Great thread! The care bear theme makes me smile!

I’m kind of in stylefans camp with autumn leaves, but with less green maybe and also some stormy seas thrown in!

Style Fan,
That's a beautiful palette. Do you wear mustard? I find it surprisingly versatile. Also it has been nice having olive green so popular the last 12 months, it's been fun experimenting with it.

I have also loved this thread - I have read it twice but not come up with anything for myself. The photos shown are magnificent - thanks especially Janet for yours. Care Bears is fun Jussie - I do remember them but my sisters were more into them than myself. I was more of a Wombles kid!!

I have a pretty eclectic palette - lots of

Black
Denim Blue
Off white and cream
Navy/Ink Blue

Arizona garden?
I wear mostly mid-to-dark neutrals (black, navy, olive, camel, grey, cognac, denim). However, when I wear color it tends to be fairly vibrant (orange, orange-red, cobalt, turqouise, purple, green/gold). The colors remind me of our vibrant AZ sunsets, the ocotillo and barrel cactus blooms, and the azurite and malachite that sometimes colors rocks from the copper mines.

A lot of thoughtful answers here - I’ve got to say that there’s some amazing inspiration photos here! Janet, cindysmith, la ped - super. And Tokyo night is so fun for Katerina!

I’ll have to think a bit on my color palette ... it seems a bit of an unconscious favoring of certain color combinations...I’ve seen a photo of smooth river stones with the blue/green of the water running over them, and dark red leaves floating in the water. Browns, grays, blue/green...accents of burgundy and rust.

cindysmith: I am intrigued by your palette and your dystopian sensibilities. I love the creativity and unconventionality of it.
Joy: explosion at the Crayola factory is brilliant, why not?
Janet: Those colours are so beautiful, and your work looks incredible. It's interesting how you gravitate to the same palette with your clothing. Maybe theres some kind of vibration there, on an energetic level, at play? If you believe in such things...Also I wonder, do you play with adding the rust colour into your outfits the way it is often present in your photos? It contrasts so magically with those greens and blues....

Katerina: I'm glad you like the Tokyo Night pic. It really does remind me of your look!
La Ped: Very interesting palette inspiration. Also how you are inspired by the way space is broken up. I can see that in the uniglo garment examples you posted earlier. It's so much about the PLACEMENT of the colours and blacks for you. For me I think it's more about how particular colours vibrate next to each other. I am trying to get more cognisant of textures and placement too, but I think with time that will develop further.

Thought a lot about this last night. The colours and combinations I'm drawn to can be found in landscape paintings. Doesn't even matter which school or era -- Flemish, Hudson Valley, you name it -- colours that evoke the natural world but not what we typically think of as earth tones. I like the drama, the attention to contrast, and the question of when and how to break up open spaces.

Janet -- the pieces you show are gorgeous!

I'm still laughing at "Care Bears" as a color palette. But it fits, and the soft colors are really nice on you.

Mine is more like Diana's, but with a bit more light mixed in. The colors move into lighter, brighter territory with the fall and summer seasons, but tend to stay on the cooler end of the color spectrum:

Lots of black, some white and some grey
Lots of teal, cobalt, shades of blue and green in light to dark tones
A healthy dose of burgundy/wine
Accents of rust and occasional orange or coral

My eye even tends to gravitate towards those color schemes in my artwork...

My palette is dirt. Blacks, browns, tans, greys, dusty pink/blush tones. Which is fairly perfect for my geographical area. We have mud called black gumbo where I work, there's clay that looks like melted chocolate here where I live, the red clay is topped off by something called sandy loam, the dust at my work is literally grey, and the dusty pinks look like household dust.

I do have some olive and blue tones mixed in as well. Which makes this random picture of a rusty car in the middle of a desert in British Columbia fairly perfect to sum up my color palette. It also resonates with my dystopian sensibilities ;-)

I do have a few burgundy pieces mixed in, which speaks of the rust in this picture.

For my workout hear, I've actually been drawn to pops of obnoxious color. Bright turquoise, acid yellow, screaming pinks. I'm struggling to begin an exercise regimen & lose weight, and I felt that the bright colors were energetic, so I'm hoping they help. I did allow myself one pair of grey leggings with olive accents just because I apparently can't stop myself from trying to look like this old car in a desert LOL

I think care bears is a great color palette: happy, bright, soothing. I like that you've named your color palette after them.

What a great palette, Jussie! Fun!
Thank you for starting this thread.
I actually cannot describe my palette or find a moniker. I was thinking and thinking and no, cannot. I wear very many colours and as I normally don’t vary my silhouette, I crave colour variation. What I need in my outfits to be happy is high contrast, drama. So for me, it lies in the combinations. There are some colours, which are my favorites, my happy colours:
Ice pink
Hot pink
Black
White
Cobalt
Darker emerald
Charcoal
True red
Citron
Dark violet
Basically strong bright colours.
Would love to have a colour moniker. Will work on it

Bonnie, Dana, Julian, rachylou, Angie, staysfit, torontogirl, Krishnidoux, la Ped, Sarah L, mainelady:
Wow some fab palettes-American flag, nebula, tequila sunrise, Minnie Mouse, Winter Court, nature’s nuetrals, Night Circus, a John Marin painting inspired palette, catholic school (lol). Fascinating. I really like the sound of all of these but Nebula fascinates me, jewel tones on a dark background is always glamorous.
Also torontogirl, I guess schools choose that palette for their uniform because it WORKS!
La Ped your examples are beyond cool.... they’re ultra cool....
Thanks everyone for the ideas.

I copied an idea from another website I visit, The Vivianne Files, and found a painting that I loved. I try to stay true to the color scheme but lately some olive has been creeping in. The painting is named The Black Sun and was done by John Marin in 1929 and depicts his vision of New York City.

My palette is substantially preppy American Flag or as my husband calls it British Airways flight attendant. I have A LOT of red, white and blue. I accent with turquoise, orange, and camel. but the bulk is red, white, blue or a combination of those colors (plaids and patterns). I recently banished black from my wardrobe. It's not a happy (or flattering) color for me so I shipped it all to a girlfriend.
I have been trying to get that marimekko top from uniqlo since it came out!

I love the Dresden books, Sara L!

"Urban Fantasy" might actually be a good description of my color palette, as I read a lot of that kind of book, and the covers almost inevitably look a lot like my wardrobe. This "Others" series by Anne Bishop would fit right into my closet.

That's a fun idea Jussie. I can't particularly think of one right now: faves are cobalt, orange, red, black, teal, turquoise, purple, pink, olive, silver-green... plus black, white and grey. The old Carole Jackson "Colour Me Beautiful" "Spring" palette. If anyone can think of a book or series to fit would be great!

Sara L. YES! I love your palette description as Winter Court!

I'm loving all these creative palette names -- much easier way to think about how colors fit. I recently changed my hair back to blonde after nearly 20 years, so I'm rediscovering my preferred colors.

Ha! This is so great. And you look fantastic in Care Bears. This is my project for the day: naming my red/black/white summer palette. I love this combo. I think it’s punk, haha; I’m an imaginary punk.
