That's about 4 items a month... Not that many when you look at it that way...

This year was the first time I did this exercise, too, and it made me much more deliberate in my purchases. My total was 36, and the most interesting part was to see the trends in purchases: several pairs of shoes were upgraded, replaced, or duplicated, a couple of fab jewelry pieces, and three terrific handbags (different sizes and purposes). Not many new dresses, blazers, or other staples in my wardrobe. Looking forward to seeing what this year brings . . .

I was curious enough to check my numbers. I didn't keep a list but all my clothes shopping was done online or when I traveled so I could reconstruct it. Here's my list:
shorts: 5
jeans: 3
pants: 7
sleeveless/short sleeved tops: 8
long sleeved tops: 15
shoes: 4
bags: 1
outerwear: 2
Total: 45

The total count is a shock because I wasn't working last year and was supposed to be on a shopping ban. However, the year also involved weight gain and travel to a different climate. The travel accounted for 1 pair of shoes, the outerwear and 5 long-sleeved tops. The weight gain meant I needed new bottoms... thus, 15 pairs shorts/pants/jeans. (I very rarely wear skirts/dresses.)

One pair of sandals didn't work for me but were great on my sister. One top bought on holiday didn't work when I got home. Sadly, continued weight gain means 3 pairs of pants are now tight but everything else replaced worn out items or filled real wardrobe holes and is in constant rotation.

Yes, I keep a list - actually for me it's more like a journal. I write down the item and the price and then track wearings. I would be the last person to say that 48 items a year is excessive. I did replace most of my shorts, pullover sweaters, and a lot of tee shirts and layering tops this past year. But yeah, a lot of shoes. I am getting rid of my super high 4 to 5 inch heels so I have that for an excuse.

It sounds like in the most part the items are working and being used, and some years are just like that. You are obviously a good thrifter Sara!!

My list was about 24 excluding gym gear, lingerie, camisoles and jewelry. And I did spend a bit on lingerie, sleepwear and layering cami's in 2015, which makes getting dressed much easier and more pleasant!! I have had a couple of duds too (one tee that I just don't like, it is grey marl with a pattern and I just don't feel happy in it, and a pair of pants that ripped and could not be repaired or refunded).

I think mint would look wonderful on you - white obviously but medium - light denim would be wonderful. I think you have denim shorts? Or the right grey or navy? I have made that same call with beige trousers and then found them not right at all. I have had two past pairs of beloved olive ones and one pair in stone that I also loved, and am now trying white as a light neutral.

I find lists so helpful especially when comparing year to year. I include all clothing items, gear and underwear, so I know exactly where my money is going.

I started a list but didn't keep it up. Most numerous were summer shoe purchases to replace the sandals I can no longer wear and uspecially EF items in bone to lighten my neutrals. I prefer this very pale grey to ivory and wanted to stock up. There were refresher items from NAS and Ebay. I wanted to buy just one new item a month but far surpassed that.

I had a computer crash in December and lost a lot of documents including my purchase list, but I am not shocked at your list because I'm sure mine was at least twice as long. If you needed those items, they fit into your budget and you're wearing them, it sounds like you did great.

I do remember I ended up being a lot of shoes in 2015. I didn't really intend to, but I realized how many of my shoes were old and on their last legs, or just weren't comfortable enough anymore. In the future I think I'll have to be aggressive at planning to replace my workhorse shoes regularly so I don't end up with so many of them falling apart at the same time.

I read a post at the end of last year (I can't remember who posted it anymore) about what she had bought over the past year. I looked at that list and thought, "wow, that's a lot of items" and then I thought about how I've never kept a list so I had no idea if that was a lot or a little for an entire year. I decided to keep a list. My shopping year actually starts and ends at Xmas because that always feels like the end of the year to me. I can start focusing on the rest of winter and spring after we pass Xmas.

Here's my list:
4 scarfs
7 dresses
7 shoes/boots
2 jeans
4 pants
5 long-sleeve tops/blouses
10 short sleeve tops
5 sweaters
1 skirt
2 shorts
1 jacket

I didn't include layering camis, workout gear and basics like socks and underwear on this list.

Thoughts:
I have to admit that this list sort of shocked me when I totaled it all up. 7 dresses and 10 short sleeve tops seems like a lot. However, I purged most of the older dresses from my wardrobe and I had several older tanks/tees that finally wore out and were purged this year. I added several graphic tees that I really enjoy wearing.

For the most part, these were all good purchases. Duds include a pair of black sandals (of course, I just can't get these right), a pair of beige slacks which I thought would be a nice neutral but are too boring, a mint tank that I can't seem to style with anything except white, and a basic white tee that just isn't right.

Anyone else keep a list? Does this seem excessive? I feel like I hardly ever shop and then I find out I bought 48 items last year. About half this list was thrifted but the majority of my duds were new items.
