LaPed, thanks for the brand suggestion! I’m sure you’re right about the leanings of ethically-produced undies. I think that’s a hangover from the 70s.

My impression is that most companies striving for sustainable/ethical production lean more toward true basics rather than lingerie. Lots of simple bralette/brief styles in cotton or bamboo jersey. Kind of Hanna Andersson for grownups. Arq, Pact, TomboyX, Brook There, Groceries Apparel, and a lot of others fall into this category.

You might like the offerings from Only Hearts, Cosabella, and Hanky Panky. I haven't looked too deeply into their practices, but it seems all of them are careful about sourcing and production. Pretty sure Cosabella manufactures in Italy.

Elpgal, “basic no fuss” sounds like the opposite of these—though I won’t keep anything that’s fussy to wear. Once I have it on, I need to like the look and then be able to forget it’s there. Fancy, fun, forgettable (to the wearer going about her life) and friendly to the future are what I’m looking for.

I don’t remember the details, but a few weeks back, someone posted a link to an incredibly detailed review of many brands of simple, sustainably produced undies. I’m pretty sure Jessikams and LaPed were involved in that thread. Wish I could tell you more, because I think you’d be interested, but that’s all I can remember.

Pact is the only one I have tried - they are your basic no fuss undies. Their return policy for first-timers is generous. Whole Foods stocks their multipack undies, some tanks, and leggings.

FashIntern, yes. Of course I will. I know about quite a few sustainably and ethically produced yoga and workout wear brands, but less so about undies and lingerie. They will pop up, though. Eventually.

Laura, looking forward to hearing what you think of them, once you’ve tried that brand.

Minaminu, thank you! That site seemed like such a good resource! On my way to check out simplybe.

Sloper, I like that they’re size-inclusive in several ways. Lots of manufacturers seem to assume that if you’re above a certain bandwidth, you can’t possibly need a smaller cup size.

Nikki, I agree—they suggest a couple things not mentioned by posters on a recent thread about what to do with clothing someone no longer wanted.

RL, same bra, different cuts? I must’ve missed that one. High-5 from one concaver to another.

Angie, if you hear more about them or similar brands through your professional channels, I hope you’ll pass it along.

Oh, good find. Interesting that they have at least one bra in different ‘cuts’. I can really only wear a balconette because I have a concave chest.

I’ve been more careful about the sources of my clothing in recent years, looking for items made in ways that reduce pollution and water usage, and don’t involve criss-crossing the globe, by workers who are treated fairly. One exception to this has been lingerie, because it seemed too hard to find. I’m rethinking that now, because I just stumbled across this brand. Their descriptions of policies are brief, but use recognizable standards. Their sizing is inclusive, ranging from 28 to 44 band size and A to K cups.

Have you heard of these, or do you have other sources sustainably-made underwear to recommend? I had been planning to shop the Figleaves site, but they’ve closed down :/
