Marlene, I could take a page from your book! I don't have any friends here and should get out and mingle more, myself.
I don't make actual resolutions but I do aim for better habits in my life. This coming year I am going to keep track of clothing expenditures and try to stay within a budget.
I also decided that when trying a new (to me) trend or type of item, I should start with only 2, at most 3, versions of said item. That way I can see if they work with my wardrobe and my lifestyle and if I truly am going to wear them or if it's just a passing fancy that didnt' really click with me. I figure that one light and one dark neutral, and then one colored or patterned option if I'm liking it, is plenty to incorporate without overloading my closet. So this year, 3 max of any new trend/item for me. That should help me keep within the budget, as well!

I'm not a big new years resolution girl but I do tend to set goals for myself. Last year I made the goal of making more effort to get established in our new community. So I volunteer more at the kids' schools and church and joined the gym and GO regularly. Being an introvert, I do have to make the effort to step out of my comfort zone. Also, as part of my getting-out-there goal, I made the effort to dress more stylishly so that I would stand out a little more. As a shy person, I need to look approachable to help when I am talking to new people. So I have to reflect and say that 2010 was successful and I have set some good habits for myself. I plan to keep all the efforts I made this past year!

So for 2011, I plan to be less lofty and drill down a bit....keep my closet under control by not buying too much...SYC a little more. I think I may not restrict my budget but rather start keeping track of it so I know how much I am spending. That part of my wardrobing is rather loose and abstract these days. I also want to get more focused on what my own personal style really is. I really admire when I see a woman with a clearly defined personal style. I want that too.

I agree with you Khris - I tend to find the only goals I set myself at this time of year are things that are more of an overall or general nature - all the really specific stuff just has to happen when it needs to.

Interesting theory MPJ - I wonder if it is true... I will have to try it!

Mary K I think that's the reason I've stopped to think about the things I want to achieve in the coming year - the girls school year is over so I've finally had time to stop and think!

I have to say I like making changes to my routine at this time of year because all of our usual routines are completely out the window, so after NY, when we get back into the swing of regular life, its easier to make changes and introduce them to the girls.

I used to be big on New Year's resolutions and the like, but then I heard that actually announcing your goal before you achieve it is a bad idea, and frequently leads to not acommplishing anything. The reasoning is, that just by telling someone, you experience this high/excitement as if you've already done it, and then you don't follow through! When you keep a goal a secret it is a motivator to keep working at it so that you CAN truly tell someone you've accomplished whatever your goal is. When I look back, that is so true for me.

That being said, I plan to focus on sewing, stamping, connecting with friends and health in the New Year...I will report back on goals reached as they happen!

I don't do New year's resolutions; because if you really want to make a change you need to just do it. But, we are in the midst of some changes and part of that is a new budget, and a new budgeting system. I'm also still in the middle of trying to get some of my health back and figure out how to do that- so diet/exercise plays a part as well. These are all really just ongoing things that I am working on.

I need to get a grip on my clothes and accessories shopping and spending, after going just plain crazy in the past few months! LOL

I'm definitely doing the spending tracking challenge, but that doesn't really count as a new resolution because this will be my 12th year of tracking every penny in and out of my life, by category.

I like to make plans and set goals, but I haven't had a chance to really sit down and think about 2011 yet. Tonight is my last class of the academic semester and I have next week off work, so I hope I can get to it in the next few days!

I've been reading about a few people making plans for 2011 Challenges so I was wondering what your challenges are?

* Me - I'm pretty sure I'm going to challenge myself to make as many clothes as possible

Also mentioned

* The Spending Tracking Challenge

Any others?

Do you make NY Resolutions? Any YLF related resolutions? Or just plans for the upcoming year?

Do you like to start each year with a clean slate?

My only other personal challenges are:

- I've been very bad with my exercise regime this past 2.5 months, so after the festive season, I'm going to get back onto that.
- Sticking to my budget! (I'm trialling a new budgeting system with ok results so far, so we'll see how it goes!).

I'm a BIG planner so this is right up my alley - I'm just not so good at the doing, so that's why I've only set myself 3 challenges for the year LOL

What about you?
