Oh, I am with Style Fan on that. I can't give it my true age because if I do, it gives me a completely wrong size. I regularly tell it I am younger and it is generally more accurate (for me) when I do that.

Style Fan I would suspect it’s based on average proportions at different ages, and yours are possibly closer to a younger woman’s, on average. Everyone is different but my own proportions (specifically waist to hip ratio) have changed a lot from youth to perimenopause and I believe that’s common if not universal. Interesting as it does imply the tool has a bit more going on than unfrumped has found. But at the same time, shows the pitfalls of averaging anything about weight/size. However being asked my age does give me more confidence in a tool because I know how my body has changed over the years. ‘Horses for Courses’ to quote Angie.

Yes I think its just another data gathering reference point for the marketing department, with no real size assessment happening.

I never fill out the 'similar brands you fit' section (partially because I don't get/ wear most of the brands listed over here - but also the ones I *do* get tend to have wildly inconsistent sizing numbers anyway) :P
I just enter my measurements, my general shape (e.g. when it asks whether your hips are slimmer, average or wider), & my age.

I think the TrueFit sizes (that particular company name anyway) has a sign-up option, where the results become more accurate the more information you give (it asks you to give similar sizes for multiple types of garments (dresses, trousers, tops etc) then averages them out).
Even if you're entering multiple garments though, maybe giving numerical sizes (instead of letter ones) would make it more accurate still?

Agree with @Angie that garment measurements are the way to go though - hope companies are taking note of this!

For me, True Fit can be helpful, but I don't give my exact age. True Fit suggests one size if I put 68 (my actual age). When I changed the age to 42, True Fit offered another size. What is that about?
I prefer the measurements of the item. Boden and Everlane do this.

Totally agree.whatever brand you say fits you in a size ‘x’ for comparison it then just says you are that size and ignores your measurements.

Probably this is not a newsflash to most people, but that size- finder thing is just a pretense, according to how it works for me.

If I put in my “ stats”, then pick a brand and some size ( e.g., XS- L ) , it just regurgitates the letter size. No matter what brand or size I put in , it does that. ‘ cause I checked.

Maybe it does differently when you input letter size for an item that comes in numbered sizes, or vice versa, so could be intended more for size conversations.

Anyway, so far I’ve found it pretty useless, if not just misleading.
