I hear you April! So many cute sheer and/or eyelet tops in summer that require an underlayer. I find it especially ironic re: linen tees. They sound so cool and comfortable. But then they’re see-through!
This is why I picked up the Airism tanks that promise breathability, wicking etc for summer. They are a bit long on me, but very thin, so I’m hoping they don’t create lines under my pants. I wore one (flipped from front to back) with Thigh Society slipshorts under a midi wrap dress yesterday, and while it’s not hot here yet I have high hopes for the comfort factor this summer... it felt very breezy, more comfortable than a dress alone for me.

Jules, I have exactly the same problems with camis.

Plus, how about the way the ones that are long enough to cover skin at the waist create that unappealing "fake panty line" in the rear?

Plus, how about the fact that approximately 99% of summer tops require a cami, in weather when the last thing anyone wants is to layer?

Don't get me started. Oh, too late...

LIGHT BULB MOMENT, ladies!
I was looking at my Uniqlo Airism tank thinking about the suggestions to shorten the straps, and concluding that no, the front is just too low cut. I mean, look at how much higher the back is...
And bingo. Just turn the tank around back to front, like I have with some dressed and tops.
It works. I have the coverage I want so I can lean forward, type this on my phone etc and not worry. Plus my aging, sun sensitive skin is covered.

I came back to say that I've had success in the past with these tanks from anthro, and I love these tanks from yummie, but they do have compression and I didn't get the feeling that you were looking for that

I've tried the target tanks, and generally find them lower than i'd really like, if I had any sewing skills, i'd shorted the straps, but I have zero skill.

I love these camis from Target. The scoop neck provides a lot of coverage; the straps are adjustable; and the length is perfect--not too long and not too short. I have a whole draw full of tank tops and camis that I want to toss and just replace with these.

I’m in Canada and, believe it or not, I found the Solutions brand at London Drugs was a good fit for me. They are more of an undergarment, they work really well under see-through blouses and tops. I am short waisted and they do ride up if I don’t tuck them in but I pretty much always tuck them in. They come in black and nude and they are quite stretchy, they give a nice smoothing effect without being constricting.

Thanks for all the suggestions I’m in Canada so I don’t have easy access to all of them myself, but I wanted broad discussion/suggestions for everyone’s benefit.
It’s interesting that I never really considered the straps to be too long. It’s not like a dress or shirt where it’s obvious when the straps need to be taken up... it’s more that the garment fits correctly but is just cut lower than I would prefer, then I have the additional slipping down issue which makes it worse. But I will keep this in mind.
I’m going to try the Walmart ones I posted next, as they have the adjustable straps people have recommended, and are easily available to me.

This company has a good size range, so would probably work fine for you, unless you are tall.

Second Base's demi camis have changed my life. I don't know if they would slip down on you, but I certainly haven't had that problem. ETA _ Obviously, this won't help with your pants problem, but they are good with dresses.

Otherwise, I suggest adjustable straps or altering camis like the one I posted, if the straps are too long. It may be silly, but not if you think about it as the high use item it is...

I have a bunch from Target too - they are the Merona brand which is one of the ones that they replaced with the new named brands but I think the actual item is similar. The other option would be to go for a tank style and take it up at the shoulder seam if it's too long between the shoulder and the armhole. That will bring the neckline up as well.

I wear camis to provide coverage from the sun and not expose cleavage or just excess chest skin (as well as any gaps in between lower rise pants and tops in back). It’s just a matter of not feeling self-concious so I can go about my day. I’m short waisted so wrap tops/dresses and other v necks are often the most flattering, but I still want coverage.
The problem I’m having is that most camis/layering tanks are cut low to begin with, then on me tend to slip down during the day, sometimes below my bra line (38D for reference - so not small, but proportional on my middle aged size 14 body). My latest not-great purchase is the airism tank from Uniqlo.
I am looking for recommendations for items, google search times, reviews. Had anyone tried these ones from Walmart?
