Thank you for the input!
It's funny because while I didn't start out targeting it for work, I really like it with tights and and boots/booties (I'd try lower heels or more casual also to dress it down)as a fall/mild winter/cold spring outfit, and lab coat would over all anyway! The knit is very comfortable. If it is not just a "special occasion" dress, I could get a fair amount of use out of it. I'll put it through some more paces and see how it goes.
Jacket is staying. It's something I can wear with items that might not have the best color alone (white or black T or a neutral dress or skirt combo) but the jacket provides the color. I run cold enough to wear the jacket as an integral part of the outfit (for casual & semi-dressy /fun).

The dress looks wonderful on you. Each jacket looks great too. please keep the dress. My favorite jacket is the pink one. If the price allows, it would be worth keeping for the happiness factor. You will probably be surprised to find how many things you find to wear with it.

Ummila, that's it partly. Sometime the right curve in the skirts works out, though. So frustrating!
Firecracker, I could push up the sleeves or take up. I prefer not to have shorter length or waist length. Maybe this one is close but not close enough. It could be so fun otherwise. Good idea about layering the jacket - I can
see if that gives me more options.

I like the dress on you. I think it would be good take in the sides, and perhaps also bring the sleeve hem up an inch (so the sleeves come to just above the elbow), perhaps? Which makes me wonder: what about trying the same size in a petite? Just to check. It might be a little shorter, but perhaps that would work for you.
The blazer is really nice. I like it with the dress. Did you try it with jeans, with a shirt semi-tucked? I find that sometimes makes a shorter jacket look fine with my jeans, whereas I didn't like the look with a shirt tucked in the back.

The issue you are complaining about is one of the main reasons I have trouble dress shopping. And as far as I know, if you want that straight line down the side of your body, you have to get it with control hose. Or Spanx (I hate them and will not wear them.)

Thanks, Laura. I am going to try the jacket with lots of bottoms and see if I can come up with a "reasonable" range of spring-summer options.
Also here is the find for the dress

From the pictures I think the dress looks very flattering. As a fellow pear I feel your pain about dress fit - seems like they are always either too big in the top half or too tight in the bottom. But at least in photographs the hip fit is not unflattering or something I would particularly notice unless you pointed it out. I love the color of the blazer but I can see what you're saying about the length. It looks really lovely with a fitted dress like this one - do you have other outfits that you could wear it with, or would it end up not having many uses in your closet?

Here are 2 items from the NAS; the Taylor
sheath dress and the Olivia Moon linen jacket.

Angie was right that the dress is not very
body-con per se. But, it is a poly knit fabric and so isn’t as "hip -skimming” as
some wovens or more substantial fabrics. So, even with adequate roominess in
the skirt I get some hip-lumpage. I think the bodice would benefit from being
taken up a the side seam just a touch,
as there’s also a bit of extra room in the back—I need this size for the hip
fit but there’s no hiding the pear shape and that the top part is a little
roomy.

Shown with sheer hose, off-black hose,
opaque tights + bootie and 3 toppers-pink linen, EF moto, and sparkly
black blazer.

The jacket is another maybe. I LOVE the
color, full stop. It's
really the perfect deep pink that hasn't turned up for me in something that fits. But, it’s
kind of an in-between length—it’s not long enough for most of my pants or jeans,
and it’s too much for fit and flare dresses—it looks best with this type of
dress or pencil skirt, or maybe high-waist pants. For that reason, it can’t
really be a toss-over-anything jacket. Also, as 100% linen, it is creasy, which may
go against using it with more formal outfits, as opposed to a knock-around BF
type linen jacket. At the sale price (goggle alert) I’m considering keeping it for a high-happiness color factor when I do
wear it, vs. not getting enough wears.

So---I’d really appreciate fabber’s input
on the dress, along with any cautions on the jacket. For the dress, I love the print colors
and the overall silhouette, with sleeves and neckline, but am trying to decide
my comfort zone for the hippage issue. Is
it an unflattering lumpy pear look and I should
keep looking for my usual flares and pleats and more skimming fabrics?

Thanks for input!
