In the past I haven't washed first but when I had my first child, I learned of the chemicals they saturate the clothing in to resist mold, mildew, bugs, ect.

Plus my first had super sensitive eczema ski so I continued the practice.

I usually wear as soon as I can.

I don't wash new pieces before wearing unless they smell weird as Thrift Shop items often do.
I may not wear new items immediately but certainly try them on at home to make sure they are going to work as I expect them to.

I wash most casual wear items, things that I intend to machine wash as a routine. For hand wash sweaters I wear them first.
I am trying to be a hybrid of Wear Now. I'm trying to be sure items have so much appeal and relevance that I WANT to and could to wear it the next day. But I'm also aware of some buyer's remorse and also I will bring things home that need the " home mirror" test and outfit creation sessions to see the full value or unexpected glitches. Store lighting is SO bad ( plus middle- age vision!). Sometimes I'm trying to solve an outfit problem and will see, hmm , this is almost right but I should hold out for more...(color, fit, quality). Or I might compare to what's in closet and think, this isn't really any different/ better.
So I think about it as a one- week lag time/ cooling off period. That's not written in stone, but just trying to avoid emotional-fix purchases or settling.

I rarely wear a new item straight away, but once it's in circulation I wear it as often as possible. It sounds stupid, but it's almost as if the new piece has to mingle with the rest of my wardrobe first.
I never wash things before wearing.

I often wear clothes straight away but I have a few work outfits I bought in Christmas sales that I won't wear until I go back to work. I've just bought a blazer online and as it is too hot here, I won't wear for another 4 months.
I wash nightie's and under clothes but not usually other things. I do wash 2nd hand clothes thought. I might start washing everything after reading this though.

Funnily enough, as I type this I'm wearing a brand new tee I didn't wash first, but generally I try to wash before wearing. I definitely wash/dry clean before wearing if it was thrifted.

I usually try to wear things soon, unless I am saving them for a special occasion - I mean a specific event that I have upcoming, not just generally "saving them for something special". I do like to save new stuff and make an entire new outfit when I'm doing something of note; it attaches nice memories to the new clothes.

How soon I start wearing something depends on when I buy it. For example, I just bought some NYDJ cropped pants that won't be worn until Spring or Summer. If I buy something in season, it almost always gets worn right away. I always wash a garment before wearing it, though. It's an ingrained habit instilled in me by my mother.

Haha, I'm like Angie - I'd be happy to wear it out of the store! Usually I have to restrain myself from wearing the new item every day for a week. I love new things. I've even worn new costume accessories around the house because they're so awesome. Like these boots, which were so comfortable and super nice on my feet and ankles, and I didn't want to take them off.

It has pretty much never occurred to me to wash clothes first. I really don't care about chemicals and germs, I guess. And I know how the wash can change the fit that worked in the dressing room.

I have to admit I never pre wash anything I've bought in store before I wear it. I make about 80-90% of my own clothes and I often pre wash the fabric if I think it might shrink after making up. Sometimes when I have a new piece of clothing it can languish for a little while in my closet before it starts to be worn regularly, other times I wear it straight away, so I'm not at all consistent in that regard.

I wear the new item as soon as possible unless it's something out of season. I try to wash before wearing, but to be honest, I have gotten very lazy about it. I used to itch like crazy if I didn't wash first, but now that I am a little healthier (I was supersensitive from health stuff), I usually skip that step.

I wear new things ASAP because I'm excited about them, and I tend to wear them more often the first week or two than later on because I love the novelty of them. The exception is with things I buy before it's quite the right weather for them (like all the spring clothes I just ordered this month--some things that layer well will be worn now, others I'll be saving for when it warms up). My clothes usually don't get washed first and it's 100% because I'm lazy and laundry is one of my least favorite chores so I put it off until I have nothing practical that's clean and have no choice. I do my best to wash undergarments and swimsuits first, though.

I have been told that if we realized how many chemicals new clothing is treated with we would never wear it without boiling it first. Nonetheless I don't always wash new thing first. But I always wash or dry clean (at home or if need be professionally) second hand items, even if they seem fresh from the dry cleaner. Some things I wear right away and some have to sit around for ages, I am not at all consistent with that.

It seems I'm in the minority, I don't wear new items right away. I am working to change that though. Yesterday I received a pair of jeans I ordered on a whim and I wore them out to dinner tonight. And I didn't wash them. I usually only wash denim that has a tag saying wash before wearing and lingerie.

I wash most things before wearing, although I have made "emergency" purchases that I wear right away. Most garments are treated with sizing and other compounds to make them look nice on the rack/in the package, and they're not good for your skin. Same goes for bed and table linens!

Something like a hand knit wool sweater, I probably would not bother washing.

Also -- with rigid denims (heavy, all-cotton, selvedge types) many of the makers recommend *not* washing or washing very minimally. The idea is to break the pair of jeans in and let them mould to your body... I have very minimal experience with this process b/c all of my jeans are secondhand. :)

With shoes -- I've noticed more and more of them come with a strong chemical smell -- probably they are treated to protect against moisture, mold, insects, etc. Most of the time, I send shoes right back if I can't stand the smell. But if they're perfect in every other way then I will leave them out in the shed for a few days to air out before I wear them. I don't like the idea of them off-gassing in my house.

I wash nearly everything before wearing as I have sensitive skin. Once I saw how dirty the water can be, even on clothes that are new to the shops, it's hard not to wash :)

Even if I don't wear things right away I do play with them to make sure I can make enough outfits to justify keeping them.

I usually wear it right away unless it's clearly for a different season. I've never washed first unless it's something like jeans that I need to have tailored before I wear. Funny thing is, I wash all my kid's clothes before they wear them.

They say you should always the garment prior to wearing it. They list a number of reasons why this is a good idea. I try to wash everything before I wear it, but if I am being truthful, I only manage to do that about fifty percent of the time.

I usually wear the garment the very next day.

I rarely wear new things right away (they usually sit for a bit while my brain mulls) unless it fills a wardrobe hole or is a piece that will complete many outfits right away; I also do a lot of my new season's shopping at the start of the retail season which does not at all line up with the actual wearing season.

I'm about 50-50 washing new things; denim always gets washed a few times so I have a better idea of what the actual fit is like.
