I don't remember my 90s all-cotton jeans bagging out. I do remember them getting better with wear.

I personally don't find the 100% cotton to stretch much. I don't know what your laundering routine is, but I also find drying them shrinks them up a bit. For me, comfort is paramount, I can't stand too tight jeans, so I'd be leaning towards a size up.

I just did the shrink and stretch with mine - shrink in the wash, stretch with wear. But it's only in the few years that I've begun wearing my jeans more than once before washing!

I remember wearing tight 100% cotton jeans all through the 80's. I wouldn't sacrifice that comfort anymore nowadays. I don't recall any of mine stretching back then.

Really tight jeans can break at the zipper and wear at the seams. If it were me, I would go with the larger size and not sweat it if they landed in the dryer for too long if they are plenty long.

Hmm, both of my 100% cotton pairs barely stretch at all with wear. The denim softens but does not really bag out. Maybe after the third wear or so I get a little stretching? But I can also always get them to shrink back and stiffen by laundering them. One is a BF and one is a loose straight though, so I don't know if it would be different with skinnies.

ETA: Just by way of comparison, my 2% stretch Gap SBFs look a whole size bigger by the end of day (when starting out with freshly washed), whereas my 100% cotton ones look exactly the same as when they started.

Yes, i did the spray bottle thing in the 80s. I was young and very thin back then, and your jeans needed to be oh so tight.

I am older now, and am much more prone to choose comfort over style. I can't remember if my 80s jeans ever stretched or not.

My $0.02 would be to return both and keep looking. You want ones that fit comfortably yet will still look good if they stretch a bit.

I do have the size up! I'm just afraid they will stretch out and become too big. :T

rae, you made me laugh with the spray bottle explanation. I guess if it takes that extra effort to get them on, maybe try another size up just to make sure? I'll be watching with both interest and amusement to see what others have to say...

Maybe some of the ladies who loved the 80s will have insight here... I ordered a couple of 100% cotton jeans off Yoox. My size up fits perfectly out of the box, but I know my cotton TRs softened and stretched with time.

My regular size was a struggle to get on. I used a spray bottle of water to soften them up a bit, and now they button. Still not super comfy for sitting, but my inclination is to go with these so they stay a skinny jean as they soften up... don't need another BF pair.

Am I on the right track here?

ETA: photos. 1 is size 27, 2 is size 28.

I'm pretty sure I'm keeping one of them. Super in love with the wash and the 100% cotton and the fit. The 27s relaxed significantly just sitting here. DH said they look the same.
