You're such a classic. Your newsboy-meets-Katherine-Hepburn style is always a favorite. So glad you've got your rosacea under control (mine has been doing well for a while now that I've got a great tinted SPF in the routine). Here's to a very classy, healthy, and much more OTG 2021 for you and all.

Nice to read a positive wrap-up of this year! On your style goals, for some people, black is the easiest choice. I don’t think that’s true for you anymore than it is for me, so good job not buying it. On CTPS, I think you have a head start on texture because of your curly locks, which add pep to your outfits.

You had a shockingly stylish year, Carla. While so many of us are basically just treading water waiting for life to start up again, you are out there killing it. And this despite having to cancel an exciting trip early in the year and having so many of your fun retirement activities curtailed.

I loved looking back at your outfits and get so much inspiration from the way you build and remix your wardrobe.

Agree wholeheartedly that your style only gets better and has been on fire this year. Love that you have a palette and a clear sense of where you are going and how to get there. Very inspiring! And you ask fantastic forum questions. So thank you for being around!

Carla, you've really worked to refine your ROTG style and it is working for you SOOOO well. I love your new discovery of thrift / consignment and also really enjoy seeing your colour palettes develop. Plus, your signature items like the beret and red Cons add so much pizazz. I'll bet people recognize you on the street.

It has been such a stressful year in so many ways. But your positive, practical spirit was a real gift on the forum -- you started so many great threads this year, from challenges to more theoretical questions.

And THANK YOU for the masks -- they have been so fab for me!! BTW, I've determined that the second one you sent are actually a better fit for me, at least on the sides, for the ears -- Ii seem to need more length between side and ear or else I get those pulled down "elf-ears," even if the mask proper is fitting on the face. Go figure.

Carla, you're another who keeps on looking better - AND in the middle of a pandemic. WELL DONE :)

You are soooo in tune with who you are, and what you want to wear. You do the homework, and very wise and sensible, unaffected, and above all - patient! You get there your way and in your time after assimilating lots of info and keeping an open mind. I love your sense of ONWARD soldiers.

Great to hear that your skin and tummy issues are sorted. It HAS been a very stressful year - although your cool, calm and collected demeanor shine through no matter what.

You in that red beret = KILLER to the POWER of KILLER

Your positive fun threads have been a forum highlight for me. Lots of thinking which has been an excellent distraction. Thank you!!

Your style has been wonderful, you have always looked good but I think it is a bit more "what the heck" or "carefree" or maybe just confident.

I can't really pick a favourite here. I like them all.

I also like in person shopping however I have done more online shopping in 2020 with success. This has been around upgrading essentials mostly but it has been with brands that I know relatively well and pieces that are easier for me to fit (sweaters, footwear and running tights).

You had a great year! I can't wait to see what 2021 has in store. Of your outfits, I think #12 (gold puffer and plaid pants) is my favorite, along with #9 (denim, olive, white -- perfect palette!).

I'm looking forward to more in-person thrifting in 2021. The OBG discussions these past few months opened my eyes to how many of my longest-lived garments are from in-person thrifting trips. "They don't make 'em like they used to" coupled with "I'll know it when I see it"...

Love seeing your outfits of the year! Glad you're still supporting B&M shops. The thrill of the hunt lost it's appeal to me this year, cause the masks and stress of being around people inside. Definitely nicer to be able to try things on and check quality before buying though!

You seem to have had a good year despite its limitations and I love the direction your style is taking with the addition of more color.

Well done, Carla. I feel the same about on-line shopping vs being able to see and feel garments and their true colors, the fun. So far brick and mortar shopping is very limited and only a few people can enter at a time, if it is even open for business. We did order most holiday gifts for people but often were not happy and orders were hit or miss when filled. I long to actually go to a store. Do far it is arranging curbside pickup which is not much better than shopping on line, in fact, that is what one is doing.
Your pallet covers all seasons and is great for you. I especially like the camel/ tan for you with your hair, and red. You have light and dark neutrals and colors.
Your favorite outfits ...well, I can see why they are favorites, and you have a nice variety of silhouettes and colors across the seasons.

This year was about coasting, after a year of post retirement emotional and wardrobe churn (2018) and a year of rebuilding (2019). Without the focus of travel, the need and enthusiasm for new clothes evaporated, and with pandemic lockdown measures so did the means! Bricks and mortar shopping trips in March/April and October/November (with a little in between) is how I build my wardrobe. That didn’t happen in 2020!

What did happen? Well, after some January purchases (with a February trip in mind) I didn’t buy anything for 3 months. In May I ventured into the world of online shopping, with mixed results. I bought 8 items, but ended up donating 2 before the end of the year. After 4 months of lockdown, shops opened with capacity restrictions and precautions (masks, hand sanitizer, etc.) I shopped local independents and thrift/consignment, and the fun of shopping returned. Lesson learned: I like the experience of shopping, and I really love the hunt and the thrill of the find. Ordering (and returning) boxes of things isn’t my jam. I may be swimming against the stream, but there you are!

A total of 24 items were added in 2020 (17 new and 7 thrifted) - compared to 35 in 2019. 25 items were dispatched in 2020 - compared to 26 in 2019. So, the tally of items that I count as my ‘wardrobe’ (around 85) stayed the same. Of the 5-6% of my ‘income’ allocated to clothing, 28% remains unspent.

My ROTG lifestyle didn’t change much, so neither did my clothing needs, it turns out. As such, the make-up of my wardrobe remained the same. 13 tops in/12 tops out, 4 bottoms in/5 bottoms out, 3 shoes in/3 shoes out, 1 coat in/2 coats out, etc, etc.

As far as goals set at the start of the year: add colours and prints, limit neutrals - I didn’t buy a single black garment! Experiment with new trends. Were there any?!?! Do more Colour, Pattern, Texture, Shine - colour and pattern ‘yes’. Need to work on texture and shine.

Things I thought were settled? Hairstyle. Well, stylist on mat leave, then salon closures + appointment for December 29th cancelled amidst new complete lockdown effective December 26th = 6 inches of grow out and no real style at the moment. Rosecea? Some anxiety early in the year resulted in skin issues that took a couple of months to resolve, but everything is good atm. Weight? The aforementioned anxiety resulted in some weight loss. Though some clothing still fits - just a little looser, some has been dispatched to the ‘holding zone’ for review at a future date.

Goals (as well as colour and word) for 2021 are for another post.

Pics below - my palette and a baker’s dozen favourite outfits of 2020.
