Welcome! I'm thinking the black are a little better cut and length with the wedges, but that first pair is a fashion special. I think maybe with the first pair, a different top, more like the second one, and things would look more balanced with the shoes. You have a very trim figure!

I am no expert on PPL, but I think flared jeans are the trickiest, and long flares do look better almost sweeping them ground. I like the lengths of your pants here.

I agree untucked with the blue and white top - I rarely tuck myself, unless I have a very thin silky top and maybe mid rise pants...

Thanks to everyone for all the support and helpful comments. I love this place!

Firecracker - I agree the untucked look is better - this is the first time I've really taken pictures and looked at them. They really help clarify differences and they sure don't lie.

Barbara Diane - I made these (pic below) paper airplane earrings out of paper, silver wire and nail polish. I love them

Ledonna - Thanks so much! YFL is such a warm place - "light" is great description.

Beth Ann - I will try the tuck versions you describe. I think I need a primer on tucking. And I couldn't take those shoes off! So comfy! I kept trying them on with all my pants that are just a little too long. I am so stoked to be almost 5'5".

Welcome to the forum! Everyone is very welcoming and helpful. I love the pants and the fact you sewed them yourself. I am just getting back into sewing this past year after a long absense. I was suprised to discover how much I missed it. You should treat yourself to a pedicure. It is a such a wonderful way to pamper yourself and when you are done you won't be able to stop looking at your feet!

Hello Karen! Hello Karen's toes!

A wedge is a fabulous way to add a little height -- well done!
Firecracker, who is another sewist, makes a good point about length -- the wider the leg, the longer the length, in general. I'd check the length in 2/3 when you're seating to make sure they're long enough, but they look fine standing.

Love the floral top! With these pants, it works better untucked, in my humble opinion. I love partial/half/faux tucks and use them all the time. They work best with low and midrise pants with structured waistbands. With pants like these, sometimes a "drapey tuck" works, if the blouse is long and loose enough. Basically, you tuck, and then blouse it out all around, until you get the look you like!

Welcome! Both pairs of pants look fabulous on you, and with the new sandals. I'm especially impressed with the ones you made--they fit so well, and what a gorgeous, drapy fabric.
With the linen pants, I prefer your top out rather than tucked, and I think it looks really nice! I like Runcarla's inspiration photos for styling ideas on the linen pants.

Shevia - Thanks! I have had short hair for a while but about 10 weeks ago I went as short as I have ever gone (largely driven by YFL success stories) and I have loved it. I'm actually way overdue for a cut and was so focused on pictures of my hem I wasn't even looking at my hair. I hope my stylist doesn't see these!

Suz- You raise a great point on the pants I made - they are straight. I just measured at 15". I thought I had cut them wider. I will try pinning shorter to see, although I was trying to fully close the gap since my very pale skin contrasts so sharply with shoes and pants. They are dark navy - the white print actually is intended to run horizontal, but I cut them on the crossgrain to see if it would make me look taller. It is the first time I've sewn a garment in many years so I'm pretty pleased with myself and want to get the supporting act right.

Those linen pants are already pretty lowrise; you can see it a bit better on the model. I just have a very short waist that is not well defined. I may stick with untucked. Pictures don't lie - I hate the way they come up so high in back.

Runcarla -your pics are so helpful. Those looks are more what I was shooting for. I may need to make a new pair of pants with a bootcut. It is a fun pattern - flat front with elastic back, Talia pant by Style Arc. Although as good as the your pics looks, I can't go quite that long on hems - not practical for my life.

Trousers with sandals caught my eye this past spring, and I pinned a few pics to get a fix on the look. Below are 3 pics I use for inspiration. It seems a full bottom (like from a flare or boot cut) with a slightly overlong length is the way to go.

Welcome! Those look like super comfy sandals and so fun with the toenail polish!

I tend to think you are right about the first pants. I love the print, by the way. I think perhaps they are a slim straight and need to be shorter? The nice thing is if you do that you could wear with different heel heights.

Are the pants black and white? I am having trouble making out the colours. I would keep the rest of the outfit fairly simple in order to showcase them.

Blue top looks great with the linen pants. I like it worn out like this but to semi tuck you just...well...stuff the front of it into the waistband of the pant and blouse out. (You can also do a side tuck or various other options but the front semi is the version I do most often). Try it an see if you like it! If you are short waisted it might look better on you with a lower waist pant.

After discovering YFL and mostly lurking for months, I have stepped out of my comfort zone and bought some higher heeled shoes - the Clarks Clarene Award Wedge Sandal. It may be the highest heel I've worn since I was in my 20s. But soo comfy. And suddenly I'm tall! For me....

But the wedge presents some styling challenges. I made a fun pair of very light draped rayon pants yesterday to wear with them and can't seem to find the right hem length.
#1 is PPL I think, but I find it too puddley - there isn't enough leg width for it to go down the heel.
#2 and 3 are the length that is more comfortable, but does it look OK? And what tops/accessories would you wear with these pants?
#4-7 are a wider leg Roxy linen pant which I think I've hemmed correctly, but again not sure what to wear with it. The blue floral top is my best current option, but I'm not sure if it should be tucked in. I think I tend toward inverted triangle, petite (5'"2) and short waisted so I rarely tuck. I don't know how to make the faux and partial tucks that so many of you rock.

Any suggestions for tops/accessories for both pairs of pants are welcome.

Note: Not having worn sandals in many years, I just realized how much work having to show your toes is! I had to put nail polish on for the first time in a decade before I would take a picture. I copied Angie's white toe look because I had some from a craft project. Fun, but I think I need a professional pedicure now. Perhaps another first next week!
