Yes, and yes. The best collection of terracotta pieces ever.

This was so interesting to read, Jenn. I think you are spot on about the terra-cotta/rust. Great food for thought.

I must say your terracotta is a beautiful gorgeous neutral. Also, it occurs to me that a neutral and essential don't have to be the same. Like red can be a neutral but it can't be quiet like an essential...

Lol, Angie!

I know just what you mean about the graphic tee that actually serves as outfit glue. I don't have that, but feel like my hoop earrings serve that function - changing the tone of my outfits to make them more me. Terracotta is the perfect backdrop for your outfits.

Well, there you have it, then! Here are my other essentials, for those who like seeing them all together. I included one graphic tee, which might not seem like an essential, but it's my go-to...the one I pair with a print skirt or statement topper. I do have a small collection of other graphic tees, but only one makes the list.

(And Angie, TOO FUNNY about navy being Greg's "light" neutral.)

Terracotta, rust and the like are so beautiful, in particular on those who have the "right" colouring to wear them well, and I believe you are among those lucky ones. These colours can be quite versatile, so yes, great neutrals.

Angie, that is funny about Greg!

I had a thought, though. Is it possible that terracotta/rust/clay is functioning as my "light" neutral right now?

YES. Of course! Why not - and loving it for you. Sooo Jenn!

Greg's light neutral is navy. (I'm not joking...)

That gorgeous terracotta is probably my favourite colour. And I have ZERO of that in my wardrobe. Huh... Very educational to see yours and others finely curated collections.

I've been thinking about trying white again this year, but for the last couple of years, the clay has stood in nicely as a base for summer outfits. I don't really wear it in the winter, but it's pretty telling how every section of my closet has a bit of clay and a bit of black next to the patterned pieces.

Jenn, my guess is yes. Maybe not "light" but "mid-toned" neutral (which for you is about as light as you go except for accents.) At times, grey has filled a similar role in my own closet. I didn't include greys in my current collection because while they are important, they have not been essential to me this past year.

I put together a collection of my essentials a few weeks ago when we were discussing 5-Piece-French. It's mostly jeans, some cognac leather, black dresses, and black tops.

I had a thought, though. Is it possible that terracotta/rust/clay is functioning as my "light" neutral right now? And, if so, would that make these pieces into essentials in my current wardrobe?
