&#060;p&#062;There might be something to Inge's theory in the sense that a count of replies is maintained separately from the thread itself. So I guess if you happened to load the page just after the thread was posted but a fraction of a second before the reply count was updated, this might happen.

&#060;p&#062;I think I've seen this once or twice too: if I'm not mistaken it happens when someone has just started a new thread and is still composing the message while you are viewing the first page of the forum. Once they are done writing and have clicked on &#034;submit post&#034;, the -1 disappears.
