It starts with DH’s annual edit around his birthday (leading to a shopping trip in November, and a golf capsule refresh in spring). I edit throughout the year, but the end of October is D (ecision) Day for EVERYTHING. I literally touch every garment I own and decide to keep, toss, or donate. It doesn’t take long - I don’t own enough stuff to do proper Konmari storage!</p> <p>This year wasn’t as emotionally fraught as last year, when I parted with much of my old work wardrobe, a bunch of ‘gifted’ items that weren’t me, and 2/3 of my fitness kit. This year’s edit was about parting with items before they failed in some way. I tend to hang onto things until they wear through, getting embarrassingly shabby along the way. Most were 4-6 years old, with so many wears that they would amortize to pennies. The exceptions were a newer sweater that pilled horribly, my Hokusai t-shirt that I stained irrevocably, and a 3 year old black puffer with bad karma. Just putting it on made me sad. :-(</p> <p>The usual is to shop after the cull, but this year I started slowly building an olive F/W capsule through the summer, and then shopping up a storm earlier this month resulting in a beige/gold/caramel capsule in under 3 weeks! I am actually set for F/W with the exception of footwear. </p> <p>2019 saw a refresh of my fitness kit, and u-wear (bras and panties) early on. The next 2 months I will need to address winter footwear, and possibly some accessories. Specifically I need to replace an ancient pair of hiking boots also used for gardening, acquire a pair of low-heeled mid-calf booties that will close the gap when wearing cropped pants, and stock up on warm gloves. New specs are due after my eye check-up late November.</p> <p>I’m good with the moniker ‘Happy Tomboy’ as a descriptor and words like: Joyful, Colourful, Comfortable, Confident, and Connected to describe my style. (Red is my colour for 2019, and Joyful my word.) I’m loving the pleated skirt and wider pants-leg trends for changing up my silhouette. Sneakers and striped tops continue to be signature. Playing with autumn colours has been a revelation. I’m also experiencing mad love for puffers going into winter this year!</p> <p>My fashion choices for 2019 have been ‘bang on’ for the life I live (retired - SOTG (‘Senior On The Go’) and I am confident I can dress for any occasion that might come up, from the clothes I currently own. I look forward, with excitement, to the continuing evolution that is my style journey.</p> <p>#1-2 a more colourful closet going into 2020<br /> #3 WIW for a run to the dry cleaners after the sort </p>
