We had enchanted pleasantries about how nice the day was, and I paused and let her get a little ahead of me so I could get a photo. She is one of the costumed historic Annapolis tour guides. It really is such a charming town. </p> <p>The “artist” observation actually came later in the day, in my other hometown Baltimore. I was in a historic waterfront neighborhood that also happens to be a big bar-hopping area with cobblestone streets and quirky boutiques. Sometimes people ask me if I’m an artist and I am never certain what they see that I do not? I think it may be because I am not “afraid” to wear color in a society where the norm (majority) is to wear neutrals and to dress in ways that do not stand out significantly. DD is an artist, so maybe I have a creative side....to me her gift with style, color and design is innate, which I think rings true when I think of your style. It seems you have a very natural aesthetic sensibility and can decide what feels right for you in the moment. DD seems also to know what works with very little effort, whereas I think long and hard. My ability does not feel natural or innate, and it does not come from a keen aesthetic sense as much as from my accumulated experiences, and efforts to learn about color, silhouette, proportion. In fact, I think my lack of natural ability in this area, in part, fuels the tendency I have for a larger than typical wardrobe. She seemed startled and asked me why I asked her about decor. I volunteered 'because you dress with such wonderful personal style! I'd like to hear what you think.' She then told me that prior to retiring, she had worked in interior design. She still helps friends, but she didn't want to 'work' for free. We had a laugh, because I told her I had no idea and I was mortified that she might think I was presuming. She actually DID give me some good advice though, and now we are friends. :-)</p> <p>Janet, I think many creatives do dress with flair which sets them apart. Artists may also more quickly understand and appreciate one of a kind clothes and accessories and support other artists by wearing their work. I laughed and asked why he thought that, and he said “You have the vibe.” He’s an artist too (a glass artist with a business operating out of Portland, OR). We had a brief conversation so it was a pleasant exchange. </p> <p>Beautiful weather here today. Mid 70s but breezy and low humidity. I wish every day in summer were like this! So I took the opportunity to wear sleeves. The dress is a few years old from Anthro. </p> <p>Bonus pics from my walk/run this morning. </p>
