Congratulations! I know how difficult it can be to buy shoes for fussy feet. Your mint oxfords look especially lovely.

Ballet flats (often worn with in-soles) are my go-to shoes. In 2018 I have bought 3 pairs: rose beige quilted leather, black quilted leather, and light grey suede with a pom-pom. In addition I have bought a rose beige pair of patent sandals in Birkenstocks style.

Update on the Frye mint oxfords: the sizing is OK and the quality very good, but something about the lining seam across the top of the left shoe rubs my foot the wrong way So they're going back, alas.

Ah, no, KL are my "initials" in a funky sort of way... when I first joined YLF I didn't want to associate my fashion inclinations with the rest of my online persona, so K is the first letter of my usual internet "name" and L is the first letter of my real name.

I've de-anoned more on YLF these days, so it's probably time to change my username and icon to something more personal, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

ETA: I remembered how easy it is to change one's display name here, so I just went and did it As for how to pronounce my new name, well, "cakes" and "keex" are the current canonical options, but you can call me whatever you like, really.

Hi KL, yes been here long enough now ( almost 18 months) to recognise you. I wondered where you had got to. I remember your new glasses frames post especially and will use it when I finally get back to the optometrist. Am slightly overdue, was meant to go in January.
Every year can be the year of the shoe for me! I've got more picky though, trying to stick to flats or very low heels. I am a 36/5.5 but have 2 pairs which are 35/5. Similar feet to you it sounds like.
Does KL stand for Kuala Lumpur?- are you Malaysian?

cindysmith, I'm both a crocheter and a knitter these days (although crochet will always be my first love)... does that mean I get to buy twice the yarn? :D

3style, I don't need to be enabled for more shoe shopping, but, I won't say no The Kelsi Dagger sandals are so unique looking, aren't they? The fit is a bit wide, similar to the Bella Vita, but the elastic heel strap actually stays on my foot which isn't always the case with slingbacks. Yes, do try the Rothys if you need ballet flats or loafers! I've heard from others that they stretch pretty well for wide feet, especially if you size up, but IMO they were designed with narrow and/or low-volume feet in mind.

I will definitely report back on the Fryes, when they arrive.

KL, I’ve got the same foot shape as you do, from the sound of it. I know exactly what you mean regarding the fit of the Bella Vita sandal. We should definitely watch for each other’s shoe recommendations. I might try those Kelsi Dagger sandals. They look pretty enticing. I’ve been curious about Rothy shoes, and if they work for you, they will likely work for me.

I’ve found various models from Frye to run very small or very large; definitely a brand which is hard to predict. Let us know if these work.

Great buys! I bought soo many shoes last year when my feet swelled up during pregnancy and then again about six months after delivery when I was sure they wouldn’t get back to normal - qnd then they did (liz a, be warned to have patience!)... now I have a couple of pairs that are a bit too large, luckily it can be fixed with socks, inlays and other tricks. I bought one new pair recently but have my eye on at least two more. I agree that it seems a good year for shoe shopping: many styles in all kinds of comfort levels... If I could be sure it would stay this way next year, I could hold out some more but is that a good bet?!

RobinF: Yes, I don't like shoe shopping because it's so hard for me to do in-person, and ordering tons of shoe boxes shipped from online is hard to manage. Example: I was home in Delaware visiting my parents recently and we went shopping. I walked into Clarks, which I *know* makes extended sizing... and the salesperson directed me to two small displays in the back of shoes that they *might* carry in my size in the store. None of the pretty new sandals on display in the window, were available in my size.

If I could just indefinitely repair my current favorite shoes and keep them forever, I would do that! But I do wear out my shoes fairly quickly, especially summer shoes, and there's only so much a cobbler can do when the lining is worn out.

LizA, I chose the smaller of my two sizes (US5) in the Rothy pointed flats, because I always have trouble keeping flats on my feet. My foot is medium-width for its length, but shallow through the instep and very narrow in the heel. The US5 is definitely the right size for me, but if my foot was any wider I'd want to try a half-size up. And I've heard of other people, especially on the larger end of the size spectrum, sizing up too.

Yay for long-sleeved layering tee success, bonnie! I've been living vicariously through all of the Fabbers and their dress shopping this season, since my dress capsule is quite well-sorted. I added two sleeveless jersey dresses, which are a wardrobe essential for me, and that's it unless I stumble across something 10/10 amazing. Now I will live vicariously through you for layering tees; I am starting to move towards fluid tops, about two years later than everyone else, so I'm good on that front too.

Angie, I'm so glad that you managed to find pointy-toe flats this season, too! I agree that Rothys are a bit sportier than the classic pointed flat style; for my ultra-casual workplace, I don't mind. FYI for anyone reading along, the pointed flat does come in blush currently, but not in extended sizing: https://rothys.com/collections.....pink-solid (Suz, I unfortunately wouldn't recommend these to you if you don't like flat shoes. There's padding in the sole and a teeny heel, but they definitely feel like 0.5" flats, not 1.5" low heels.)

Diana, I think our tastes have some consistent overlap Your posts have definitely enabled me in the past! Love your blush sneakers. I picked up a pair of blush slip-on sneakers in the fall and have been wearing them a lot. We have athleisure to thank for the influx of feminine-looking sneakers, finally. And YAY for finding a footwear HEWI! Crossing my fingers that your new pointy loafers pass the stress test.

Christina F, my friend actually was wearing the low-top version of that same black-and-gold print, which I adore! Good thing that your pair is sold out, because I don't need more sneakers either.

I should not have clicked on your post, lol. Now I want all of your shoes! I haven't been doing a ton of shoe shopping (or shopping in general) but I have found a couple of good ones this season. I *might* have found pointy flat loafers (a very HEWI for me because of all my foot issues) that actually work for me. I haven't yet worn them out of the house though. I also bought blush sneakers which have been super versatile so far.

YAY, love that the top picks are working for you.

People rave about Rothys - and I'm THRILLED they work for you. They don't come in white or blush, and the sole and fabric looks too sporty for my style. I just got these from BR, and they work surprisingly well. Glad we have options!

I really like all of your new shoes but my favorites are the black sandals and blue oxfords. I haven't bought any new shoes so far, but last year I got four new pairs. I wear 8 1/2 size and it must be popular because it sells out fast. This has been my year of the long sleeve layering tee. I've added 10 so far and am still looking. I want the tees to look great with and without toppers. Some colors and color combos are hard to find and I've made some mistakes like the red and navy stripe and the white one that is too see through to wear without a topper.

What a great shoe year you've been having!

I have 2 pairs of Rothy's Points so far. I got the first pair in the larger of my two normal sizes, and they seemed to fit fine, but then really started to pinch on my toes after a couple of wears. So I went back and ordered a half size larger for my second pair. I haven't had a chance to put them through their paces yet. My foot is definitely wider at the toebox than the heel, and I'm also pregnant, so not sure how that's affecting things. What has been your experience with sizing?

2017 was my big shoe shopping year and I am still mourning some I did not get. I have fairly average feet but look for cute flats. No sandals, no heels...doctor's orders. I also never wear a pair of shoes two days in a row, so wear a lot of shoes. My best finds have been at Nordstrom Rack..Eileen Fisher, Taryn Rose, Blondo, Aquatilia, Munro and more. I can't resist comfort shoes that are very light weight and waterproof. Now I need to refresh my dressy shoe flats or kitten heels) capsule, but am tempted to wait until I have an outfit in mind..
You are wise to buy while what you want is available. Those you found are special.

*wave* to all of the elder Fabbers who may recognize me from some time ago... I felt pretty happy with my wardrobe this year and got pulled down a different shopping rabbit hole (hand-dyed yarn, Diana may be able to relate). Feeling the itch to analyze again though, and NAS is coming up!

Reviewing my 2018 purchases to date, I realized that this has really been the year of the shoe for me. I have fussy, low-volume, extra-small (size US5 or 5.5, Euro 35) feet and I hate shoe shopping. But I've kept 5 new pairs already this year, with a sixth pair on the way thanks to stalking Angie's top picks ;)

I don't know if more brands have started manufacturing extended sizing, or if shoes are just generally more comfortable these days, or what... but I'm taking advantage while it lasts and trying not to hesitate when the right shoe comes along.

1) Back during the post-Christmas winter sale season, I picked up these Jeffrey Campbell brocade booties for a song from Anthro. They don't have a zipper and the instep is quite a snug slip-on, even for my low-volume feet, so I can see why they got marked down so much; but once on, they are quite comfy and unique-looking.

2) An Angie top pick. I've been looking for a pair of edgy flat black sandals for 2 seasons now. I was skeptical of these in the photo, because they looked too chunky for my taste, but she is right (isn't she always!) that they look much better on the foot. Bella Vita can run a little wide for me but these have an adjustable buckle instep -- I can't wear velcro instep straps because they're limited in how tightly they can be adjusted -- and I ended up with the larger of my two sizes so that I didn't step on any of the decorative studs.

3) These Kelsi Dagger sandals aren't the world's most comfortable shoes, but they're fine for a workday or walking downtown for dinner (I'd walk half a mile at a time in them, probably not more). I was drawn in by the colorblocking and the blue/green color scheme; it's rare to find statement shoes that are not heeled and available in my size.

4) I haven't heard Rothy's discussed much around here -- if you haven't tried them, DO. I was skeptical because my feet are hard to fit in pointy-toe ballet flats and many such shoes will rub my heel raw. These felt like a CLOUD as soon as I slipped my feet in, and I wore them for 3 days straight walking around NYC without a single blister. The upper fabric kind of sticks to the back of my heel without creating any friction at all. It's magic. (Also comes in round-toe and loafer styles. Extended sizing is severely limited in color combinations, but if you wear a normal shoe size, there are tons of colors to choose from!)

5) While in NYC last week, I saw my friend wearing a pair of Keds x Rifle Paper Co sneakers and loved the print. Keds have been hit-or-miss for me in the past, but this pair has a little more cushioning in the heel and I LOVE the print. Again, the kind of statement shoe that I normally can't get in my size. The print is more teal/mint than blue/aqua in person, and that's my favorite color of all time. I'm not a sneaker person, but I think I'll be a teal floral sneaker person.

6) Just ordered: MINT oxfords by Frye. Crossing my fingers that the size 5.5 is small enough. My current pair of mint shoes, pointy-toe Franco Sarto flats that Angie recommended a few seasons ago, has been patched twice already by the cobbler but the quality just doesn't stand up to my toenails. I love adding a pop of color and these will bookend my (currently teal balayage) hair :)

All in all, I've found multiple HEWI's all at once and am glad that it still fits in my budget since I've otherwise been shopping less this year.

How are you all finding the shoe-shopping scene this season? Have you had any major scores?
