wish I had some hints about knits. Alas, no....I swear that luck plays some role in this...

I would try Boden, though -- they're often better than others.

Such a pretty palette! I sympathize on the sweaters, so many brands offer good quality wovens at reasonable price points but then have dreadful t-shirts and sweaters. I am in the process of trying a bunch of different new-to-me brands to see which of their Ts and sweaters survive. So far the T winner is Splendid, their turtles and Ts are nice and soft and have lasted much longer than the other brands I tried. On the sweaters the surprise winner is Lilla P, which I bought without knowing anything about them.

Love, love, love your colours and inspo photos. Big churn can be frustrating but it sounds like you're moving in the right direction. I continue to make mistakes with knitwear as well. Agree that in-person thrifting is the way to go for sweaters -- new ones always seem to pill.

Awesome wrap up NM! I could have written your first two insights about myself, but since you did it so beautifully, I'll just copy and paste yours somewhere that I won't forget them.

I agree with others; you did a fantastic job and built a whole section of your wardrobe that you never had before, which is very sensible, especially if you think you'll be working from home in any significant capacity going forward ... why not have fantastic loungewear that looks and feels great and is suitable for errands? Smart and a good investment since these kinds of piece has longevity - so it's not like you'll need to refresh every season.

As to sweaters, interesting about the thrifting strategy; I may have to try this! And another area where it makes sense that you needed to buy ... as you say, it's a new climate AND you had to figure out how to get the right quality, etc.

And if you did a bit of stress shopping, well, I won't be judging that either *stuffs face with cookies* :D

And this palette is SO beautiful for you ... can't wait to see how it evolves through 2021. xx

Nemosmom, YOU DID GREAT, and continue to do so.

How satisfying to have accomplished a refreshed wardrobe - that includes loungewear! - so effectively and within the numbers you were hoping for. You focused on what works and why, and where the holes are too. You soul searched, stayed focused, and reaped the reward. WELL DONE.

Excellent that you identified that you need variety within your uniform way of dressing. Adding variety is great, but HOW you add it is key. The devil is in the details - almost, always. You know how to go forward. Wooohoooo!

Whilst you may have added more than you wanted in a perfect world, our world is not perfect right now, and it sounds as though your purchases were useful and in regular rotation. Interesting that you are a uniform dresser but I can see that with your lifestyle and climate that some things are just too fussy or challenging.

I am trying to minimise any more summer additions this year - I suspect come February I will add something but right now I want to save my budget for the weaker areas in my wardrobe - a mid weight knee length coat, a new puffer, and some practical but still stylish ankle boots.

Jumping on the wrap-up bandwagon with my own navel-gazey look at 2020!

I would have thought that being under stay-home orders for most of the year would have put a freeze on my closet - HA! I could not have been more wrong. If numbers alone are any indication, I seem to have been in wardrobe building mode for the last two years. Or maybe I just shop a lot when I am stressed...? Anyway, I added a lot (67). I purged a lot (76). Still, my wardrobe is smaller than it was at the beginning of the year. Here are my takeaways for 2020.

- Tracking wears: I started tracking wears last October (2019), and that has proven to be most helpful in determining what is working, and why, and also allows me to plan for replacements of favorite items.

Biggest takeaways from tracking:

I lack variety and have WAY too much duplication. I may have 8 pullovers - but, if 6 are similar shades of green (and similar in
silhouette), plus one blue, and one brown, they should count as 3
options; not 8. Same goes for my jeans - 6 pairs of similar full-length med wash boyfriend jeans are really only 1 option; not 6. I need to embrace Sal's "power of one".

Also,

I am a uniform dresser. Pullover+jeans or joggers, year-round. When I am feeling fancy, I will express it in a shoe or topper - MAYBE a scarf and jewelry. It isn't exciting, but now I know not to waste my clothing budget on things like skirts and dresses If I feel like experimenting, I should stick to one degree of separation (like a new pant silhouette) so as not to stray TOO far off-course and end up with orphaned pieces I won't wear.

- Sweater weather: I am in my third Chicago winter, and finally feel like I have this whole dressing-for-weather thing sorted... with my luck, DH
will find a job somewhere like Tucson and I will have to start all over... :D Anyway, why is quality knitwear at a decent price point SO hard to find?? I purged 18 sweaters due to fit and quality issues. Either I have no idea how to properly asses knits, or the pieces available at my price point are pure garbage. Enter secondhand! I added 6 thrifted sweaters and LOVE them. So far, they wash and wear like iron. Secondhand will be my first stop for knits for the foreseeable future.

- Loungewear: Pre-pandemic, my at-home/lounge capsule was comprised of demoted tshirts, tatty hoodies, and old sweatpants. I jumped on the co-ord bandwagon and finally put some effort into building a real loungewear capsule. Loungewear will now be seasonally appropriate pieces that are comfortable enough for long periods of sitting (not sleeping) or spontaneous bursts of housework, but look nice enough to leave home, or to hang out with another family. I can't believe I bought a tracksuit. *sigh*.

I did not get a chance to build a high-summer capsule, but I did add one breezy boho top, a couple of jumpsuits, and a pair of lightweight woven brown cargo joggers. Given my weird work schedule and uncertainty going into 2021, I am not planning any additional pieces for summer.

For 2021, I still need to sort out some goals. I know I want to build on some color capsules I have started (warm honey/caramel, kermit green, seaglass blue, chocolate), and texture is going to be front of mind. Beyond that, I am not sure. Ideally, I hope to have a slow-buy year and would love to reduce my wardrobe even more, but I need figure out a strategy around all of that. January will be a no-buy month as I sort my thoughts.

Thank you if you made it this far. Here is some color inspiration, a rare OITW WIW, and some favorite pieces from the year:
