Thank you all, helpful and thoughtful as always! I'll be happy to hang on to them. I really love the floral and I was only worried about the style being dated or too young. As for the rust, I will try to make peace with the stomach issue or give a chance to shapewear if I can't. It's definitely worth it if it's YLF-approved

The sundress is so pretty on you, and quite timeless I think. It's perfect for its purpose.

I love the sundress. Keep it and wear it and think of your friend. I'd like it even better with flats (flip-flop style or ballet)--it reads 'hot night sitting in the backyard having a drink' to me! (I burn though--it could be 'hot day watching the kids in the pool' as well if you can take the sun ). It's a young look but you wear it well.

Agree with other posters ,you look great in both dresses. The very slight tummy you mentioned is not really noticeable to others viewing your picture . Happens to a lot of us females , we blow up anything we nitpick out as a "flaw" and make mountains out of molehills.
The red color is great on you. And the floral might also work for more venues if styled with a cropped jacket or moto to make it more transitional season.

Frankly both are nice on you...perfect hot day numbers. The red one is particularly flattering in colour and silhouette. Even if you decide not to wear the one your late friend gave you, treasure it anyway.

The red is fantastic. You don't need spanx.

Sometimes I find the best way to deal with keep or purge is to ask yourself if you saw it right now, would you buy it again? I think both dresses look very nice on you, not too juvenile or clingy. As for spanx, I wear shapewear even in summer. There are shapewear slips that would work under the second dress. I also size up, sometimes a couple of sizes, to get smoothing but not holding in. Make sense?

Surprised that I like the floral dress! It's very much a straw boater hat dress - you need one of those. And a summery brunch event. I don't think it's too juvenile.

I like the second dress too but stomach cling is my nemesis, and I hate shapewear. Sometimes pictures are not the real life version. And that is not much of a belly! But if you feel self-conscious, will you want to wear it.

Hello fab ladies! I have been super scarce but work won't relent and I have been spending the weekends frolicking on the beach with the kids. But I kept an eye on YLF blog and forum and I think I may have caught the minimalist bug. I tackled my dresses, I have a closetful, and purged all the summer dresses I haven't worn this season. The two in the pictures survived so far, but I'd like your advice: the first one I'm very attached to, because it was a gift from a dear friend who passed. I feel that it is my "countryside brunch dress" and I lacked suitable occasions this year. I am not sure about the empire waist, though, and I'm afraid it's too juvenile. My next birthday will be the big 40 and I gather dresses are girly! Second dress is my only "clubwear" option. I like the 40's vibe but oh my god, the stomach clinginess. Could spanx save it? Is is doable in the heat? Is it worth it?
I will be thankful for any kind or ruthless imput!
