You all are keeping me honest. I am looking back at my budget software to create this list. It may not be a perfect list as my returns muddy it, but it's close, and a very valuable exercise.

Shoes: 13 (!)
bags: 1
blouses: 9 (one has been consigned, one will be)
t-shirts: 6
Jacket/moto/blazer: 6
vest: 2
sweater: 3 (1 LS, 1 SS, 1 turtleneck)
cardigan(long): 1
Jeans: 9
skirt: 5 (one has been consigned)
belt:3
shorts: 3
dress: 3
bathings suit: 1
cover up:1
hat: 1
pants/trousers: 2
outerwear: 3

I count 73 items! (not including bras (5) underwear, stockings and workout gear (6 pieces). I wish I had kept track of the number of items that I gave away. While the number of jeans I own increased substantially (from 2 to 11) the rest of my closet is more sparse than in 2015 and before. Once I started putting together outfits, I was mentally ok to let go of the really old/baggy, too small, unflattering clothing and the clothing that I had "inherited". The 73 items represent a lot of effort for me - identifying holes and rescuing orphans -- and a lot of guidance from everyone on YLF. So thank you for that! I'm so pleased with the change in my closet. It's a very peaceful feeling.

I was inspired to count my purchases, too.

shoes = 6
bags = 2
tops = 19
pants/jeans = 8
jackets = 7
dresses = 2
necklaces = 2
coats = 3
sweaters = 2
vest = 1
scarves = 2

Grand total = 53

I did not count undies, sleepwear, or hiking gear. 2016 was spent finishing building my wardrobe and I did not remove anything. My closet is now full and I think I have a good assortment for almost any activity. I'll join you in adding only outfits that "catch my eye".

What a great analysis. It sounds as if your purchases worked out very well for you. And when a person's size changes, shopping is in order! You've also done well in terms of the proportion of items that continue to work from previous years. I can't wait to see you posting some more outfits! :)

I've totalled my numbers also:

Footwear: 12 (including snow boots)

Bags: 3

Toppers: 6

Tops: 18

Trousers/ jeans: 9

Shorts: 1

Skirts: 1

Dresses: 1

I also have one item on the way to me, for a grand total of 52, which is about a third of my wardrobe. I retired the exact same number of items, not according to a strict one-in/ one-out plan, but a rough one. Many of my summer tops needed replacement this year as they were worn out from frequent wears. I updated my denim and trousers and added to my coat capsule without retiring anything there.

This total does not include undies, PJs, gear (except the snowboots).

Yesterday I did my annual review of purchases and I made many. I really should not be surprised because I lost weight the first few months of the year and had to purchase all new bottoms and many tops. Last year I also included underwear and pj's in my total which I had not done in previous years. All you numbers crunchers, enjoy!

shoes - 18
bags - 3
tops - 33
pants - 8
jeans - 13
jackets - 3
skirts - 1
sweaters - 13
dresses - 3
undies ( including pj's) - 7

grand total - 102

4 items from 2016 have already been removed from my closet. A Caslon pullover from NAS, Aritzia tee, slippers, and a Zara top. The last three did not surprise me because of the cost but the Caslon sweater I did not expect. I have always had very good luck with Caslon and I hope this was a fluke.

I also did an inventory of what remains in my closet from the previous years 2014 and 2015 purchases. The total number of items purchased in 2014, 2015 and 2016 is 238 and 185 items from those years still remain in my closet.

I do not anticipate purchasing as many pieces in 2017 if my weight stays as it is and I feel my wardrobe is in a really good place. I want to be very selective about quality and only add items trending in 2017 that catch my eye. I can hardly wait until Angie creates her 2017 Pinterest board for this year.
